Re: [Dx4win] Feature Request
Here are a few enhancements I'd like to request: Add OQRS to the QSL Method dropdown list. Change the background color of the Radio button so that started/stopped status can be determined at a glance. Eg, green background means started. Sometimes its not so obvious why a certain priority is given to a DX spot. Add an option to the right-click menu in the DX Spots window that will provide a reason (or reason code) for the priority chosen for the selected spot. (I've had spots show up as priority 8 when in reality it should have been priority 2, new mode. I couldn't determine why the wrong priority was set.) Thanks for considering. 73, Kris N5KM On Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 7:40 AM, dx4win-requ...@mailman.qth.net wrote: Date: Wed, 8 Jan 2014 12:17:41 -0500 From: Paul van der Eijk pvandere...@gmail.com To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Feature Request Message-ID: cak7babc76fd84k8i_c0sqfixcpb2pudqdnjmnqiy36ubfat...@mail.gmail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Bob, So Noted, --Paul, KK4HD On Tue, Jan 7, 2014 at 10:08 PM, R.T.Liddy k...@ameritech.net wrote: I can't resist jumping on the bandwagon. I'd like DX4WIN to do the same thing. Right now, the only way they end up on the Bandmap is to have them spotted on the Packet Cluster unless I'm not aware of some option. I work a lot of stations that aren't spotted and I don't spot them myself if they're common. [Dx4win] Change?
I have been using DX4Win since the early 1990s first versions and have updated many times. The latest Updater to update all parameters is a joy to use and thanks to whoever wrote the software. Over the years I have suggested a few changes some of which have been implemented. It is my belief that any paid for program should reflect the current usage requirements. Clearly, the demands of internet, data integration with our station hardware and the current revolution in QSLing should have meant that DX4Win would have been updated a few times over the past few years. DX4Win seems to have stagnated with Version 8.05. In my mind it is falling behind in features for the user. DX4Win is a great program and works very well for me but the bottom line is that needs to be updated. I don't know why it isn't being worked on. I made the decision last month to research other logging programs with a download and trial. Most of the them are either too limited in features or too overblown and hard to learn. All of them will not print directly onto a QSL card which is a major requirement for me as I QSL several callsigns. I don't do labels! The one that seems to come close to DX4Win is Prolog. I quite like it's operation and have ordered a copy to try. It seems to have all the features I need and is constantly being updated. I will post again in a few weeks to let you know my experience with it. *73, Lee ZL2AL* __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] Change?
I'm also a long time user of DX4WIN. If I recall correctly the 4WIN part of the name roughly equates to for Windows. This was done to differentiate itself from all the other logging programs that ran on character based/old fashioned DOS. At the time for Windows was a big deal. Not any more. Everything is for Windows, or perhaps for one of the flavors of Linux. I am in day 4 of my personal evaluation of HRD 6.x (paid version). As a general logging program, I like HRD 6.x better than DX4Win 8.x. When HRD was at 5.x, DX4WIN was better. This is no longer true in my opinion. I'm slowly migrating to HRD.
