Re: [Dx4win] Expert mode and DX Doubler
Dave, I too am using my DX Doubler with 9.0.4 with Win7. I wonder if you have installed the lptdriver? Assuming you installed DX4W directly in C: drive, you will find this at C:/dx4w/drivers/lptdriver. Al, K5NOF -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of n...@vci.net Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2018 12:51 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Expert mode and DX Doubler I am trying to reinstall my legacy DX Doubler SO2R box with DX4WIN ver 9.0.4. It used to work great under version 8.5. When I go to Preferences, Control tab, I cannot change the Type or LPT1 port under Band Decoder. With version 9.04, the type is grayed out as None under Band decoder. As I recall, you used to have to go into the Personal tab to turn on expert mode to change this, but that is no longer available. Is Top Ten Devices using a LPT port still supported in Version 9? And can anyone tell me what happened to Expert Mode? No, those of us which choose to run obsolete systems, pay the money to run strong anti-virus and anti-malware, dedicate our PC's to our ham radio setup and turn them off when not in use. [Dx4win] Importing Paper Logs
I commenced using DX4Win in the mid-90s and immediately commenced to covert my paper logs to digital format. I used "Basic Log" which is an Excel program to enter the fundamental QSO information and then transform the file to adif format. The process is pure drudgery but in time all QSOs in my paper log were in an adif file and then imported into DX4Win. I have never regretted the effort it took. I did a quick internet search to see if this was still on line but could not find it. But I have the original zipped free-ware file and will be happy to send it to anyone interested. Simply let me know. 73, Al Walters - K5NOF k5...@arrl.net __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] DX4Win Status
OK. I haven't been here since the "beginning," only since v5. I moved from Log Windows to DX4Win in the late 1990's when Log Windows was having problems with authors and support, and I have not regretted the move one instant. Sure, there are some who wish various enhancements, mostly ability to record the new digital modes. I for one would like the see the membership of a call propagate into the logging window to help me when it comes time to decide how to QSL. I am sure there are others with various wants. Life is tough, and sometime requires work arounds. But please tell me, what is it in DX4Win that doesn't work? And with AD1C's wonderful support page, what is it you don't know how to do? Paul has a "day job," and maybe he will get around to an update; maybe he won't. If not, I think you are still using the best general logging package in Amateur Radio. Sure, there are others that are coming along, and if you want to go through the pain of transition and then the pain of the learning curve, have at it! Best wishes to all, Al Walters, K5NOF k5...@arrl.net __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Member List
Carter, Not on the air. The L is displayed in the band map after the call. For example, K5NOF L in the band map spot indicates that station is a member of LoTW. But MAS2 (or MAS1 for earlier versions) must be installed in the Dx4win folder (not in save) and one must be connected to a spot node via the internet. My understanding of the way it works is, as calls are received from the spotting network, each is compared with the various membership lists in the Dx4win folder and the appropriate indicator (L for Lotw or E for EQSL) is then displayed. Jim -- please add a better description if I don't have it quite right. 73, Al - K5NOF __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Members List
Mel, What you really want is for the QSO window to do the same lookup on current membership lists as the Spot Window... that would definitely be handy... Exactly, and then save the result with the other QSO information for reference later. 73, Al - K5NOF __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Members List
Dear Dx4win Users' Group, I agree with John, W9ILY. Spot membership information should be imported into the QSO window to be permanently recorded with the contact. It is QSL time for 2010 ARRL DXCW and DXSSB. So far, 30% of my DX contacts from these two events have been confirmed in LoTW. I too, would like a way to permanently record a station's LoTW status. Later I can review the QSO and the Awards data base, then decide to wait some more for LoTW confirmation; send my card and SAE with green stamps direct to the DX or a SASE to the U.S. QSL Manager rather than wait; or, simply send a stamped QSL card or use ARRL's Outgoing QSL Service. As great is Dx4win V8.3 is , there is still room for improvement to help the QSL process. Guy, Jim, Paul - how about it? Now for the editorials. Hopefully more DX contesters will see the advantage of joining LoTW since it is clear to me SP operators will increasingly focus on DX calls followed by L. However, there is the other side of the coin that says, the QSL card is the final courtesy of the QSO. OK, anyone that wishes to send a courtesy card in addition to LoTW confirmation can do so direct where necessary or through ARRL's Outgoing QSL service, and the recipient will likely send a replay via the Bureau. Finally, RSGB has yet to agree to allow LoTW confirmation for IOTA credit. ARRL tells me they are agreeable, so the ball is in the Brit's court! Meanwhile, a card from the IOTA entity is still required for submission by those chasing an IOTA award. 73, Al - K5NOF __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] SignaLink USB
Dear DX4Win List Members, I bought the SignaLink external USB sound card from Tigertronics thinking to preserve my internal sound card for DX announcements. It is up and running using DigiPan but no such luck with DX4Win. Looking at Preferences/Control/PSK Sound Card - I have a choice between Default, Card 0, 1, 2, or 3. No where do I find what I need -- USB Audio CODEC. Am I missing something? Or is this simply the way it is going to be, and I am stuck using DigiPan but not DX4Win? [Dx4win] SignaLink USB
Thanks to Jim, Kostas and Mel. I tried Card 0, 1, 2, and 3 with no success. So I returned to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio and Changed the Default sound card to USB Audio CODEX. Then returned to DX4Win and selected Default. All works OK now except no DX announcements - a secondary consideration - in fact I needed to change Preferences/Packet1/DX Alerts to None to prevent a spot from keying the radio. I will leave well enough alone for now but still want to see if I can get the USB soundcard to work using the Card selections other than Default. But for now all is OK. Thanks again to Jim, Kostas and Mel. 73, de Al - K5NOF SK __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
