[Dx4win] DX Spots announce

2017-10-30 Thread W9RPM
Hi, I just noticed that new Bands aren't announcing in DX4WIN. Speakers
are working fine as I played something on You Tube. Everything is as it
was in 805. Audio/Voice has Band/Call. DX Alerts has New Band or Mode.
Any ideas? I use a Baby Monitor when I am upstairs so I need it to work.

Thanks, John W9RPM

Just to clarify...

When I import my WSJT-X ADIF file (log), and DX4WIN prompts for
"Options for duplicate QSOs", I choose "Imported QSO is ignored."
This means that any FT8 QSOs I have already imported into DX4WIN from
that log will be ignored - only the new ones will be imported.

Two improvements were made for DX4WIN 9.01:

1. DX4WIN 9.01 remembers the duplicate QSO selection for the next import.

2. DX4WIN 9.01 has an 'X' in the upper-right corner of the
Import/Export filters window,
which makes it easier to exit than using File | Exit (one click
instead of two).

Also, if DX4WIN has trouble finding your WSJT-X log, by default it is
located in this directory:

%localappdata%\WSJT-X

I typically type in the %localappdata% part then double-click on the
WSJT-X directory icon when it appears.

DX4WIN will remember the last import location, so if the last thing
you did was import a WSJT-X log, you should already be in the correct
directory to import it again with new QSOs.

Paul was able to determine that this is a migration problem from a v7
log directly to a v9 log. If the log is migrated from v7 *through v8*
then to v9, the award status flags are maintained.

None of the beta testers noticed this because we all started from 8.05
logs when we tested 9.01!

I assume this will be fixed in a future update.

I'll try to fix the program in the next couple of days.

It would be nice if dx4win updater could remember our previous checked
updates. So if I uncheck samplelog  file once shouldbe remain unchecked
until I check it again. It not nice to have to uncheck it (and maybe
others - for example I maintain my own calendar and accidentally I
updated it one) every time.

If your radio interface is active, then this is the expected behavior,
assuming the radio is set to USB or LSB to make FT8 QSOs. DX4WIN
always tries to use the selected radio mode if the radio interface is
active.  This would have also been true for RTTY if you were using
AFSK keying.  In other words, it's not something new, but perhaps
something that could be improved upon.

I find it easier to just do all my FT8 work in WSJT-X and periodically
import the ADIF file into DX4WIN.  I know that some people would like
to see things more integrated.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 9.01 and "Compare DX4WIN Award Credit Status with LoTW"

2017-10-30 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Hi Folks,

Some of you may have used this program to compare your DXCC award
credits in DX4WIN with those in the ARRL Logbook of the World system.
It's far easier than tracking down a discrepancy by hand, i.e. ARRL
says you have 301 entities confirmed on 17m, but DX4WIN shows 300 (or
302).

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

Leo, IZ5FSA discovered today that the program does not work with
DX4WIN 9.01. The program uses a prefix mapping file that is only
present in DX4WIN versions 8.05 and earlier.

To work around the problem, copy the file from 8.05 (or earlier) to 9.01:

dx4w805\SAVE\adif.pmp  =>  dx4w901\SAVE\adif.pmp

I will have to modify the program to fix this. The simplest fix is to
embed the prefix mapping table directly into the program, because
there is no equivalent data file in DX4WIN 9.01. The downside is that
if any entities are added or removed from the ARRL DXCC list, the
program could require an update.

Bud, given enough time (of which I have little), I could add callsign
to IOTA mappings to the country database.

Make sure to grab the latest country file (October 30). Try test
logging something like VK7ABC - the IOTA should come up as Tasmania,
not Australia. Same goes for IF9 (EU-054), etc. This was missing from
the first country file released with DX4WIN 9.01.

Hi Jim,

1.I checked item 1 by going thru the DXCC window and choosing the more
rare entities. I found all to have IOTA's assigned.

2.Yes this is true for single island entities.

3.Yes the double back check is understood.

4.OK, it will not correct any previously entered wrong IOTA's.

5.I ran the CHECK IOTAs and saw a message window open.
One IOTA was set.
I don't know which one and so don't know where to find IOTAMSG in WHICH QSO
notes.
My message was not specific like yours which pointed you to a callsign and
the PA QSO issue.

6..The remainder of your email has great insight into the what and how.
Thanks.

No issues to report.

Was just hoping for some magic in finding any QSO's with IOTAs that I failed

Again thanks for your help. Always appreciated.

[Dx4win] DXCC Deleted Checked status data following upgrade

2017-10-30 Thread Don Butler
I have just upgraded from version 7 to version 9 (specifically version 7.07 to
version 9.01) … After opening my version 7 logfile (which had been copied to
the “Save” folder in the newly installed version 9) all DXCC checked status
data seems to have been deleted .

It was my understanding that the old logfile would be converted to version 9
compatibility by simply copying it into the new “save” folder prior to program
launch ….. as far as I can tell everything converted satisfactorily except for
all of those very important award status fields …. in my case I am missing
those “C”s from well over 3000 QSOs!

I do have the old version 7 logfile saved in a few secure locations of course
….

I must have overlooked something very simple? …. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Don, N5LZ

Bud, please re-read this and see if it makes sense:

http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/dx4win/2017-October/023026.html

The answer is basically yes. But it's not going to assign any obscure IOTAs.
