Where is it?

 Hello,

 How do I display the checksum of a bitstream in the item record? Patrons
 would like to have a way to compare the checksum on DSpace with the
 checksum generated on their own computer once they download a DSpace

 I run DSpace 1.8.2 with a customized XMLUI Reference theme.

 Thank you.

 would try helix´s approach

 I just realized there's an even simpler way, just access the attribute
 from the template rendering the file list. That template is processing
 METS anyway. It's the same thing like getting the bistream size.

[Dspace-tech] Adding custom code to a DSpace Build

2012-11-09 Thread Terry Brady
I have a question about the best practice to use for building DSpace with
custom code. I do not have much experience with Maven.

I am working with a DSpace 1.7.2 installation. I am building the system
from the release distribution (not the source distribution) using Maven and
Ant.

To date, all of the customizations that I have made have been made to
configuration files and theme files.

I have coded a custom media filter (Java class) that I would like to
incorporate this into my build. I also have an additional jar file that I
would also like to include into my build. What is the best approach to
incorporating each of these items into my Maven build?

I appreciate any advice that you can offer.

If you need more help, let me know. Start by looking at my original
response to Alain.

I recommend against publishing the provenance metadata:
1) It's harder than than simply parsing this XML (you can select the
bitstream checksum just like you're selecting the bistream name)
2) it's not structured
3) provenance data doesn't have to contain checksum
4) you may wish to not publish the other information contained in
provenance and it would be accessible e.g. via METS

Re: [Dspace-tech] Adding custom code to a DSpace Build

2012-11-09 Thread helix84
Hi Brady,

basically, if you can, use the overlays mechanism, which will ease
forward-porting your changes to newer DSpace version.

If you can't, you're making an Addon. This can be a standalone
module/webapp (maven project) or modifications to existing codebase
which you distribute in form of a patch.

Here are some resources you can look at:

[Dspace-tech] Reg: Authorization Policy Customization

2012-11-09 Thread Lohit Valleru
Hello All,

Dspace has a defined a set of Authorization policies , to give users
particular rights like:

Read/Write/Delete an item, Read/Add/Remove a collection/community, Workflow
access rights etc...

However, I want to add few more policies. One of which is:

1. A user group should have access to only: Import Metadata. ( and
anonymous read access by default)

Right now, Import Metadata can only be done as an Administrator, under
Administrator options.

I have tried, looking for that particular core java class file, where the
users policies are accessed by the system.

I wish to know, how does dspace, deal with authorization policies. i.e how
does it decide on particular read/add/delete rights to a user, and where in
the workflow does that happen.

So that i could do the same, for the system to add above policy for a
particular user group.

May i know, if anyone has an idea about how to go through this.

I would be grateful to hear from you.

Thank you

Lohit

[Dspace-tech] batch import

Hi Alain,
do you also need to upload bitstreams? If not, just use Batch metadata
editor from the command line to import the CV at once.
If you also need to upload bitstreams, you could then export thus imported
items as SIP packages, add the bitstream and run ItemUpdater.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Question about altering item-view in XMLUI

2012-11-09 Thread helix84
Hi George,

it's very simple, really. Copy this template over to your custom
theme, replacing this one line:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-xmlui/src/main/webapp/themes/Mirage/lib/xsl/aspect/artifactbrowser/item-view.xsl#L407

with:

xsl:choose
  xsl:when test=current()/@MIMETYPE = 'application/pdf'
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path,
'/images/your_pdf_icon.png')} style=height:
{$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:when
  xsl:when test=current()/@MIMETYPE = 'image/jpeg'
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path,
'/images/your_jpg_icon.png')} style=height:
{$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:when
  xsl:otherwise
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path, '/images/mime.png')}
style=height: {$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:otherwise
/xsl:choose

Fill in your images and add more mimetypes - you get the idea.

Re: [Dspace-tech] debugging import utility

2012-11-09 Thread Daniel Ishimitsu
Hi Francis,

Try using the parent directory like -s /home/kayiwa/etd/ and -m
/home/kayiwa/etd/etd20121106.map

./import -a -e kay...@uic.edu -t -c 123456789/8765 -s /home/kayiwa/etd/ -m
/home/kayiwa/etd/etd20121106.map

   We are attempting to import items in the `Simple Archive Format`

  Hi Francis,

  while I don't know the answer, I'm sure the person who will answer you
  would want to know the DSpace version you're using.

 Good point. I am running 1.6.2

   imported. Is there a way to make the import utility run verbose? Any
   other hints to help in troubleshooting what we could be missing?

  Unfortunately, there's no hint of a verbose flag:

 Thanks again.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Adding custom code to a DSpace Build

2012-11-09 Thread Terry Brady
Thank you. The DSpace Build Cookbook was very helpful.

It was not immediately intuitive that I would need to handle my JAR file
dependencies separately from the custom code. The cookbook pointed me in
the right direction on that issue as well.

 Hi Brady,

 basically, if you can, use the overlays mechanism, which will ease
 forward-porting your changes to newer DSpace version.

 If you can't, you're making an Addon. This can be a standalone
 module/webapp (maven project) or modifications to existing codebase
 which you distribute in form of a patch.

 Here are some resources you can look at:

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] Question about altering item-view in XMLUI

Hi George,

it's very simple, really. Copy this template over to your custom
theme, replacing this one line:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-xmlui/src/main/webapp/themes/Mirage/lib/xsl/aspect/artifactbrowser/item-view.xsl#L407

with:

xsl:choose
  xsl:when test=current()/@MIMETYPE = 'application/pdf'
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path,
'/images/your_pdf_icon.png')} style=height:
{$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:when
  xsl:when test=current()/@MIMETYPE = 'image/jpeg'
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path,
'/images/your_jpg_icon.png')} style=height:
{$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:when
  xsl:otherwise
img alt=Icon src={concat($theme-path, '/images/mime.png')}
style=height: {$thumbnail.maxheight}px;/
  /xsl:otherwise
/xsl:choose

Fill in your images and add more mimetypes - you get the idea.
