2011-06-20 Thread Webshet, Sisay (ILRI)

Hello everybody,

Iam using dspace 1.7 1 xmlui mirage interface.

Can any body has a hint on how to restrict an item from being downloaded
by the public users.

We are using LDAP authentication and I created a group on dspace.cfg for
the LDAP users group.

I also created a group using admin interface

What will be my next step ?

Thanks

sisay

2011-06-20 Thread Webshet, Sisay (ILRI)
Hello everybody,

Iam using dspace 1.7 1 xmlui mirage interface.

Can any body has a hint on how to restrict an item from being downloaded
by the public users.

We are using LDAP authentication and I created a group LDAPGROUOP on
dspace.cfg for the LDAP users group.

I also created a group using admin interface

So far I did this step but doesn't work. Can anybody assist on this.

To set Bitstream (file) level READ permissions:

1. Log in to DSpace and find the Item for which you want to set
permissions.

2. Click the EDIT button next to the Item handle on the Item page.

3. Click the EDIT button next to Item's Authorizations.

4. Under POLICIES FOR BUNDLE ORIGINAL there is a file name, such as
Bitstream 11257 (MichaelBensonDiebold2007.pdf). Under the file name
there is a box with the Action READ. If the GROUP is Anonymous, then
the 64 Bitstream (file) is public. If you want to change it so only
people with a LDAPGROUOP network login can see the file, click the EDIT
button, choose the Group LDAPGROUOP, and click SAVE.

[Dspace-tech] large video files in dspace

2011-06-20 Thread Tint Hla Hla Htoo
Hello
We are thinking of storing big video files (1G or 2G) in dspace and have a few
questions.
1) Since submission can be done using batch importer at backend, I think
submission is not likely an issue. But anybody ever experience any issue
uploading large files?
2) Can downloading of such big files be a real problem? any recommended server
specs? (user population is not big... only about 100)
3) These videos are for long term preservation. Considering that, is it
advisable to split them?
I'd appreciate if anyone can share the experience of such big files with dspace.

Best regards
Tint

[Dspace-tech] add jquery ui date choose to embargo field

2011-06-20 Thread Shafer, Philip
I have a new installation of dspace 1.7 using XMLUI and a custom theme. I have
set up embargo and added the field to the submission form. I was curious if
there was a way I could add the jquery ui data chooser to that field? For that
matter, how could I add javascript to any of the submission form pages? I'm
not too familiar with XSLT so any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] DOI links in XMLUI?

2011-06-20 Thread Brian Freels-Stendel
Good morning,

Yup. In your theme's xsl file (the originals are at
[dspace-source]\dspace-xmlui\dspace-xmlui-webapp\src\main\webapp\themes\[theme-name],
 and customized versions are at
[dspace-source]\dspace\modules\xmlui\src\main\webapp\themes\[theme-name]),
there should be a template named itemSummaryView-DIM-fields. Putting in
another row is fairly straight-forward, but be careful to renumber the $clause
variable all the way to the end of the template.

We have both DOI and PubMed ID numbers in our records that I would like to

Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace Configuration

2011-06-20 Thread Hardik Mishra

 Hi,

You can reduce item submission step by configuring item-submissions.xml. The
only thing you need to take for future is when you take back up and restore the
instance.

Dspcae handles also provides you permanent URL for your items. Check more on
http://www.handle.net/ for CNRI handles

[Dspace-tech] Item Mapper and DSpace Upgrade/Indexing Problem

2011-06-20 Thread Asmaa Ayman
Hi, I upgraded recently from dspace 1.5.2 to dspace 1.7.1 -- I went through
a 2-phases upgrade, from 1.5.x to 1.6.x and then from 1.6.x to 1.7.x
It worked fine with me but when I tried the item mapper I got the error:

[error details below]
org.dspace.browse.BrowseDAOPostgres @ caught exception:
org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: column bi_2_dis.authority does not

I was searching for the cause of this error when I came through this:
http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net/msg11125.html
so I deleted the tables that start with bi_ and tried generating the browse
and search indexes, yet I get the following error, the tables are created
with the authority column not containing any values. As a result, the search
stopped working. Your help is highly appreciated.

ok, it seems that the SRW module (web interface) works fine until my

I think that the module shouldn't be affected by an external application but
in any case there is an incorrect behavior in my application :)

[Dspace-tech] Question about statistics

2011-06-20 Thread Nemiz, Elvi S.
Dear all,

I'm wondering why I am getting Uganda and Cold lake in top country and city
views in our Dspace statistics while these two places does not appear in our
google analytics page? How can I update our statistics utility so that we
will get accurate country and city views? Thanks in advance and more power.

Re: [Dspace-tech] large video files in dspace

2011-06-20 Thread Tint Hla Hla Htoo
Hi Stuart
Thanks very much for the explanation. Another question (this is an issue with
another repository):
we have some records in our repository with links to video files on our
streaming server. Now, we want to archive those files in dspace. I'm aware that
we can upload additional bitstreams to an existing record from front end. But
how can I do it from backend? Export item and then import again? Or is there
any other way?
Best regards
Tint

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] large video files in dspace

Hi Tint,

We are thinking of storing big video files (1G or 2G) in dspace and have a
 few questions.
 1) Since submission can be done using batch importer at backend, I think
submission is not likely an issue. But anybody ever experience any issue
 uploading large files?

Files that large can get a bit troublesome over http (via the web interface) if
your connection isn't great, but if you are planning on ingesting using the
importer, then all that is doing is just a filesystem copy.

 2) Can downloading of such big files be a real problem? any
recommended server specs? (user population is not big... only about
 100)

Is the intention for 'users' to view the files? If so, would another option be
to make an 'access' copy which is smaller for them to access, while also
storing the large 'preservation' copies?

 3) These videos are for long term preservation. Considering that, is it
 advisable to split them?
I'd appreciate if anyone can share the experience of such big files with
 dspace.

In DSpace, bitstreams are just files on disk. Therefore the only issues you
should have are whatever limitations your filesystem puts on storage. Small
numbers of large files are usually less problematic that large numbers of very
small files.

Thanks,
