[Dspace-tech] Item submission customisation and thumbnail
Hi all, I've emailed about this earlier in Dec 2012. Would be great if there's any experts on this to help. The DSpace repository version we are using is DSpace 1.8.2. I have 2 issues that I require assistance: 1. I would like to check is it possible to amend the upload section to add field to upload thumbnail in item submission form? Currently, we are using Mirage. There is an option to select thumbnail bitstream to upload after the item is submitted to the system(under Context- Edit this item-Item bitstreams -Upload a new bitstream) I would like it to be added into the initial item submission. I can't find the file to edit upload section in item submission form. Also, I'm not able to identify the exact field for the form to post to. 2. Currently we are using the filter-media function to generate the thumbnail of image files(jpeg,png, bmp etc). The image looks rather fuzzy even after I tweak the image size in dspace.cfg. Is there any other files to amend in order to enhance the resolution or clarity of the generated thumbnail? It´s not possible without coding. you must modify (i think) the class UploadStep https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/submit/step/UploadStep.java 2. The low quality of thumbnails has been noticed before by other users in this list I ignore any aproach to enhance it, but other people are giving a try to integration with multivio (http://www.multivio.org) We have tested it and the results looks excellent. [Dspace-tech] virus checker unavailable
This morning in my installation (1.8.2) some one tried to upload a file and got an error because the virus checker was unavailable. The same user tried it again now and it worked well. Why would it have been unavailable? Can it only be used by one user at a time? I have it enabled it so that it runs when users upload files via the UI. I'm wondering if I should tell the user that if this happens again, to just try later because it probably means that it's being used right now. Many thanks! Thanks for the response. My notes are below: djlfldj Hi Michael, in theory (I've never done it, either) what you're doing is correct and exactly what I'd have done. I.e. use only one of the solr instances to store data for both instances. When you get it working you can even manually export the previous data from the orphan solr instance to the shared one. You correctly allowed and tested access to server1 from server2. I'm puzzled a bit, though, as to why you're puzzled it didn't work. The docs (rather ambiguously) say that the server property defines both where the solr client sends statistics as well as where the solr server listens for data. Since server2 does not own the server1 ip address, of course the server2 solr server won't be able to listen at server1:8080. So I'd figured the design of dspace simply wasn't set up for this; I just tried it as a long shot. So you think it might actually work to specify another server's ip address here? That would be great if I can get it to work. As you noted, the original setting (use solr on localhost) is still in effect. Perhaps you accidentally have solr-statistics.server property set in dspace.cfg? Alas, no, it is set in modules/solr-statistics.cfg. However, your comment prompted another thought: what about the modules/discovery.cfg? There's the search.server setting there. As mentioned above, I really didn't expect this to work, since the ip address for server1 is not available on server2, so I didn't really expect any of this to work on server2. Since the dspace docs are written in such a way that they assume you are using a local ip address for this setting, I had assumed that the design of dspace did not allow for this setting to refer to a remote server. Do you have knowledge of the design of dspace beyond the docs? I haven't had a chance to look through the dspace solr java code myself. [Dspace-tech] Restricted Item Setting
I am using Dspace 3.0 jspui with discovery. I want to know what this restricted item setting is for. In my dspace.cfg file I tried to make the values of harvest.includerestricted.oai = true, harvest.includerestricted.rss = true harvest.includerestricted.subscription = true all as false but i cant see any change on my interface settings or any functionality. Can any one explain in detail as the manual doesn't cover much for understanding. Secondly I also want users who are not authenticated on my dspace can only see meta data and attached bitstream of an item but cannot view or download it untill they are properly authenticated. I mean whenever they click the view or open or bitstream name hyperlink they must always direct to login page.
