[Dx4win] Name and QTH field again

2009-08-11 Thread sm0mpv
I have been thinking of the Name and QTH fields and do
suggest that they should work as the square and IOTA fields,
i.e. be able to change without changing the previous. There
are several station operating portable from various islands,
summits, castles etc. it would be good to have that in the
QTH. Operator names could change during DXpeditions and at
club stations.

There are some stations that I think never will be able to
get right like GB7HQ that have been working within UK but
both from England and Scotland during the IARU HF
championships. I think the worked on different bands.

[Dx4win] SWL labels seems not working in 8.01

2009-08-11 Thread Alain, F 5 L I W
Hi to all,
I want to add a SWL report (Ctrl + F2) and print a label but not report is
saved and, of course, not label is printed.
I clear all SWL labels and try again : same result.
If I add the same SWL report without clearing SWL labels I get the message An
SWL exists already do you ant to remove it?. If I answer YES on NO the result
is the same : none report is saved and no label is printed.
Any idea ?

Yes it is strange... especially because Guy doesn't have
 the same problem.

Try importing this file into an empty log file then try
 to
 load it into
 a file with 1 QSO.

It works for Guy... but doesn't work here or for
 Kostas.
If I load it into an empty file I get 2 QSOs. If I try
 to
 load them into
a file that already has records... I get a duplicate
 rejection. Very
 strange...

let me know if it works for you Mel.

Re: [Dx4win] Name and QTH field again

2009-08-11 Thread Mel
Frankly I think it's folly to try and keep track of names and locations
for these kinds of stations. If you copy forward the data always becomes
questionable. That information belongs in QSO notes... that's what it's
for.

Note to Paul... if you ever even THINK of changing this... make it an
configurable preference ;-)

BTW, for Grid... it would be an interesting feature if we had a drop
down list of grid squares previously logged for a station. Most VHF
clubs tend to repetitively activate the same grids... wherever the
highest local mountain is... at the bottom of the job jar though.

2009 is the year of “Homecoming” in Scotland . “Homecoming” is a year

those interested in Scottish traditions to Scotland. Numerous events
have been and will be held throughout Scotland this year.

We thought that Amateur Radio in Scotland should play a part and are
pleased to announce that Ofcom have agreed to special prefixes to be
used by Radio Amateurs in Scotland until 30th November 2009.

The prefixes will be GA, MA and 2A . The A replacing the M in your
prefix (A to represent Alba the Gaelic name for Scotland).

If you wish to use this prefix you must apply online at

The special prefixes will only be issued to Amateurs whose main
residence is in Scotland..

Re: [Dx4win] Name and QTH field again

2009-08-11 Thread Mel
Frankly... I don't think Paul will be inclined to change this Mel. There
is definitely a design philosophy behind Paul's approach to log program
design. I think he aims for simplicity, performance and a focus on award
chasing. His database design is definitely slanted towards not including
unnecessary or redundant information in D4W. Generally I like his approach.

There is another possibility which I know Paul has thought about... so
just might show up eventually. It would be great to be able to store a
note to print on a QSL card. This would be a place to put the club
operator's name perhaps. The design issue here is where to store the QSL
note. You can't really attach it to the Callsign table so it would have
to be attached to the QSO table. But since this is not needed after the
QSL is printed, it's not terribly efficient. It might require a new
table like the SWL reports that are cleared after the QSL is printed.
Also, the log form starts to get longer as you add stuff. As you see,
even a simple feature starts to get complicated when you think about
it... but this is something I would definitely use.

[Dx4win] V8 no works well with satellite

2009-08-11 Thread Juanjo , EA3LX

Hi all!

I'm note that in the new V8 release it's not work properly with my sats qso's ,
when i'm find with F8 key all my sat qso's i'm look all qso's prior to the
update , all the sats qso's introduced after the update in the V8 are listed
correctly in the logbook but when you find with F8 only appers the imported
qso's of the V7 version but I repeat the qso's in the logbook are ok , why ???

Also I edit an adif file and all satellites qso's in the band camp are listed
as XXXM not as sat. When i'm export the log to BV7 all this qso's are marked as
an WRONG BAND , if I export first with the W3ZJ Adif Processor , the adif
processor reconizes this errors and change all this errors to SAT and after BV7
works well without errors.

Thanks ,

SAT is not a valid ADIF band, see:

http://www.adif.org/adif223.htm#Band%20Enumeration

Paul, Guy and I spent a lot of time making DX4WIN be more compatible
with Satellite QSOs. These are the ADIF fields for Satellite
operation:

PROP_MODE=SAT
SAT_MODE
SAT_NAME

Software that imports an ADIF file needs to search for one of these
fields to determine that the QSO was made via Satellite. DX4WIN is
now correct when exporting the BAND field for satellites.

I have copied Bernd, DF3CB so he can fix BV7.

Re: [Dx4win] More Bandmap Stuff

2009-08-11 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Lou,

Some, maybe most, of what you want is there already but missing from the
documentation:

Mouse

In frequency section:

Single click: sets the red arrow to that location . When follow radio is
enabled, the location will be reset with the next radio poll.
(Note that zoom-in will use the red arrow as the new center)

double-click: sets the radio frequency

In spots section:

Single click: Show spot info in various windows when adding in real-time
and the callsign field is empty.

Double-click: Grab the spot (sets radio frequency, start adding QSOs
real-time, enters callsign and mode based on frequency.

Ctrl + double-click: Delete the spot.

Lou Dietrich wrote:
 All,

There are a lot of poor spots announced on the cluster...for instance, calls

Currently, they show up on our Bandmap with no way of removing them... I
just worked 3DA0EL and it was incorrectly posted as 3DA0TB...but I have no
way of removing the erroneous spotso my bandmap is cluttered with bad
 spots

It would be very useful if we could 'right click' on these spots and have an
 option to delete them

This Bandmap is a fine feature...with a few enhancements, it will be
 great
