Re: [DX-CHAT] Tracking the SHOGUN?
Perhaps the singular thing fueling the negativity after they left the island is the webmaster's inability to simply change the home page to read QRT rather than QRV. Some folks would understand that logs can't easily be uploaded at sea, but you know, some isn't most, so a little note there would seem appropriate. Just sense a lot of grumbling that the web page seems to be abandoned. [DX-CHAT] Those scaffolds
Nobody else has mentioned this so I feel the need. How did those guys get those platforms erected so quickly? They appear to be quite sturdy. Wonder if they borrowed somebody's back yard, had a dump truck full of rocks dropped off, and practiced doing this a few times. Ya' know this wasn't very easy, even if they were able to wade hip deep next to the rocks. If somebody could get the actual dimensions and forms of the rocks, the next trip out they could have foam-fitted platforms to just drop over the rock and start working! Re: [DX-CHAT] 11 year cycle
Frank Macklin wrote: Can someone tell me if we have reached the bottom of this cycle and if not when is it expected to occur, Frank VK1ZL You can only tell if you have bottomed out after the fact. As bad as it is this week, it might be worse next month and the month after that. Give it six months and look back to this week and only then will you know if it has bottomed out. There is no absolute minimum below which the cycle numbers can go. The cycle is the result of many numbers being averaged over time which results in that nice chart we all love to look at. The bottom must be very close, but remember that the upswing may take a couple of years as well. Gary AB5RM

Re: [DX-CHAT] re:verticals
Sorry you're unhappy with the GAP Challenger. Just a couple things though. It is resonant on 80 meters but not 160 meters, so it is no surprise you screamed your lungs out without a response. The problem with most multiband antennas seems to be their lack of efficiency on the lowest band on which they are resonant. I can't say that I have 5BDXCC on my GAP, but I CAN tell you that I have 4 band dxcc, and with 327 entities worked and confirmed, I'll hit the honor roll next submission. That was all done on a GAP over several years. You shouldn't knock it until you've used other verticals. It could be worse. The Butternuts do about as well, but are hard to tune and the doorknob caps have a bad habit of breaking 73 Gary AB5RM Timothy Varnadore wrote: What can I do (save selling it or making ita tomato hanger - I already have a dummy load!) with a GAP Challenger - I got suckered into it last year at the Miami hamfest because I dont have room for anything but a vertical (especially on 160M) . So I'm posting this to let everyone know that I received a card from ER1QQ via the bureau for a QSO on 11 Sep 01, and also one direct from ER7HQ for a QSO on 14 July 02.
