Re: [Dspace-tech] Collection Visualisation tool ?

2013-10-17 Thread Bram Luyten
Hi Patrick,

I don't think I've ever seen it in DSpace. But the wheel is the Sunburst
visualization part of the open source InfoVis toolkit:
http://philogb.github.io/jit/demos.html

Integrating this into DSpace should definitely be possible.

cheers,

Bram

 Hi all,

We've seen the subject / collection visualisation tool which is
available via DigitalCommons - the wheel which appears on the
 following site:

 http://www.repository.law.indiana.edu/

We were wondering whether anything like this is available for DSpace 3.X
which could be included on our landing / welcome page.

 Thanks in Advance.

 Regards,

 Patrick Rynhart

Thanks for this. Actually, we're really just looking for some
(preferably ready-made) DSpace eye-candy for our landing page. We
found the above, and thought it looked nice ;-) What options, if any,
are available ? We're intending to deploy DSpace v3.2.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Collection Visualisation tool ?

2013-10-17 Thread Bram Luyten
Hi Patrick,

when it comes to out of the box eye candy options, here are a few pointers:

*Thumbnail listings vs Abstract snippet listing*

In the Mirage theme for XMLUI, there is a configuration setting that
enables you to choose between item listings with thumbnails, or text based
listings that will give you the snippet of an abstract.
More info:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Mirage+Configuration+and+Customization

*Tag Cloud*
*
*
Although it is not committed to the core yet, there is a pending Tag Cloud
feature for JSPUI.
Discussion about this feature: https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1227
Code: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/47

Most institutions add their own eye candy and specific graphics. If you see
anything in particular out there you like, you can always reach out to
these institutions to see if they want to share their approach/code.

hope this helps

Bram
