[Dspace-tech] How should I define types of items in DSpace?

2011-12-15 Thread Gabriel Dina
Dear all,

We need to create a difference between DSpace items like: Documents, Video
and Images. For each item we need to define different mandatory metadata:

Documents - Title, Publication Date and Author
Video - Title, Size, Date
Image - Title, Date

Could you please indicate the best approach to create this structure of
items and related metadata?

Thanks and Regards,
Gabriel Dina

Re: [Dspace-tech] SEVERE: Exception unloading sessions to persistent storage

2011-12-15 Thread helix84
Thank you for your replies.

I disabled session persistence. Looks like a good idea overall, I
don't need to preserve any state between tomcat restarts anyway.

Regarding number of inodes, I currently have about 6M of them, 3%
utilization, so I don't think that could be a problem.

Thanks for the per-user fd limit tip, I didn't realize there was one.
I raised it from 1024 to 4096 just to make sure.

The number of open fds now, during normal operation is between 200 and 300.

Now I'll only wait and if the problem occurs again, at least I know
what parameters to look at (# of fds, # of free inodes) before I
restart tomcat, which has been an emergency workaround for this issue
since it's a production server, so I only looked at it post mortem.

The link to Cocoon Jira was also useful, they mention the XSLT
document() call might be a problem, leaving unclosed fds. I do use it
2 or 3 times per page load in my custom theme. I wanted to redo it
into an asynchronous Javascript call anyway.

Thanks again.

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.8.0 - problem with XMLUI Mirage theme: page subjects are shown twice?

2011-12-15 Thread Jason Stirnaman

Rob,
It sounds like you might have both the Discovery and Search modules enabled. If
you want to use Discovery (with all the Solr search and faceting goodness) then
you'll need to disable the Search module. See Enabling Discovery in the docs:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Discovery#Discovery-EnablingDiscovery

[Dspace-tech] XMLUI and display the order of the side menu

2011-12-15 Thread Shafer, Philip
I was curious how we could change to order of the items that appear in the
right hand side of the XMLUI interface.

These items are labeled with:

Search
Browse
My Account
Discover

See: http://dspace.rowan.edu

I want to move Discover below the Search options.

Re: [Dspace-tech] XMLUI and display the order of the side menu

2011-12-15 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi Phillip,

It looks like theres no good deterministic, or perhaps just clear way, to
do this. But I would guess that if you edit [dspace]/config/xmlui.xconf and
moved aspect Discovery so that it is on the line about aspect
browseArtifacts, that it should move the Discovery option box about the
browse box.

Search - hardcoded into the theme.
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-xmlui/dspace-xmlui-webapp/src/main/webapp/themes/dri2xhtml/structural.xsl#L598

So the theme dri2xhtml hard codes:
Search
apply-templates
RSS Feeds (if available)

Apply templates is the result of all of processing whatever is in the DRI,
pumped in by the aspects. What you have control of is what order the
aspects are loaded (in xmlui.xconf).

browseArtifacts adds
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/aa047bbc8fc419881a6d105b5f32492e694f54f2/dspace-xmlui/dspace-xmlui-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/app/xmlui/aspect/browseArtifacts/Navigation.java#L114
- browse
- account
- context
- administrative

discovery adds:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/aa047bbc8fc419881a6d105b5f32492e694f54f2/dspace-discovery/dspace-discovery-xmlui-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/app/xmlui/aspect/discovery/Navigation.java#L124
- discovery
- browse
- account
- context
- administrative

Hmm.. so I'm guessing that is just a shot in the dark.
Good luck though...
