[Dspace-tech] Mirage and Discovery Webinars (31st of May and 1st of June)

2011-05-23 Thread Bram Luyten
Dear DSpace enthusiasts,

@mire will be organizing two separate webinars on both Mirage and Discovery,
two major features contributed by our company as part of DSpace 1.7.
Participation in these online events is entirely free.

really reach their full potential when properly
customized to your needs. These webinars aim to address your specific
questions and challenges in customizing and using these features. Together
with the developers of these features, you will dive into the code and get a
better view on the architecture and the possibilities.

To make sure these events are as tailored to the audience (you!) as
possible, we invite you to send in questions and topics by the 27th of May.
Although you will be able to interact live with Kevin Van de Velde

to optimally address new and complex questions on the spot. So please do
send your questions in advance.

When you move a community, I think you also need to run:

update communities2item set community_id=47 where item_id in (select
item_id from item where owning_collection=254);

This updates the relationship between which communities an item appears
in.

Because you have not updated this, when you try to remove the community,
the community cannot be deleted because it is still referenced in that
table.

 How did you move the community? I wonder if when you performed the
move
 some of the internal database links might not have been updated - this
 often happens if you move things using a postgres sql query instead of
a
 pre-defined DSpace command. If so, you might need to first delete all
 references to items in the community from the communities2item table.

 Of course, with all database interactions like this, ensure you have a
 full database backup first, and know how to restore it in case you
 delete the wrong data.

2011-05-23 Thread George S Kozak
Magnus:

I usually tell my users that the larger the files the less chance there is of
successfully uploading them in the web user interface. The problem isn't
DSpace but involves the browser timing out.
I have had users upload 1-2GB files sucessfully, but our local guidelines state
that we prefer files that are 50MB or less.If a file is greater than 500MB,
I ask people to give me the files to load using the batch loader.

As for downloading, people downloading (depending on the speed of their
internet providers) could take a long time getting the item downloaded, and
their browser could timeout in the process.

I know that @MIRE had some streaming options for certain files that would
probably help with this.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Recursive Search

2011-05-23 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Ken,

Have you tried out DSpace Discovery in DSpace 1.7.x? Discovery allows
you to perform faceted/filtered ('recursive') searching of DSpace.

Here's the main documentation on Discovery (which is mostly how to
enable it, but also includes an Introduction Video):
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/Discovery

You can also try out Discovery on our DSpace Demo Server at:
http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/

For example, you can try to search for 'test' in the search box. Once
results return, in the lower right, you'll see a list of all matching
authors/subjects/dates which you can use to filter your results. You can
also add your own free-text filter of the results using the form at the
top. I believe this is likely what your user is looking for when he is
requesting a recursive search function.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem with ordering in browsing

2011-05-23 Thread Ladislav Kulhanek
Thanks for responses.

I created class OrderFormatLocale:

 public class OrderFormatLocale extends AbstractTextFilterOFD {
{
filters = new TextFilter[] { new LowerCaseAndTrim(),
   new LocaleOrderingFilter() };
}
}

but sorting was then very queer. For example alphabet starts with B, A
was after D and there was other queer things like this. So I modified
class by removing LocaleOrderingFilter to this form:

public class OrderFormatLocale extends AbstractTextFilterOFD {
{
filters = new TextFilter[] { new LowerCaseAndTrim()};
}
}

Then sorting was correct in browsing ( by title, author and subjects
too) but started to be incorrect in search results. When search
results are sorted by title or author, string with diacritics are
sorted to the end after all letters without diacritics.

 There are letters with diacritic in czech alphabet, for example Č
 (0x010C code in unicode). This letter should be ordered between C
 and D, but in DSpace it is ordered to the same place as C. For
 example we have ordered list as

 Cabanová, Zuzana
 Čabla, Michael
 Cablová, Barbora

 and this list should be

 Cabanová, Zuzana
 Cablová, Barbora
 Čabla, Michael

 And czech alphabet contains letter Ch (it consists from two
 characters). This letter should be ordered between h and i. This
 letter is ordered in DSpace correctly. So it looks like DSpace order
 in accordance with czech alphabet, but ignore diacritics.
 We have DSpace 1.7.1, Manakin, db PostgreSQL 8.4 (database has
 Collation and Ctype set as cs_CZ.UTF-8), and in tomcat connector is
 URIEncoding=UTF-8. Any idea how to solve it? Thanks.

 Hi Hardik Mishra, thank you for your answer.

 What I should do to avoid to restart the 3 DSpace installs at the same
 time? This was the reason to create 3 tomcat's.

 PostgreSQL is one install with 3 databases - ok.
 Maven compiles in a different directory - no problem with 1 install.
 Should I have 3 ant installs?! If I could change the user.home for each
 install maybe was a solution but I didn't find where.

 Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Custom Browse By not always showing

2011-05-23 Thread Hayden Young

I was able to find a solution to my issue.

Anyone else who is experiencing this issue it is a tomcat cache problem.

To resolve, clear tomcat's application cache directory:

E.g.

rm -Rf /var/lib/tomcat6/work/Catalina/localhost/my_web_app/cache-dir

Cheers

[Dspace-tech] Dspace 1.7.1 maven assemble warnings about org.dspace.content.DCValue being deprecated

2011-05-23 Thread Thornton, Susan M. (LARC-B702)[LITES]
Hello,

 I am in the process of upgrading from DSpace 1.5.1 to DSpace 1.7.1. I
successfully upgraded our software to 1.6.0 and now am working on 1.6.0à1.7.1
and am getting multiple “warnings” about org.dspace.content.DCValue being
deprecated during the Maven assemble (“mvn -U clean package”). Is this
something I need to be concerned about? Here’s what we have:

Sun Solaris 10/Unix

Java 1.6.0_07

Maven 2.2.1

Ant 1.7.1

PostgreSQL 8.2

Thanks in advance,

Sue

No, this is normal -- DCValue is in the (long, drawn-out) process of
being replaced by a 'cleaner' solution. It shouldn't affect your build
at all.

Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-general] Enquiry about DOI on DSpace

2011-05-23 Thread Nemiz, Elvi S.
Dear All,

How can I apply webui.resolver (for DOI) in xmlui? I have searched in the
mailing list and found out that webui.resolver if for jspui only. I have
added dc.identifier.doi in our metadata registry and tried display it by
editing item-view.xsl by copying the code from dc.identifier.uri. If DOI is
entered (without the http://dx.doi.org) during submission or item edit, how
can I generate a link that will point to http://dx.doi.org when metadata is
displayed?

Thanks in advance.
