[Dspace-tech] Google sitemap issue

2010-09-20 Thread Poulter, Dale
Good morning,

I am attempting to determine how Google is handing items being harvested.
Currently it seems to be indexing the individual items fine but the collection
and community pages are not being indexed. I have confirmed that the urls are
in the sitemaps though. Any suggestion as to what is occurring? Thanks for
your assistance.

Hi Dale,

The community/collection page is being indexed, however, its just not
scoring high according to Google's algorithms.

I'm not an SEO expert, but I don't think that Google cares too much about
the hierarchy of your site, mostly just the content. Which is why your
content (PDF's) score very well.

If you still want to boost the rank of your community page, i.e. emphasize,
perhaps you can have someone write an article with links about it from your
catalog / CMS / university-newspaper / departments / blogs. As well as
adding some additional content to the community homepage, such as why it is
interesting, as opposed to a bunch of buzzwords.
