[Dx4win] DX4WIN UPDATE
Hi all It is very very frustrating to see that there is absolutely no information on upcoming updates on the main program. It would be quite easy to say either there will be no updates, or to say which points are being worked on for next update. If there will be improvement, I would like to see one addition on the QSL method choices, i.e. add OQRS bureau and OQRS direct. But once again, having been a DX4Win user for many many years, how come there is no info whatsoever on what we can expect from the developers. 73 Paul F6EXV --- Ce courrier électronique ne contient aucun virus ou logiciel malveillant parce que la protection avast! I had same thoughts about 3 years ago. My guess is DX4WIN is nearing end-of-life. I was an early adopter. I've since moved one to HRD. My 2 cents. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN UPDATE
DX4Win has been motionless in respect to program improvements for many years now, probably six or seven. The update from v7 to v8 was pretty much useless as the digital inclusion never was successful. I moved from WJ2O in 2004, when DX4Win was pretty much state of the art, at least in terms of amateur radio logging programs, and have watched it remain more or less motionless while a number of other programs simply passed it in terms of output. Or, at least, so I am told. At this stage, the only reason I don't move is that the two or three programs that are 'allegedly' at the top of the programming tree are so complex, and do so many things that I am not the slightest bit interested in, and take so much computer management skills and time that I cannot be bothered. DX4Win has peaked - if you want to have your logger do smarter things, you are going to have to move programs. Simple as that. Do I kike the situation - not really, but like the great majority of us, nought I can do about it. My view. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN UPDATE
It would be nice if Paul would communicate with his user base a bit more frequently. I think he is trying to set some sort of a record to see how long the program will maintain an active user base without him ever responding or providing an update again. Hi, hi But I must say that DX4WIN still performs flawlessly in managing my 80,000+ contacts across several different call signs. It also interfaces beautifully with SteppIR and the Top Ten Devices DX Doubler (SO2R box) and Band Decoder -- and my two K3s. Plus, we get all of the great free support from Jim, AD1C. If Paul was trying to charge us an annual maintenance fee, that would be a different matter. I have tried converting to HRD and DXLabs several times and both come crunching to a halt when I try to load in my number of contacts. There is also no practical way to automatically enter all of the DXCC confirmations for almost 2,500 band/countries into a new program. Unfortunately, I do not recommend DX4WIN to friends given the lack of support and communication from Paul and the uncertainty of support for the program going forward--especially when new users would have to pay for a non-supported product. But whenever logging programs come up for discussion, I tend to be quiet and count my blessings that I have the best program on the market--and I don't have to pay an annual maintenance fee. Why let everyone else in a our great little secret? In short, it is still an excellent program and it's free! [Dx4win] Status
Before answering too many private emails, I want to share my reply with all of you: We signed a contract on a house back in Aug-2012 with expected delivery in Apr-2013. We sold our house in January 2013, and moved into a small town house for a few month. Lots of stuff went into storage, including my radios. But finally after a long wait, we are supposed to close on the new house at the end of this month. Without the radios connected to my development computer etc I never felt secure enough to release a new version. But as soon as the dust settles, I expect to be back in business. I have collected plenty of suggestions that need work, some of them have been implemented already. All DX4WIN users should feel good about the regular updates of the country database that Jim, AD1C, provides. --73, Paul, KK4HD ~ DX4WIN logging software Paul van der Eijk, KK4HD BrookHill Data Systems LLC http://www.dx4win.com __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

As I'm not very active these days and don't really chase awards any more, DX4WIn still suits my needs. If I were more active and chasing awards, I would have looked elsewhere about 5 years ago. I predict the next update will be a patch to keep it working with Win9. Barry W2UP P.S. Just as an FYI: DXLab can import a DX4WIN log. All you have to do is convert it to ADIF and then import it. It can also compare your log with LOTW and flag all discrepancies.
