[Dspace-tech] DSPACE Issue...

2013-05-31 Thread Joseph Sayah
Dear Sirs,

My name is Joseph Sayah and I am the application administrator of DSPACE in the
Lebanese American University, kindly I need your Help on the following issue: I
just added a new metadata schema in DSPACE 1.6 called ar, my question is: how
I can submit my articles or projects using this new metadata schema not the
default one dc metadata schema? in other term: does DSPACE 1.6 allow the
end-users to switch the submission of the items between 2 metadata schemas ar
dc? please advise and thank you in advance.

Re: [Dspace-tech] forbidden oai import

2013-05-31 Thread esa
hello mr. Ady,

is the solr configured to localhost?, as you know that the solr should be
setting to localhost or 127.0.0.1.
if you use solr for the storage in the oai, you must set the solr.url to
localhost, so the import can be done.
like this:
solr.url=http://localhost:8080/solr/oai

and i think you must set cache.enable to 'false'. because in my oai server,
the data can't be updated until i set cache.enable to 'false'.

i hope this will help you.

oh yeah, are you indonesian ? i'm indonesian too, and now i'm working dspace
for widyatama university.

[Dspace-tech] Increase in lo Traffic Since 3.1 Upgrade

2013-05-31 Thread Sean Carte
I don't suppose this is normal, so I'd appreciate any hints on what might
be going wrong here.

Since upgrading to DSpace 3.1 (from 3.0 -- I think) and Tomcat 7 (from 6)
during the first week of April, traffic on lo has increased enormously:

Fortunately, traffic on eth0 has not increased like that:

And there are no other interfaces available.

I am using Apache's mod_proxy, so I expect traffic on 127.0.0.1 being sent
to/from port 8009, but this much?

Have I misconfigured something?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Error with Dspace OAI-PHM listing records and Identifiers

2013-05-31 Thread esa
hi helix,
you're right. the problem is the HTML URL encoding, but i still cannot find
where is the problem.
i read this :
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1014?page=com.xiplink.jira.git.jira-git-plugin:git-commits-tabpanel

but in my OREDisseminationCrosswalk.java the code is fixed.

i try to same thing too at OREIngestionCrosswalk.java because the both
OREDisseminationCrosswalk.java and OREIngestionCrosswalk.java have same
method (encodeForURL(String sourceString)). but its still not working. the
method only change the url into hexa.

until now i cannot find where is the problem. so to finish it, i using
URLDecoder in java to change %2f to ascii and its worked, %2f is change to
'/'.

thanks helix, for your help. sorry for my bad english.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Increase in lo Traffic Since 3.1 Upgrade

2013-05-31 Thread helix84
Hi Sean,

DSpace 3.1 is just a bugfix relase for 3.0, so that's hardly the
source of the increase. It will be something else you did while doing
the upgrade. Perhaps you started using either Discovery or the new
OAI.

Most importantly, DSpace uses the loopback interface to communicate
with Solr, which contains three cores: statistics (Solr statistics
since about 1.6), search (Discovery since 1.7 for XMLUI, optional for
3.0 JSPUI) and oai (OAI since 3.0). You can tell the Solr traffic
apart from your AJP (mod_proxy) traffic by port - Solr is listening on
8080 by default, while AJP is listening on 8009 by default.

Hi,

It looks like it only works in Firefox. In IE I get Invalid source. The

I change this?

Sorry, the upgrade was from DSpace 1.8. I had been using Discovery
previously.

I have been using tcpdump to watch traffic on 127.0.0.1 and, if I filter
out ports 8080 and 8009, there still seems to be a lot of traffic on high
ports like 5432, e.g.:

I just installed another server and clicked on a few browse links and
racked up 81MB on lo. So I suppose this is normal.

Even though DC does not provide a reasonable way to store ORCIDs, DSpace has
an authority control mechanism that is well-suited for this purpose:

That depends on what you mean by backing up DSpace.

The simplest method would be to set up a cron job to dump the database
to a file daily, and ensure that your regular automated system-level
backups include that dump and the DSpace assetstore(s). The DBMS' own
files can be excluded from backups, because there's no guarantee that
a filesystem backup of a DBMS will be internally consistent; use the
dump file to restore the database. With this method there is the
possibility that new submissions since the last database dump will be
reflected in the assetstore but not in the dump.

Another method, which produces fully consistent snapshots of the
repository, is to use DSpace's commandline 'packager' to export an
Archival Information Package for each object in the repository. See:

  https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore

DSpace is not going to automate any of this, nor should it try to
become an automated backup system. Each site has its own requirements
for backup. You will need to write a few simple scripts and use OS
facilities to have them run on a schedule. DSpace provides export
tools which can be driven by such scripts.

See also the various documentation sections on importing and
exporting, for other tools which can be used in crafting a backup plan.

 Any idea why this occurring?

Hi Marty,

this is occurring because the exporter distinguishes between fields
where the language is NULL and where the language is an empty string
(). There is really no reason why DSpace should treat these two
cases differently, so you can consider this a bug. Different
import/submission methods use different value for no language.
In addition, you could also get specific columns for different
languages, if you fill them in (e.g. dc.title[en_US]).

Is it ok to combine values into a single field?

Yes, it's completely harmless.

[Dspace-tech] DSpace statistics

2013-05-31 Thread Nason Bimbe
I am running Dspace 3.1 and I am interested in getting the number of
downloads from SOLR.

I run this
http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics/select?indent=onversion=2.2start=0rows=100fl=*%2Cscoreqt=standardwt=standardexplainOther=hl.fl=facet=truefacet.field=owningCommq=type:0

and when I look at the results in the facets section, the numbers seems too
high for a month's data. Looking into some of the docs returned I can see
that some are bots yet my config says bots should be omitted.

Can some please help me explain this? I have looked at
http://iplists.com/google.txt and this ip address is not on the list. What
is going on here?

[config snippet]
# control solr statistics querying to filter out spider IPs
# false by default
#query.filter.spiderIp = false

# control solr statistics querying to look at isBot field to determine
# if record is a bot. true by default.
#query.filter.isBot = true

[Dspace-tech] Harvesting OAI-ORE via XMLUI interface (v2)

2013-05-31 Thread Nemiz, Elvi
Hello Robert,

After reading your message in
http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/Harvesting-OAI-ORE-via-XMLUI-interface-v2-td4658480.html,
I'm wondering if someone offered you a solution and solved your problem? We
are having the same problem but in my case, I'm trying to harvest from our
production server to my test server. I checked inside the /var/oai/requests
from our production server and found the error No matches for the query
but when I go to the DSpace OAI-PMH Data Provider Interface, it actually
fetched records. I wonder if there's a configuration in oai.cfg that I
missed. I tried helix's suggestion of uncommenting ore.authoritative.source
= oai and adding dspace.oai.uri but I'm still having the Last Harvest
Result: Error occured while generating an OAI response... error. Hope you
can help me if you have fixed this error or someone from dspace-tech
mailing list have a solution. We are running dspace 3.0 and our OAI base
url is http://repository.seafdec.org.ph/oai/request.

Thanks in advance and regards,
elvi

Dear All,

I tried harvesting from demo.dspace.org and I also got the same error. I
successfully harvested content from http://scholar.sun.ac.za/ although the
identifier is broken.

For your info.
