No need to use external tools if you want to import or change only
metadata (not bitstreams). For that you can use Batch importer, see:

2011-02-17 Thread Emilio Lorenzo
Shivraj, you can use, from dspace1.6, the Import Metadata function from
the User Interface (administration menu) or from the console..(line
commnand)
more info in
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Batch+Metadata+Editing+Prototype

Some preparation of the excel file is needed, and you will not be able of
importing bitstremas, only metadata, but the process is quite clean for
mass-import and further mass-editing of metadata

best Luck

Re: [Dspace-tech] Excel to Dspace

2011-02-17 Thread Joseph Rhoads
I've used the tools described by Odu and Emilio (CSV Import scripts, and
Batch Metadata editing respectively). They both work well.

If you have bitstreams to import the CSV import scripts are the best way to
go.

If you have pure metadata, they both work equally as well.

You said you have about 5000 entries in your excel file;

A couple of things to be aware of when using the Batch Metadata Editing
tool:

1) If you are using the gui, you will be limited in the number of
entries you can upload at one time. This is controlled in the dspace.cfg
file

a. The parameter that controls this is bulkedit.gui-item-limit

2) I've had experiences with the command line tool where loading large
collections (12,000 items or so) resulted in an out of memory error from
java. After posting on this forum, I found that a general rule of thumb is
to break the items up into groups of 1000 for importing.

3) Even if you use the gui and increase the bulkedit.gui-item-limit
number, I think you may still run into the above limitation with memory.

This is based on my experiences, your mileage may vary.

2011-02-17 Thread Jason Stirnaman

Palash,
I haven't seen a response to your question, so I'll jump in even though I don't
have firsthand experience.
One option would be to setup a CAS server and then CASify both DSpace (or
Tomcat) and Sharepoint. Implementing a CAS server would also benefit you when
future applications need to use the same single sign-on.
Beware that the SharePoint 2010 authentication differs from MOSS 2007.

[Dspace-tech] browse functionality in community or collection

2011-02-17 Thread Shilpa Allimatti
I am using Dspace 1.6.2 (XMLUI). I recently modified the browse options on
the page to include browsing by Date Created and removed browsing by date
issued. I made the required changes in the dspace.cfg file and re-indexed my
data. Everything works fine for the rest of the pages except the communities
and collections pages. On those few pages when browsing communities and
collections the browsing options revert back to the old browse by issue date
and the link doesn't even work!

Any help on how I can solve this?

We have a very similar setup, but we have the two servers listening on
different ports, we have httpd sitting in front, using the virtual host

On POSIX machines, only one process can listen to a single port.

I have added the following fields to [dspace]/solr/search/conf schema.xml
file
field name = var type = int indexed =true stored =true multiValued
=true omitNorms =true /
field name = dc.format.extent type = int indexed = true stored =
true multiValued = true/
copyField source=dc.format.extent dest=var/

Also I added dc.format.extent to the line
solr.facets.site=dc.contributor.author,dc.subject,dc.date.issued_dt,dc.coverage.spatial,dc.format.extent
in the [dspace]/conf dspace-solr-search.cfg file. On the browser page I got
the following:
xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_dc.format.extent_filter and the
items in that category.

How do I create the labels to represent
xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_dc.format.extent_filter as a
Category such as what is done for Author, Subject and Date Issued .

Any help would be appreciated

Hi, you may be encountering an issue with the Cocoon cache. You can manually
clear it, just be sure Tomcat is off, and then find your XMLUI cache folder--on
RHEL5, it will probably be in
/var/cache/tomcat5/work/Catalina/localhost/xmlui/cache-dir/. Then, delete all
files matching cocoon-ehcache.*

indexed my data. Everything works fine for the rest of the pages except
the communities and collections pages. On those few pages when browsing
communities and collections the browsing options revert back to the old
browse by issue date and the link doesn't even work!

Any help on how I can solve this?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Single Sign On with SharePoint

2011-02-17 Thread Steve Swinsburg
I asked a question about CAS and DSpace a while ago but received no response.
Has anyone implemented DSpace with CAS?

cheers,
Steve

 Palash,
I haven't seen a response to your question, so I'll jump in even though I
 don't have firsthand experience.
One option would be to setup a CAS server and then CASify both DSpace (or
Tomcat) and Sharepoint. Implementing a CAS server would also benefit you when
future applications need to use the same single sign-on.
Beware that the SharePoint 2010 authentication differs from MOSS 2007.

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace solr facets config

2011-02-17 Thread Kim Shepherd
Hi Mckeane,

This is done in Discovery's i18n configuration, a messages.xml file just
like the one you will have edited under the main XMLUI module.

Have a look in
[dspace-src]/dspace-discovery/dspace-discovery-xmlui-api/src/main/resources/aspects/Discovery/i18n/messages.xml
and you'll see the default labels for the _filter types that are configured
with Discovery out of the box.

You can add your own labels here, eg.
xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_dc.format.extent_filter
or
xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_var_filter (if you choose to
configure this as a facet)

You can also merge this file with your existing (non-discovery) XMLUI i18n
configuration so it's a bit easier to manage and overlay.

I'm not entirely sure what the function of your var field is since you're
wanting to use dc.format.extent as the facet in dspace-solr-search.cfg
anyway... you don't really need the copyField in there if you're not using
the destination field for anything.

(I do note that you've given a type of int rather than the dspaceFilter
default, so I assume you're planning something there...)

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Kim

 Hello,
I was reading Mr. Shepherd's blog on
 Dspace-solr-tips+trickshttp://kim-shepherd.blogspot.com/2010/11/discovering-discovery-dspace-solr-tips.html%20.
I have added the following fields to [dspace]/solr/search/conf schema.xml
 file
field name = var type = int indexed =true stored =true multiValued
 =true omitNorms =true /
 field name = dc.format.extent type = int indexed = true stored =
 true multiValued = true/
 copyField source=dc.format.extent dest=var/

Also I added dc.format.extent to the line
 solr.facets.site=dc.contributor.author,dc.subject,dc.date.issued_dt,dc.coverage.spatial,dc.format.extent
in the [dspace]/conf dspace-solr-search.cfg file. On the browser page I got
 the following:
 xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_dc.format.extent_filter and
 the items in that category.

How do I create the labels to represent
 xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_dc.format.extent_filter as a
Category such as what is done for Author, Subject and Date Issued .

 Any help would be appreciated

 Mckeane

I am using Dspace 1.6.2 (XMLUI). I recently modified the browse options
on the page to include browsing by Date Created and removed browsing by
date issued. I made the required changes in the dspace.cfg file and re-
indexed my data. Everything works fine for the rest of the pages except
the communities and collections pages. On those few pages when browsing
communities and collections the browsing options revert back to the old
browse by issue date and the link doesn't even work!

Any help on how I can solve this?
