GE David -

Your information is helpful. However, there are missing QSOs made by some
friends both here and across the pond.

Whether the Q's were with "pirates" (doubtful) or not, remains to be
seen. Time will tell.

Again...If in doubt, work them again.

[DX-CHAT] pile up management

2007-04-07 Thread Charles Harpole
Little ole HS raised an EU huge pileup the other day on 20. Callers so deep
that I had to work split and call by numbers.

I began for the first time to use my ProLog program that gives most
operators' names as soon as their call is entered... AND replying to caller
with his name. I just did it for fun, but then I began to notice the pile
up was better behaved began to wonder if it was the personal names that
helped. Stopped using names to test it yep, the pileup got more
unrulely...

Lesson: Use callers names if possible and get more personal and maybe
elicit more responsible operating practice eh? 73

Jim,

Three or four days into the operation asking if anyone knows
what is up with the on-line logs - since the function is there -
is not out of line. Even for an experienced DXer it is nice to
have the confirmation so those who have worked them can get out
of the pile-up and let some of the weaker signals, antenna
challenged and less experienced operators have a chance!

No, it came from a DXCC card checker, according to his signature.

[DX-CHAT] N8S Spots

2007-04-07 Thread Charles Wooten NF4A
Simply amazing this morning on 40 meter phone.N8S is working JA's then
decides it is time to work some US stns split..he gives out the freq he
is listening to for US stns and less than 3 seconds, someone spots
him...then 5 seconds later, someone else does...what happened to listening
for the station (I had been listening to him for about 30 min work
JA's)his first qsx freq was bad so he went to another oneTHE SAME
GUY spots him again on the 2nd qsx freqN8S works about 3-5 stns, then
says there is too much QRM and goes back to listening on 7090 for JA's

I know this is petty but I had to say it..I guess the spotters had
already worked him and decided they were "helping out".NOT!

2007-04-07 Thread Ron Notarius W3WN
All right. Let's put a stop to this right now.

Folks, forgive me if I seem a little cranky, I just got back from a 12 hour
stay at the hospital (the wife is fine, although her appendix was granted a
trial separation around 0700 Z). Still, I see that a few tempers are
starting to flare up, and before anyone crosses the line on what is and is
not allowed on this reflector, I'm going to ask everyone to cool off and
back off.

If you wish to continue a discussion about the merits of the N8S on-line
log, and if and how often you feel it should be updated, that's fine. But
some of the name calling that's begun, and related comments, that must stop.
If you wish to bicker, please do it privately or elsewhere.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Bloody hell. Someone asked a simple question about the log check, and all the
old timers are getting on their soap boxes about how much better it was when
.

You should some over to the UK and listen to the G3 Tomato Growers telling
each other on 80m how much better it was when you could get a trolley bus into
