Re: [Dx4win] Groups

2015-02-05 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Jay,

Under File, Preferences, Personal tab, User Level - you must have selected
at least Advanced (Expert will work also). Then File, Save Changes and
close and re-start the program.

You may want to change back to the Regular user level after you do that, so
you don't screw too many things up while you are re-learning the program
(it's the voice of experience).

Hope that helps.

Re: [Dx4win] exporting log

2014-09-18 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Dwayne,

That makes it very easy. In the log entry window, under the LoTW menu,
select Export to LoTW. This will open a window for you to name and save
the file. Make sure you know where you put it. You may chose to clear the
upload flags or not. The file you saved is an ADIF file, that TQSL can
handle directly.

A couple hints - you must have the LoTW flag set in order for QSOs to show
up in the ADIF file. You can use filters to select whichever QSOs you want
and then set the LoTW flag in the same menu selection.Once you generate
the ADIF file - if you screw something up and want to create a new ADIF
file - you must clear the upload date and reset the upload flag (both in
the same menu) before it will let you re-make the ADIF file.

Good luck.

I'm still working on this - it's been a HUGE project. Even though the
work to identify differences is automated, resolving those differences
takes time. It takes an average of 2-5 minutes for each one,
including research, discussion with G3PMR, then actually making
changes (if needed). This doesn't include time spent looking into new
information we discover along the way. So given I've found at least
300 such differences so far, that adds up to between 10-25 hours of
continuous work, if I had that kind of time. And I'm only up to the
J callsigns at this point, so K-Z still lie ahead.

If there's a rush to push out a new country file due to the recent
IOTA changes, I can do that. However, I'd rather try to finish this
project first, hopefully by the end of the month, if not a little
 sooner.

Re: [Dx4win] On-Going Annual country totals

2014-01-09 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Steve,

Every time you start DX4Win, you have to go to Filter, Selection and choose
2014. The QSOs in the original Selection do show up in the Other QSOs
window. The Reports only cover the Selection you have chosen. My
suggestion is to make the original Selection include ALL QSOs (including
2014). Then you can easily see Reports covering all your QSOs and only
2014. When you select 2014, the cluster alerts will be based on your 2014
needs - be prepared for a lot of alerts! :) I think the Selection
capability is one of the most powerful options in DX4Win and, not to
restart an old thread, it is one that DXLab does not have.

[Dx4win] Updates - My LoTW Opinion and a Question

2014-01-05 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Relative to LoTW improvements: One of the great features of DX4Win is it's
ability to handle multiple logs, whether they are DXpeditions, grid
expeditions or just a club call. Using the Groups and Selections choices,
they can be combined or separated easily. LoTW requires that some of these
logs be signed (by TQSL) individually (for example, an operation from a
different grid square). I believe that any attempt to reduce the number of
clicks to shorten the LoTW upload process will degrade this feature.
Incorporation of additional information from LoTW in the download process
is a great idea, although I think LoTW is not a mature system and waiting
until it settles out has some merit (the recent upgrades to TQSL are an
example). I can handle a couple extra clicks for a while longer.

My question: Can someone explain the XML interface to QRZ.com? Is this is
an automated download of address or similar information? In my experience,
much of the information in QRZ.com is poorly formatted and occasionally
just plain wrong. If you only work USA stations, it is pretty consistent,
but not so for DX stations. Help me out

Thanks, 73 and HNY to everyone.

Bud N7CW

PS - thanks again to Jim for all his hard work and support.

Re: [Dx4win] contest mode

2013-07-02 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi Bill,

In order to make this work, you must fill in all the information in the box
that pops up when you select Contest Mode - including the date and time
(which has to be before you start entering QSOs), the Contest Mode Enabled
box must be checked and the text you want added must be entered. The
sequence number appears in the line right below the program menu bar (which
says File, Radio, Help). It can be sent as part of a CW message by using
the appropriate macro in the CW Keyboard. The Text for QSO appears in the
Notes for this QSO field in the Log Window after you enter the QSO - that
is, you have to go back and look at it. Don't forget you can Disable
Fields in the QSO Menu so that the cursor hops only to the fields you want
to enter.

Selection and Edit Group Names are a function of your user level. But in
order to update the user level, you have to close and restart the program.

Hope that helps.

Pat - the smartass answer is Work them! Easier said than done for sure.

You may have a 6M QSO accidentally entered as C5 or TK. Try Filtering (F8)
on C5 (after hitting F8, put your cursor in the Prefix window and hit F1.
Type The and select The Gambia) and filter on 6M (move your cursor into
Band and select 6m). The hit Enter. Any 6M QSO for C5 will show up in the
log entry window. Sorry if this is over-explained.

Hope that works.

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW Support

2013-01-07 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
  Snip

Since we all have opinions, I guess I will put mine out there.

I like the LoTW interface. I have a significant number of logs from
different locations in my master DX4Win log and each has to be treated
differently by TQSL. So an automatic upload doesn't make sense to me. The
number of clicks is so small now as to be trivial.

The easy ability to handle logs from different locations and to generate
reports that either combine or ignore those locations is also a plus. A
number of years ago, I looked at the DXLab Suite and there was no way to
handle this issue - perhaps it has changed now. But when I politely
queried the author about a way to handle my problem, I received a very
short, very curt reply - Not now and Not ever. That ended any chance of my
switching to his software.

My occasional off the record inquiries to other ops about the DXLab Suite
have resulted in comments similar to what Dave, N4QS wrote. I know there
are a number of folks that swear by it. It's great that we have so many
choices and I really hope that Paul continues to support it, even at the
level he is supporting it now.

I understand all of the requests made by Lou, N2TU (although I don't agree
they are all enhancements) except the handling of CW Skimmer. Can someone
explain to me what that is about?

And lastly, along with the other comments, I have to say a huge THANK YOU
to Jim for all his support over the years.

Re: [Dx4win] Stay Alive

Hi Alan,

Use a text editor to edit the dx4win.tcp file. Add a | (above the \ on my
keyboard) and a number to the end of the line on your favorite Telnet
connection. The number defines how many minutes to wait before it sends a
keep alive to the connection. For example:

N7ODHemet-CA,n7od.pentux.net: 7373|3

This sends a keep alive to N7OD every 3 minutes.

You may have to add this change every time you use Jim's Updater.

I believe DX4Win checks both the Upload Flag and the Upload Date before
uploading. If Jim is correct and you previously uploaded those QSOs, you
can use the LoTW/Clear LoTW Upload Date selection after you have filtered

Harry, most likely, you had already exported ~ 140 of those QSOs, to
LoTW, so they did not get marked with the upload flag a second time.

If you really want to export this subset, regardless of whether they
were exported previously, use the main menu to get to File |
Import/Export, then just import the current selection (296 QSOs) to
ADIF. It will accomplish what you want.

Re: [Dx4win] Elecraft K3 Radio Interface problem.

2012-05-09 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi John,

Your computer may be putting the USB port to sleep. In Windows 7 try this:

Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options. Next to Recommended
Settings, select Change Plan Settings. Then click Change Advanced Power
Settings. Click the + next to USB Settings. Click the + next to USB
Selective Suspend Setting. If you click on the Setting: Enable, you will
get a drop down box that allows you to change it to Disable.

I hope that solves your problem.

Re: [Dx4win] Creating a Group within a Group

2012-03-20 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hey Fred,

One way to do this is to use Selections. You can name Selections just like
groups and then specify which groups are in each Selection. I have one
Selection named All QSOs and another named Prescott. Groups 0 - 43 are
my QSOs from San Diego (I use the groups to represent contests - which
seems pointless now) and Selection 2 contains groups 44 - N as my QSOs from
Prescott. One advantage of this procedure is that I can check awards by
Selection - that is, Selection 1 gives me an overall DXCC, while Selection
2 gives me a DXCC just for Prescott. Let me know if you want more info on
Selections.

Re: [Dx4win] Q: How to put Skimmer AND (telnet) packet spots in the spots window?

2012-02-10 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
One easy way is to log onto a Telnet cluster that has the Skimmer spots in
it's output by default. N7AZ.net does this.

One problem I have with this scenario:

I use the packet filtering in DX4Win so that only spots from zones 3 and 4
are checked against the log. I assumed that 80% of the time, I won't be
able to hear the same guys as you East Coasters. Since DX4Win deletes
earlier spots for the same call, when T6AA is spotted by a west coast
station and then immediately spotted again by an east coast Skimmer, the
spot is grayed out and the alarm doesn't go off. So I miss it - this
happens a lot! My final solution is that when I am in the shack but not
tuning, I use a cluster without Skimmer spots. When I am at the radio and
tuning, I use a cluster with the Skimmer turned on.

Re: [Dx4win] Just Joined - Update

2012-01-17 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Without verifying the problem myself, I believe there are 2 issues.

First, as has been explained here, TQSL must be set up properly.

Second, the ADIF import from N1MM into DX4Win is not very complete. Jim,
AD1C, has solved this problem with his program, ADIF2DXQ. See
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/adif2dxq/index.html . Although it is an extra step
in the N1MM to DX4Win import process, I have found it very valuable. It
fills in almost all of the information that is normally missing.

One other thought - when you download and import the LoTW file into DX4Win,
a file named lotwreport.notfound is generated. You can look at this file
from within DX4Win (use LoTW, Review QSOs not found). If there is
mis-matched information between the LoTW file and your log, there will be
an X in the far left column. You can review the issues and fix them, if
you want. However, I'm not sure this will happen if the state is missing
from either the LoTW file or the log.

Please let us know if you find something else.

I am one of the stations Rick contacted about missing State Info.

Here is what I have found that may be causing the problem.

Importing an ADIF file from N1MM into DX4WIN after a contest, and then
uploading the resulting DX4WIN ADIF file to LoTW will produce the error.
Only my call (K4CIA) and United States of America will show in the QSO
detail. My TQSL file has all the correct information, but it does not
transfer to a QSO from the imported N1MM files. QSOs from my normal DX4WIN
QSOs show the proper Detail...state/zone, etc.

No idea why but maybe some of you smarter guys can figure it out and post
a fix. Further, my N1MM configuration has everything correct as well.

 Any ideas?

Re: [Dx4win] Just joined

2012-01-15 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi Rick,

I think I understand your question - your LoTW downloads come back without
a state specified for the station that you worked?

If so, that is a function of each person's LoTW setup and not of the
logging program. It is done in the TQSL program.

I would suggest that you write a very simple tutorial that explains how to
update your state, grid, county zone, whatever, in TQSL and send it to
those people. You might get a 10% improvement on your LoTW returns :)

Re: [Dx4win] QSL Labels for Multiple Calls

2012-01-05 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Yes, but I am already using the group numbers to divide up my log in other
ways - by contest, for example. Another option would be to start the group
numbers over with each Selection, so they could have different names.

The other problem I have is that award tracking is based on Selections,
with a subset of Groups. This is very nice for tracking awards if you have
changed locations - for example, I moved from California to Arizona a few
years ago. My DXCC totals move with me, but my VUCC totals do not. So by
making a Selection for Arizona (and the default is All QSOs - which
combines both California and Arizona), I can easily separate those awards.
But if I make my other logs as different Selections (or Groups), they will
affect my award totals.

I still think I need the Greeting to be changeable with the log

Re: [Dx4win] QSL Labels for Multiple Calls

2012-01-05 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Although Kostas' idea is a good one and very useful, I agree with Paul. I
am already using many group names so I cannot use Kostas' solution. I
would like a customizable label per log.

 Hi all, and Kostas
Fair enough, this is an option. Thank you for the suggestion.
Still, the only customizable info is PSE or TNX QSL and a phrase that
will be on every label, but will be the same on every callsign. But I see
no solution if I want something else. _/For example/_, no comment at all
on PJ7X label, and PSE QSL via REF on TO5FJ label.
In other words, a fully customizable label text for each callsign.
Instead of customizing the label one time for the whole program, how
about a customizable label text per callsign ?

All qsos should be at group 1 named F6EXV.
  This will print Pse/Tnx... 73 de F6EXV

The log with the multiple logs
  in group1 we have TO5FJ, in group2 PJ7X etc.
the same command will print, depending on the group...
  Pse/Tnc... 73 de TO5FJ or PJ7X etc.
I think this is the better way to handle this.

  Hi all
  My situation is slightly different.
I have my main log F6EXV as a stand-alone log, so that statistics and so
  on are appropriate.
I manage several operations like TO5FJ, PJ7X to just name 2, so I do not
want to mix these calls with any other.
When I have to print a label for TO5FJ, I have to go to
Files/Preferences/Rep-Label and change the2 lines of comments. Then I
print the lables. If I need to print a label from PJ7X to that same
station, I have to go over all the process again.
The difference in the label comments are not necesarily only the
  callsign.

In other words, I wish I could define a label (size and comment) for
each callsign. Then, when I open a different log, I should be able to
select the TO5FJ or PJ7X label under QSLs/Print QSL label instead
of modifying each time I change logs.

  Any idea ?

  Hi Folks,

I've put another test version of the DX4WIN Data Updater on my web
site. I think this version will update itself so you don't have to
move any files by hand. The program will still exit after downloading
the .EXE file, then you just restart the program and you should have
  the new version.

I have tested it on Windows XP *only*. I really need someone to test
it on Vista and/or Windows 7 (and any other Windows versions besides
XP). Please follow these instructions exactly. Read them all the way
  through once before doing anything:

  1. Make sure you are running the current DX4WIN Data Updater version
4.5. If you are running an *older* data updater (4.4 or earlier), you
can skip steps 2 and 3 below, but *ONLY* if you have not yet updated
  to 4.5.

  2. Download the September 12 release (version 4.4). To test the
change, we need an older version to update.

  http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/download/dx4wupd_20110912.zip

  3. Open that .ZIP file and extract only dx4wupd.exe to your
DX4W###\UPDATE directory, allowing it to over-write the existing file
  if one is already there.

  4. Download the new updater from:

  http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/download/dx4wupd_46b_20111207.zip

  5. Open that .ZIP file and extract only dx4wupd.exe to your DX4W###
directory, allowing it to over-write the existing file if one is
  already there.

  6. Check the file properties on the two files you downloaded and
extracted (right-click on the file, choose Properties):

 DX4W###\UPDATE\dx4wupd.exe should be dated 12 September 2011

 DX4W###\dx4wupd.exe should be dated 7 December 2011 with a
 latish-timestamp

  7. If all looks OK, run the updater program in your DX4W###
directory. You should see this banner:

 DX4WIN Data Updater - Version 4.6b
 Jim Reisert, AD1C - 07 December 2011 22:22:27

It should ask you if you want to stop and update dx4wupd.exe.
Answer Y(es). If it doesn't ask you, start back at step #1 above.

  8. Let the update complete. Ignore the message about copying the
file, and simply exit the updater.

  9. Start the updater again from the same place as #7 above. If the
update successfully updated itself, it will report the last released
  version at the top:

 DX4WIN Data Updater - Version 4.5
 Jim Reisert, AD1C - 07 December 2011 03:57:27

You should also *not* be prompted to update the updater program again.

  10. You may find a dx4wupd.~xe file in your DX4W### directory. This
is the old updater that was replaced. You can delete it if you wish,
but you'll get another one the next time you update. I'm pretty sure
the updater can't delete this file itself.

Please let me know how successful you were. I would like to release
this along with the IOTA update fix.

  Thanks 73 - Jim AD1C

p.s. I thought this couldn't be done (updating a .EXE file while it
was running), but I discovered a trick while browsing for an answer.

Re: [Dx4win] Group number question

2011-03-13 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi Ron,

This is an easy problem. Use the Filter Search function - F8. Then type
the Group number of the QSOs you want to move and hit return. Now you have
a subset of your log containing only the QSOs with that Group number. You
can now export them (File, Export, pick a format, then in the Filter Window,
File, Export) and do whatever you'd like.

BTW, I wish I knew you were in Brenda - I've gone through there a hundred
times, and did again just last weekend. We'll have an eyeball one of these
days.

Subject: [Dx4win] Group number question

Hi All,

I just joined the list to learn how to use DX4Win.

I have a small log that I started when I did a SE station using a different
call than mine. So far so good...

But then I added about 30 or so contacts to that log when I didn't want them

there! So now it has QSO's that should be there and QSO's that should not
be there. All those that need to be moved have their own group number.File

I can't find any way to only save or export that one group of QSO's.

Can that be done or must I do it all manually?

Thanks,

OK, back in my hole,

Kirk,

Have you ever made any changes to the rig control files? I changed the baud
rate in the rig control file (in 8.04) and when I updated to 8.05, I didn't
copy the new rig control file, so the radio didn't work. Good luck.

I upgrade to 8.04 I also switched PC's.

Pulled all ini files etc to new PC all is working well...rotor controls,
internet etc. Where I'm running into conflict is in the radio control.

Let me preface this by saying the rig control is working as it should in
all other programs I use. Writelog, MMTTY..etc

What is happening is this...WHILE I tune the radios frequency knob...The
cursor blinks and freq reads as it should. If I STOP tuning..cursor
stops blinking and radio times out.

I made NO changes to the rig settings and as a stated I used the ini
file from my other pc.

Anyone with some thoughts?

Re: [Dx4win] QSL label marking question

2011-01-11 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Loren,

If you set the filter for only unconfirmed QSOs, does that get you what you
want?

Hit F8 and then put an N in the CNFM box in the log entry window
(depending on whether you want to count LoTW and e-QSL, you may need to put
in 3 Ns). Then hit Enter. That will select only the unconfirmed QSOs and
you can mark them for QSL.

Now that I have my log all in DX4WIN8.04 I see there are many QSOs that I
have not sent for needed bands or modes. So I went to set the QSL flag but
didn't want to touch each field manually. I can't get things to work the way
I would expect by following the help screen but I did find a way.

When I try (as the help screen states) QSL -- Mark QSL it wants to select
every QSO in the log, confirmed or not. Yikes! it's a good thing I read the
dialog box carefully.

When I try Reports -- Mark For QSL it seams to work fine and mark only
those that are worked but not confirmed.

Do I have something set wrong, do I have some preference set wrong or is
this a bug?

Hi George
You have to close your log, go to Files/Database/QSL managers.
There you delete your wrong entry.
Save changes, open your log again, select the QSO and now you can enter
the right manager.
The manager database will be updated properly.

Re: [Dx4win] Working with LoTW

2011-01-08 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi Charlie,

Unfortunately, you have found at least one of those updating areas.

For vers. 8, if you want your default QSO to be entered with the LoTW Upload
flagged checked (that is, every QSO will be uploaded to LoTW), you should go
to Preferences, QSO and check the LoTW box under Label/Upl Flag.

If you only want some QSOs to be uploaded, you can do that several ways.
You can set a date filter (pick a date range), or filter by all JA QSOs, or
whatever, then under the LoTW menu, select Set LoTW Upload Flag. Once you
have the flags set, you can select LoTW, Export for LoTW and follow the
steps in the program.

Good luck.

you would also have to select FFMA from the Custom Award field, and then
select the same grid AGAIN in the Custom Award Value field.

If this is acceptable to people (and would work with older versions of

Callsign Alert blank

This should give me a voice announcement for any Priority 1/2/3 spot.

I get very few Priority 1/2 spots, but lots of Priority 3 (New Band) spots,

[Dx4win] Invalid QSO Counted for Award

2010-11-15 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
After generating a 6M WAS Submission report, I found a couple of cards that
wouldn't pass the checker's scrutiny. So to keep them from being included
in the Submission, I put an I in the box representing the Band and WAS
awards at the bottom of the main log window. However, the program continued
to count those QSOs toward the award - changing the I to an S. I
eventually worked around the problem by changing the confirmation to No,
generating the Submission report and then changing it back (I will
eventually need it for grid squares). Doesn't the I stand for Invalid
and shouldn't it prevent that QSO from being used for the appropriate
awards? Is there an easier way to do this? I don't want to spend the time
checking, but does it work the same way with DXCC?

Thanks and 73,

Re: [Dx4win] Fw: Creating New Log from Existing Log

2010-09-27 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Fred,

I am going to disagree with Dave (which I can do, because we go back to
before the beginning of time) and suggest that you create a new Selection.
You can do this in the Filter menu. You will want to enter the date of your
move to AZ and then check both Group Filter and Date Filter. This gives you
the advantages that Dave described, but allows you to add Groups within your
new Selection, so you can keep track of contests or other operations that
have occurred or will occur since you moved. Everything else Dave says is
correct. But the use of the Selection makes the group function even more
powerful.

BTW, the default Selection is All QSOs. When you choose that one, your
reports will be based on every QSO in the log. If you make a new Selection,
when you choose it, your reports will only be based on the QSOs in that
Selection. It is very easy to compare your new AZ results with your overall
results. I did this when I moved to AZ from CA a few years ago.

Fred,

I would create a group within your log for you new QTH. Just go to Filter,
Selection and create a new Group Filter. That way you can see all the
contacts with a given call that you made prior to AZ as well as from your
new QTH. This is especially handy if you keep the Same Call and Logbook
windows open when using DX4WIN. The Same Call window shows the group name
for every contact. You can rename groups to make them easier to recall.
Just to go Filter, Edit Group Names. You might want to name the new group
Arizona. You can make the AZ group your default group by selecting its
group number by going to File, Preference and QSO. See group in upper
right
 corner.

You will find that the group functions within DX4WIN are very powerful and
easy to use. Others may know of other ways to use and refer to groups.

Re: [Dx4win] Group question

2010-06-23 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
John,

If you want the group you added (by changing the group number in Preferences)
to show up in Edit Group Names, you must add it, by doing Filter, Group Names,
Add. You can change the name at this point also, but note that after you
change the name, you must click on Change. Once you have done that, you can
add that group to a Selection by going to the selection you want to add it to,
finding the new group number, double-clicking on the new group number (this
will add an x to the left of the group number) and then clicking Update.

In my opinion, the use of Selections, in addition to the group numbering, is an
extremely powerful tool within DX4Win, allowing you to separate QSOs from
various locations easily. Personally, I think Arne's log groupings would be
accomplished much better by using Selections - this would allow further
separation (e.g. for contests) within each Selection. But it is all personal
preference...

that group. When I total the number of QSOs I selected in FILTER (group) of
the 4 groups I get the total number of QSOs in my log. That tells me the filter
function by groups is working properly.

Not sure what you mean by illogical fashion. I defined my needs for groups and
the log does sort (filter) by those needs, in otherwords, my groups.

I have my entire log for N7KA going back to June 1978 is entered into DX4WIN.
Group 0 identiined as all QSOs prior to 01 JAN1983 (the date that VUCC
started). I lived in Tucson, AZ in 01 JAN 1983 so have defined Group 1 by the
6 digit grid square I was living and operating from. Group 2 is defined by my
current 6 digit grid square beginning 24 FEB, 1985. Group 3 is defined as the
grid square I operated portable on 6M Sunday 20 June 2010. They all sort
properly when I select FILTER and enter the group number.

At start-up my correct group 2 is displayed in the QSO WINDOW GROUP box. (that
is what I have set as default) If I change and SAVE the group number in the
FILE|PREFERENCES|QSO group box, this becomes the group number displayed in the
QSO WINDOW upon starting the program. You MUST do QSO|Real-time after the
program is booted to set the program to begin logging for the day, otherwise
you get data from the last QSO entered in your log. BTW all 4 of my groups do
come up at start if I have defined a group as the default.

l also keep my group number and description written on paper and stored in my
manual as backup; group number description, date range, and any other info I
determine is relevant.

When I set the group to 0 in the preferences and then go to real time
entry the group is 0 so I cant reproduce your result for that one.
If I set the group in preferences to a group not previously set up and go to
real time entry it does come up as the group set and will log it as such.
As a consequence after that if I go to Filter|Edit Group Names the new
group generated this way does not show up in the list and am not being able
to use Filter|Select to find that QSO, it can be searched for by using F8.
Since F8 search can be used it can be set to another group using
 QSO|Multiple QSO Operations.
So other than being able to do something in an illogical fashion it would
seem to be function ok. If I want to have a new group of QSO's I have
always generated the new group by using the Filter|Edit Group Names function
before logging or importing a QSO to that group in my log.
As a aside note I don't log any QSO's to group 0, start from group 1 then
you will be able to do a group filter search for any and or all QSO's in the
log. 0 is a group of everything, including itself, a group of all groups
 if you like.

Re: [Dx4win] Import Abort - Duplicate QSO's

2010-05-02 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi Jim,

Grid boundaries are allowed, but the rules are a bit excessive (my opinion).
See
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Awards%20Application%20Forms/VUCCRULE1a.pdf .
I did this a couple times last summer and actually posted little movies of
my set up and zooming in to the GPS showing the XX.000 display. Of course,
by the time you set up, the GPS location is different, but that's just me
whining. Grid boundaries are not allowed in the ARRL VHF contest - you can
only exchange 1 grid.

I'm not sure that grid lines count for VUCC. I think you have to be
INSIDE the grid. I've never heard of a rover operating from a line,
but I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time).

Never had this happen before because in a contest when I am in a run
mode I always work dupes. Contest software counts them as zero so
it doesn't matter. Never dupe in SP. N1MM software.

This contest I only worked abt 100 Q's so I can easily remove the 6
or 8 county line dupes, but in a major contest... I really don't see the
need to 'abort' an import due to dupes. Maybe a yes or no to proceed
 but not abort...

 Hi Art,

How did you log the call and QTH?  What version of DX4WIN are you using?

If the QSOs are the same *except* for the County, I believe that
DX4WIN 8.0x will NOT think they are duplicates.

Have you tried running this program on your log to convert the contest
abbreviations to real ADIF county names?

  http://software.ad1c.us/ADIF_County/

In fact, this program will create two QSOs out of the county line, and
will add 1 second to the second QSO.

I have about 6 stations with 2 QSO's each on the

 What to do...

Could change the calls in the ADIF file and then change

[Dx4win] Window Size Creep

2010-01-17 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
I seem to remember someone having this problem, but I've Googled myself
silly and can't find anything. I am using version 8.03 with a new
installation on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. Every time I restore the
program from being minimized, the windows that are variable in size have
gotten slightly smaller. I don't seem to have this problem with any other
programs and I never had it on other computers. Does anyone have a
suggestion?
