[Dspace-tech] email errors

2015-05-14 Thread Bill Tantzen
All,

DSpace 4.3, RHEL6

VERY occasionally, I see warnings in the space log thrown by
exceptions in notifyGroupOfTask() and notifyOfReject().

In these cases, the exception's getMessage() is null, so no
explanation is available... Additionally, in every case, the
addressees DO receive notifications 99.9% of the time.

Any ideas? I'm thinking of adding a getStackTrace() to the exception
clause here, maybe that will give me a clue.

Regards,
Bill

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace 5.1 ImageMagick question

2015-04-21 Thread Bill Tantzen
Actually, even though Andrea's fix gets us most of the way there, if an
exception is thrown at some point before the method returns, some files may
still remain in /tmp. Depending on the size of your /tmp and on the size
of your repository this might still pose a problem... I posted a possible
(further) fix for the issue: https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2544

Re: [Dspace-tech] flyway migration error

2015-04-01 Thread Bill Tantzen
Wally,
Here's what I did:

dspace= \d metadatavalue
 Table public.metadatavalue
...
...
...

Foreign-key constraints:
$1 FOREIGN KEY (item_id) REFERENCES item(item_id)
$2 FOREIGN KEY (metadata_field_id) REFERENCES
metadatafieldregistry(metadata_field_id)

If your Foreign-key constraints look like the above, do the following:

dspace= ALTER TABLE metadatavalue DROP CONSTRAINT $1;
ALTER TABLE
dspace= ALTER TABLE metadatavalue ADD CONSTRAINT
metadatavalue_item_id_fkey FOREIGN KEY(item_id) REFERENCES
item(item_id);
ALTER TABLE

Then, try the conversion!
Cheers,
Bill

Re: [Dspace-tech] Error when attempting to shard-solr-index

2015-01-07 Thread Bill Tantzen
My simple solution:

add

   str name=fl
continent,isBot,submitter,statistics_type,previousWorkflowStep,

city,latitude,type,uid,owningItem,scopeType,countryCode,sortBy,id,longitude,

owningComm,owner,scopeId,workflowItemId,ip,query,dns,workflowStep,userAgent,actor,
referrer,rpp,sortOrder,bundleName,time,page,epersonid,owningColl
   /str
(that is, everything EXCEPT _version_)

to the defaults for the /select RequestHandler in statistics' solrconfig.xml

Seems to work! Note: No java source code was harmed in the creation
of this work-around.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Error when attempting to shard-solr-index

2015-01-07 Thread Bill Tantzen
This article on optimistic concurrency:

  http://heliosearch.org/solr/optimistic-concurrency/

explains (I believe) exactly what's going on...

In SolrLogger.java, the .csv files created for insertion into the new
shared indexes are composed using ALL fields -- including _version_.
Any NEW document with a _version_ field will fail on update.

Or am I misunderstanding something?

If this is the case, I think one solution may be to specify a field
list (excluding version) when querying solr by date during the
creation of the filesToUpload List. The other solution would be to
drop the _version_ field from schema.xml (and turn off the update log
in solrconfig.xml), and optimize to drop the field. I'm not sure what
this adds in terms of an insert-only index anyway.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

[Dspace-tech] possible bug in SpiderDetector.java...

2014-12-08 Thread Bill Tantzen
All,

DSpace 4.2, xmlui

After investigating some very low statistics since implementing
version 4.2, I have found that the function isSpider() in
SpiderDetector.java is throwing an error at line 208 because the
variable candidate is null. When the matcher method is called on the
null variable, an error is thrown, the function never returns, and the
request does not get logged.

I added an additional conditional at 208 to test for null:

  if ( null != candidate  candidate.matcher(agent).find() ) {

to prevent the error.

The question of how there is a null pattern in the agents list is
another issue -- I'm not sure how that happens. I'm using the
out-of-the-box agents/example file, and as a matter of fact, the
problem does not present itself on every startup. I have noticed in
dspace.log that agents/example gets loaded 3 times. Is there a
possible synchronization issue with ArrayList.add at line 174?

At any rate, it seems like a good idea to test for a null value since
users will likely add odd items to the agents file at some point.

Comments? I'd love to hear 'em!

Cheers,
Bill

[Dspace-tech] embargo bug? second attempt

2014-09-18 Thread Bill Tantzen
All,
I encountered this issue in DSpace 4.1, and it's still hanging around
in 4.2. Still haven't seen any comments from this note I posted in
April:

All,

In DSpace 4.1 xmlui, in a collection WITHOUT the embargo steps
enabled, I am able to upload a file as usual -- the only input field
being the description. But during the review step, when editing the
just-uploaded file, the embargo options appear on the form. Entering
data in either of these fields does nothing, but they should not be
there in any case, right?

A quick search of jira did not find a similar report. Is this a bug,
or a mis-configuration of some kind? I do have another collection in
which both embargo steps are enabled...

Comments?

SOLVED!!

Aha! Make sure to update solrconfig.xml to the version supplied by
DSpace v4.2. There, the default param lowernames is commented out; I
suspect the default value must be false. I think (although I can't
find any documentation that says so specifically), that lowernames
substitutes underscore for dot transforming search.uniqueid to
search_uniqueid -- thus generating the exception. (The documentation
states as much for the example: Content-Type becomes content_type).

At the very least, configure the ExtractingRequestHandler according to

 Hello,

I am glad to hear that there was a resolvable solution to the issue. I am
curious if you ran your update with the following? ant -Doverwrite=false?
This would have lead to your solr configuration not getting properly
overwritten. The default when not doing this is to overwrite the
 configuration.

 https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-4.2/dspace/src/main/config/build.xml#L365

Executing a build update with overwrite=false means you will need to
manually adjust your build and solr configuration.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Missing items in collection

2014-09-08 Thread Bill Tantzen
Well, I admit I'm not really clear on the big picture, but it looks to
me as if the problem is in SolrServiceImpl.java in writeDocument().
The clause that calls the solr extract handler does not seem to add
any of the record metadata without prepending 'literal.' to it --
specifically search.uniqueid!

If you ignore that section of code -- for instance if you dumbly
substitute the line

  if(falseCollectionUtils.isNotEmpty(streams))

for the original test on line 692, everything proceeds normally.

This is an addition since v4.1, and again, I'm not sure what is
supposed to be accomplished here but it doesn't seem to be working
quite right.

Any comments from the author(s)?

Cheers!

What you'll want to do, is to add a series of matches, each on a different

I think your ultimate configs will look like:

 theme name=Theme1 regex=^$|community-list path=Theme1/

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace 4.1 slow to submit/edit/delet item

2014-07-09 Thread Bill Tantzen
I have noticed similar response issues, and in fact I posed a similar
question some time ago. The question I had refers to the code in
IndexEventConsumer.java at line 170 and 184. The commit parameter in
the calls to indexContent() here (and only here) is set to true.
Since solrconfig.xml has autocommit set to true, why do we bother to
commit immediately (this can be slow)? I have found that changing
this parameter to false drastically increases the speed of updates and
deletes.

I'd like to hear from any developers who had a hand in this particular
section of code...

Cheers!

[Dspace-tech] item strengh solr query

I am guessing this query determines the item strengths for the sub
communities, but I don't understand why it is repeated (and repeated
so many times).

We have 1 top level community, 132 sub communities, and 631
collections. At the top level, this query is called 232 times, and
the page load is slow compared to others. Can anybody explain how
this query is used, and why it is called so many times?

Thanks much,

[Dspace-tech] What authorizations do I have for items I own?

2014-06-11 Thread Bill Tantzen
I'm using DSpace 4.1/xmlui.

Like the subject line says, I'm wondering what I can do with my own
items once they are submitted.

Let's say I'm a submitter to a given collection along with some number
of other e-people. As such, it would seem that I cannot edit my own
record's metadata, nor can I see my own embargoed items.

Can authorizations be set a a level more granular than the community
level? Can one *generally* allow users to edit their own material
without being a collection admin? Or to view their own embargoed
items?

Thanks for making this more clear!

[Dspace-tech] Embargo bug?

2014-04-11 Thread Bill Tantzen

I do have another collection in
which both embargo steps are enabled...

call to a database query, it is whta you hope if you are using DISCOVERY and
SOLRDao, but i'm wondering if thumbnails bundles are being written to the
 SOLR index.

[Dspace-tech] group names, xmlui vs jspui

2014-04-01 Thread Bill Tantzen
DSpace 4.1

Hi all!

In JSPUI, I am able to change the assigned group names
(COLLECTION_101_ADMIN) to something more human friendly. However,
in XMLUI, in spite of the fact that there is a text field labeled
Change group name, the field cannot be edited.

Is something mis-configured, or am I misunderstanding something, or is
this a bug?

Thanks!

[Dspace-tech] Creative Commons license link broken?

2014-03-25 Thread Bill Tantzen
Apologies, just giving a bump to a question I asked last week... So
far, no solution:

===

DSpace 4.1, XMLUI

I have enabled the creative commons step for a collection. Everything
seems to be working fine on submission. But when I view the full
record, in the Files in this item section and in the sub-section
entitled The following license files are associated with this item,
the Creative Commons link refers to the page it is on instead of the
license bitstream. ( e.g. /handle/11299/12345?show=full ).

Is this a mis-configuration on my part, or bug?

Thanks for any hints!

 Hi all,

I was hoping some one can give some insight to a problem we are
having. We are running DSpace 1.8 and every couple of weeks we end up
having to reboot the Tomcat because it crashes due to a Java heap
space error. We have been trying to correct it since the beginning of
the year by incrementally increasing the memory assigned to Java. By
now we are at half the server memory, roughly 2 GB, assigned to Java
and while it is taking longer we still are having to reboot due to
heap space errors. We are not sure what the issue is and we are at
loss as to how to fix it because throwing more memory at it is not
fixing the problem. I would welcome any thoughts, suggestions, or
advice on how to fix this. Thanks for your time and insights.

[Dspace-tech] Submission step question

2014-03-19 Thread Bill Tantzen
DSpace 4.1, XMLUI

Is it possible to make a submission step (for example the access and
upload with embargo steps) available only to a specific role or
eperson? For instance, is it possible for a collection admin to add
an item embargo during a workflow step, while hiding those fields from
a submitter?

From the docs, I don't see a way to do it, but I'd like some
verification -- or a solution if there is one!

[Dspace-tech] solr optimization?

2014-03-12 Thread Bill Tantzen
DSpace 4.1, XMLUI

Looking at solr's schema.xml, I am wondering why the fields
fulltext and fulltext_hl are stored as well as indexed? Are these
fields ever actually requested from solr by the dspace application?

If not, it seems that it would be a significant optimization to simply
index them and not store them... Otherwise, out of curiosity, I'm
wondering where the stored value of these two fields are used by
dspace.

Thoughts?

[Dspace-tech] embargo at collection level

Is it possible to enable embargo on per collection level? That is,

Or can embargo only be applied on a site-wide basis?

From the docs, it looks as if the latter is true, but I would like to verify

Re: [Dspace-tech] missing messages.xml and upload/delete problems

2014-03-05 Thread Bill Tantzen
Following up with more info on the problem I described on Monday last...

On closer inspection of the logs, I see the errors I described occur
somewhat prior to my delete request and therefore seem to have nothing
to do with whatever my problem is. I am attaching the tail of my
httpd, dspace, solr, and cocoon logs that will hopefully provide some
better info.

This is a plain vanilla installation of DSpace 4.1 with only minor
changes to build.properties and dspace.cfg necessary to connect to the
database, etc.

The problem is that deletes take an excruciating amount of time -- 22
minutes in the example I am attaching. The hardware/software details
are;

RedHat Linux 6; 4 cpu, 16GB
tomcat 7.0.50
java 7 (1.7.0.45)
maven 3.1.1
ant 1.9.2
postgresql 9.2

Browser doesn't seem to matter -- I have used Chrome, Firefox, and
Safari. No errors on the browser end.

As you will see be checking the log files I have attached, NOTHING
seems to be happening between the time I click 'delete' and when the
community list reappears. During this time, my cpu usage is high, but
memory usage is under 20%.

Immediately prior to doing the delete, I optimized the solr search index.

This is really weird, and I hope somebody will have time to take a
look at the logs I have attached and point me in the right direction!
More info available on demand, if needed of course.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

[Dspace-tech] Very slow delete (WAS: missing messages.xml and upload/delete problems)

2014-03-05 Thread Bill Tantzen
Re: my previous posts about extremely slow delete response time. I
think I have located the source of the slow down, in
IndexEventConsumer.java, line 184:

indexer.unIndexContent(ctx, hdl, true);

Since autocommit is enabled in solrconfig.xml, is there any reason to
set the commit parameter to true in this case? Indeed, setting it to
false makes the response time instantaneous, as expected.

Can someone explain why commit is true here? (nowhere else is
unIndexContent() in this way...)

Cheers!

[Dspace-tech] missing messages.xml and upload/delete problems

2014-03-03 Thread Bill Tantzen
I'm having problems with upload and delete in my DSpace 4.0
installation. Both steps seem to complete successfully, that is,
items are added and deleted, but in both cases the pages hang at the
final step. I'm not sure if this is the source of the problem, but as
I begin my debugging, I am seeing many, many of the following type of
error in my cocoon log:

etc

Indeed, those files are NOT there. In xmlui, I do have

./WEB-INF/classes/aspects/SwordClient/i18n/messages.xml
./WEB-INF/classes/aspects/XMLWorkflow/i18n/messages.xml

messages_bg.xml messages_de.xml messages_gl.xml messages_pt_BR.xml
messages_ca_ES.xml messages_el.xml messages_it.xml messages_ru.xml
messages_ca.xml messages_es.xml messages_ja.xml messages_tr.xml
messages_cs.xml messages_et.xml messages_pl.xml messages.xml

and in xmlui/aspects I have
aspects.xmap json-solr.xmap protodocument.xml

Are these errors related to the pages hanging? Unrelated, but
important anyway? Or can I just ignore them and keep looking?

Ideas and suggestions welcome!!

Re: [Dspace-tech] Filter media Discovery search problem

2014-02-27 Thread Bill Tantzen
For what it's worth, I have noticed this same behavior with a similar
installation. You are referring to the index files created in
{$dspace}/search, correct?

Besides wasting some disk space and cpu cycles during filter-media, I think
this is harmless (so far as I can tell).

 Hi everybody

I've configured JSPUI Discovery for 3.2 version and everything looks fine.
My problem is that filter-media command seems to update both indexes

Looking at the documentation I've dropped search from
 event.disptacher.default.consumers, currently it has

 event.dispatcher.default.consumers = versioning, browse, discovery,
 eperson, harvester

and also I have commented the plugin Searh Request processor in favor of
Discovery one, the items are correctly updated in SolR but the problem
appears only using filter-media as far as I can see.

 Any idea?

[Dspace-tech] configuring browse indexes

In dspace 4.0 (or any version in general), I have the choice for :metadata:

  webui.browse.index.3 = title:metadata:dc.title:title:full

In the default dspace.cfg, the example is

  webui.browse.index.3 = title:item:title

I am guessing that with metadata I'm pulling the data from dc.title
field...What about item? Where does that data come from?

Naturally, I'm asking because the latter example works, and the former does
not, but I'm having a hard time understanding why.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

[Dspace-tech] anonymous subscriptions

2014-01-22 Thread Bill Tantzen
In DSpace 3.2, is it possible for anonymous users to subscribe to
collections?

From the docs, it does not appear so, but I just want to verify this... I
have seen DSpace/DS-1868, but that seems to be for v4.0 only

If not, has this ever been possible in previous versions?

 Hi Bill,

Anonymous users can subscribe via an RSS feed (as all
Collections/Communities have their own public RSS feeds).

However, anonymous users cannot subscribe for email notifications. You
must first register with DSpace / create an account (which also verifies
your email address) in order to subscribe for email updates. This is the
way it has always been (as far as I can recall).

To allow anonymous users to subscribe to email updates is actually
potentially problematic (unless you first have a step which first verifies
their email address). We obviously would not want an anonymous user signing
others up for notifications, or going in and signing up a mailing list for
notifications (essentially spamming a list). There would need to be some
form of validation that the person signing up for email notifications
*owns* that email address. So, that's why it has been limited to persons
who have a registered DSpace account.

I'll add similar comments to DS-1868 shortly, as I'm not sure it's
 suggested fix is accurate either:

[Dspace-tech] browse by date off by one?

2014-01-07 Thread Bill Tantzen
I'm trying to get my head around whether or not this is a configuration
issue or something else. In dspace 3.2 (using solr), when I browse a
collection by date, it is in descending order by default (by client
request).

If the user chooses to jump to a particular start date, say 2004, a solr
query is issued that looks something like this:

response
responseHeader
status0/status
QTime1/QTime
lst name=params
str name=qbi_sort_1_sort: [2004 TO *]/str
arr name=fq
strNOT(withdrawn:true)/str
strlocation.comm:12/str
strNOT(withdrawn:true)/str
strsearch.resourcetype:2/str
strread:(g0)/str
/arr
str name=start0/str
str name=rows0/str
str name=wtjavabin/str
str name=version2/str
/lst
/responseHeader
result name=response numFound=271 start=0/
/response

Which tells me that there are 271 records with bi_sort_1_sort = 2004

So far, so good. The second step issues the following query, using the
numFound attribute of the 1st query:

responseHeader
status0/status
QTime2/QTime
lst name=params
str name=flbi_sort_1_sort/str
str name=q*:*/str
arr name=fq
strNOT(withdrawn:true)/str
strlocation.comm:12/str
strNOT(withdrawn:true)/str
strsearch.resourcetype:2/str
strread:(g0)/str
/arr
str name=start271/str
str name=rows20/str
str name=sortbi_sort_1_sort desc/str
str name=wtjavabin/str
str name=version2/str
/lst
/responseHeader

which says about the same thing, except to start at the 272nd record which
effectively eats up those items with a
bi_sort_1_sort of 2004 and up and starts displaying records beginning with
2003-12-31 and lower; clearly not what the user expects.

When the sort order is reversed, everything works fine.

Is this a bug, or am I misunderstanding or mis-configuring something?

Thanks for any pointers!

[Dspace-tech] config question

2013-12-18 Thread Bill Tantzen
Hi all!

Can anyone explain how the option

webui.itemlist.browse.browse name.columns

is supposed to work? For example, I tried the following:

webui.itemlist.browse.dc.title.columns = dc.date.issued(date), dc.title,
dc.con\tributor.*

and what I expected to see was these three columns when browsing titles.
However, I continue to see simply the title.

Am I doing something wrong, or am I misunderstanding what this option is
supposed to do?

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] config question

2013-12-18 Thread Bill Tantzen
Yes, sorry, this is jspui. The backslash was kindly added by my email
client!

Discovery *is* enabled, and my hunch (like yours) is that this was meant
for the old style browse. I am hoping somebody can confirm that.

Ultimately, my goal is to have a similar display with

/browse?type=title

as I have with

/browse?type=dateissued

In the latter case, the columns are those specified by
webui.itemlist.columns. In the former, I have just title...

Cheers!

 Hi Bill,

I haven't used this myself, so I don't have a definitive answer for
you, but here are a few quick sanity checks:

 * This is a JSPUI-only options. Are you using JSPUI? (see etiquette link
 below)
 * You have a backslash in con\tributor - I assume this is a typo in
 email, not in your configuration.
 * Do you have Discovery enabled? The option might have been only for
old browse, but I'm not sure.

Re: [Dspace-tech] dspace and tomcat 7.0.47

2013-12-09 Thread Bill Tantzen
Tentatively, it looks as if upgrading to maven 3.3.1 is working... I was
hesitant to *downgrade* to ant 1.8.4, but a simple maven upgrade may have
done the trick. I did have to run mvn clean first, and followed it up with
mvn package and ant update.

I don't want to declare victory just yet, because as I said, the problem is
intermittent. But so far so good.

Thanks for all the help!

[Dspace-tech] dspace and tomcat 7.0.47

2013-12-06 Thread Bill Tantzen
I have recently updated my tomcat from v7.0.42 to 7.0.47. I am
encountering the following error when starting tomcat/dspace. Dropping
back to 7.0.42 fixes the problem... I'm wondering if anybody else has
tried this new tomcat and experienced this, and if there is a workaround so
that I can stay current. I have tried increasing the Xss setting like the
log suggests -- to ridiculous amounts -- and this does not help.

NOT starting the oai servlet does the trick, but of course, I need that!

Re: [Dspace-tech] shibboleth problem

2013-10-15 Thread Bill Tantzen
Here's a little more info and a workaround to my shib question from
yesterday.

From the the apache logs, I see that if I try to access a non-public url
via http (while not logged in) such as /submit, I am redirected like so:

GET
/Shibboleth.sso/Login;jsessionid=F5680238949101C8B9537F54538D8CF2?target=https%3A%2F%2Fmydspace.edu%2F%2Fshibboleth-login

from there,

GET /submit

and from there I continue to loop.

If I simply to to /Shibboleth.sso/Login, I am redirected successfully to
the dspace home page (via https), or if I specify a target, such as
/Shibboleth.sso/Login?target=https%3A%2F%2Fmydspace.edu%2F%2Fsubmit this
works as well.

I guess my question is, in the first example, where does the target
'shibboleth-login' come from? Is this the desired behavior? I have

lazysession.secure = true

and while this seems to work with /Shibboleth.sso/Login, it does not seem
to handle other non-public urls.

Any thoughts?
Bill

as the protocol, everything is fine. The problem seems to be when I
attempt a restricted url with simple http:

 http://mydspace.com/submit/

Is this a problem with my IDP then? Is there any workaround via .cfg
 files?

 Thanks,

upon successful authentication, instead of going to the originally
requested url, I am placed in a seemingly endless loop of being redirected
to //shibboleth-login (yes, there are two slashes), from there to my IDP,
and back to //shibboleth-login. Over and over.

The dspace log indicates a successful authentication, the correct
eperson_id is found, but I never do land on a page.

With lazy sessions set, I should never need to go to /shibboleth-login,
 correct?

Again, any suggestions will be deeply appreciated!

Re: [Dspace-tech] media filter question

2013-09-25 Thread Bill Tantzen
Solved.

In v3.2, bitstreamformatregistry.short_description for mimetype
application/pdf is 'Adobe PDF'. However, in my installation (for some long
lost reason) the short_description is simply 'PDF'.

Therefore in MediaFilterManager.java::filterBitstream(), the test at line
556:

  if (fmts.contains(myBitstream.getFormat().getShortDescription()))

never returns true, so no pdf files are ever processed.

As a workaround, in dspace.cfg, I changed

  filter.org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFFilter.inputFormats = Adobe PDF

to filter.org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFFilter.inputFormats = Adobe PDF, PDF

and voila! Everything works. I could just have easily updated
bitstreamformatregistry, but I was wary of breaking something else.

Cheers!
Bill

The output from the command line is short. Normally, I would expect to
see a log of each bitstream examined beginning with 'FILTERED' or
'SKIPPED'. Instead I see only a few errors for .doc files (Invalid Format)
followed by a couple of SKIPPED entries for bitstreams with an existing

All the .pdf files are in the ORIGINAL bundle. For instance:

This database has been recently updated from v1.42 to v3, and I suspect
the problem is somewhere in the db rather than a bug in the code, but

No, it's not SQL. It's a recursive call down the hierarchy, as you can
see in this method and the few following it: [1]

However your WHERE suggestion got me thinking which bitstreams are

[Dspace-tech] media filter question

2013-09-18 Thread Bill Tantzen
I have recently upgraded from v1.4 to v3.2. Previously, we have not done
full text indexing, but I would like to do so now.

On running
  ./dspace filter-media

5 items are checked, and the command returns without an error (there are
over 20,000 items in the repository, most of them .pdf files).

I tried
  ./dspace filter-media --force

and the same 5 items are checked, and once again the command returns
without an error.

Am I missing a configuration detail?

Thanks for any tips!

[Dspace-tech] dspace 1.4 - 3.2 upgrade

2013-08-06 Thread Bill Tantzen
Like the subject line says, this is a big upgrade. My strategy is to start
with a fresh, plain vanilla installation of v3.2.

Offline, I have an export of my existing v1.4 database. I will apply the
appropriate sequence of updates to this db, and then import it into my new
v3.2 installation.

Does that seem like a reasonable approach?

Thanks for any/all advice!

[Dspace-tech] invalid bitstream/object after upgrade

2013-08-01 Thread Bill Tantzen
I am beginning the painful process of upgrading from v1.41 to 3.2, and
stumbling right out of the gate.

Here's my problem -- or the symptom anyway. I downloaded v1.42, ran ant
upgrade, installed the war files and restarted tomcat. Everything (search,
browse, view records) works fine until I attempt to view a bitstream at
which point I see the following error:

The identifier 57528/1/1965-165.pdf does not correspond to a valid
Bitstream in DSpace.

In addition, when viewing a collection, I can produce a very similar error
by searching or browsing within:

The identifier 151226/simple-search does not correspond to a valid Object
in DSpace.
The identifier 54870/browse-author does not correspond to a valid Object
in DSpace.

These are arbitrary handles, the problem exists for all of them. Needless
to say, it worked fine before.

Here's what I've attempted to solve the error. I exported the database,
ran ant fresh_install, and imported the db. The results are exactly the
same. So what I have now is an absolutely plain vanilla 1.42 dspace with
the most minimal changes to dspace.cfg with the errors above.

My postgres is v8.4, and the connector is v9.x

Any ideas/suggestions?

Bill
