[Dx4win] Updating DX4WIN 805 today using DXupdater -- problem with clubllog

2018-03-01 Thread Chaz Cone
I keep copies of DX4Win on my office computer and on my hamshack computer
(just in case). I updated today based on Jim’s email.

Updating the office computer went fine, but failed on one file on the hamshack
machine. The error is:

Internal error
HttpSendRequest failed error - 12157
Internal error loading the SSL libraries.
http://www.clublog.org/clublog.scp.zip

I’ve updated successfully in the past.

Is this a Clublog woe? And, if so, it worked fine on my office copy of DX4WIN.

Ideas?

Maybe the fix is something like if the file on the web sit differs

updating. I hadn't thought of this as a possible solution until
right now. This means if I release updates, they must be more then

[Dx4win] Intgegrating VE7CC CC User with DX4WIN

2011-12-10 Thread Chaz Cone
A week ago I posted a help request here trying to find a way to use a
cluster's sh/dx command to honor the filters I'd laboriously set up. Among the
helpful responses I received was that DX spider and VE7CC supper the
show/mydx command which works like show/dx except that it honors the
filters. Hooray!

A number of folks on this reflector wrote and asked that if I solved this
problem, they'd like to know how.

I wrote a white paper Integrating VE7CC CC User with DX4WIN and sent it out
to those folks. Someone said I should publish it more widely, so I have.

The document is presently in version 1.2 and is a work in progress. You can
download it from here:

www.w4gkf.com/dxcluster

If you use it and have comments or criticisms I'd love to hear from you off
list.

I hope this helps folks.

Happy Holidays!

[Dx4win] Packet cluster question - sorry, it may be bit long

2011-12-07 Thread Chaz Cone
Like many of us, I learned some years ago just enough cluster commands to get
by.

Recently, I decided to tailor my internet cluster connections to give me
exactly what I want -- and I learned a lot with hours of Google research. I
now have it working (almost) exactly the way I want.

What I want is:

To receive spots only from the US and Canada
To receive DX spots only from surrounding states (I live in Georgia)
To receive DX spots only for the bands and modes for which I'm active
To receive DX spots only for the ARRL entities that I need; that is, those for
whom I've not received a paper QSL

It took a lot of research and experimentation to get this working perfectly --
but I did it! If you'd like to see my commands (as examples), email me off
list and I'll send them to you.

After you sign on to a cluster in DX4WIN, you can send the cluster commands to
the cluster and it will remember them. If you use more than one cluster, just
send the commands to each.

All spots incoming real-time are processed through the filters just fine; I
only see the ones I want.

Here's my question. Even after you've established your filters on a cluster,
typing show/dx ignores your filters and shows the most recent spots. Is there
a command that will show/dx through my filters?

If not it seems a very strange omission from the command structure.

I've broken my pick on this one :(

[Dx4win] DXCC needed report question

Folks, I have a puzzle. I was checking my
unsubmitted QSLs today against my country total

have a proper band mode, date, time, prefix and Confirmed =Y marked.

Any idea why they would be ignored by the DXCC

[Dx4win] Bugs I reported in 7.02

2006-06-08 Thread Chaz Cone, W4GKF
DX4Win-ers:

I thought I'd pass these along so others might not redundantly send them in.

These are observed and easily reproduced in 7.02; they were present
in 6.x as well.

1) Preferences/Ext Data

If you use Website callsign lookup you must put something in both
the Callsign lookup address field AND the QSL manager lookup
address field. If you don't, pressing F3, Enter from the QSO window
does nothing.

Here's the way this is supposed to work (according to the User Guide) :

If the field with focus in the QSO window is ANYTHING OTHER THAN the
QSL manager field, pressing F3 followed by Enter is supposed to do a
callsign lookup on the website you chose in the Preferences/Ext
Data/Callsign lookup address box.

If the field with focus in the QSO window IS QSL manager, pressing F3
followed by Enter is supposed to do a QSL manager lookup on the
website you chose in Preferences/Ext Data/QSL manager lookup address.

It doesn't work that way.

In my case, I used http://www.qrz.com for the Callsign lookup and
http://www.qrz.com/callsign?qsl= in the QSL manager lookup (as
instructed in both the online help and the User Guide).

There are two problems: No matter where the field focus is in the
QSO window, pressing F3 and Enter always goes to the QSL manager
lookup address. Paradox: If you only want to do a Callsign lookup,
you can never do a Manager lookup because you must put
http://www.qrz.com/ in BOTH the Callsign lookup box AND the QSL
manager lookup box.

The workaround is to put http://www.qrz.com/ in both the Callsign and
QSL manager lookup boxes. If you do that, at least F3, Enter does
the callsign lookup.

And, while I'm whining, I asked that the F3 followed by Enter be
changed to just F3. The Enter keypress shouldn't be necessary.

2. Country Window position (dual monitor setup)

When you ask that DX4WIN remember window position by
Preferences/Screen and using the Leave all windows in original
position checkbox, it does not affect the Country window. No matter
where you move it to, when you exit it comes back to the middle of
the left-hand screen (approximately). Note:this only behaves as
described on my dual monitor setup.

And, while whining, the wording for the checkbox should be Leave all
windows where they are on exit.

Just tryin' to help..

Chaz, W4GKF

[Dx4win] I'm embarrassed to ask for help.

2006-06-04 Thread Chaz Cone, W4GKF
I'm the original RTFM guy and, as a software developer for more
than 40 years (yes, 40 years), I pride myself on being able to figure
out how software works even without the book.

After a many-year hiatus from ham radio activity, I got back on the
air a couple of years ago. Asking about logging software, I was
advised that DX4WIN was the way to go so I bought a license and off I went.

Since I didn't opt for the CD (shame on me, I guess) I didn't get the
user guide. I'm presently running 6.04 and it fundamentally meets my
(pretty meager) needs.

But several things don't work intuitively for me and I've been
digging through the built-in help to avoid having to display my
ignorance by asking what should be a simple question here. But,
today, my frustration got the better of me.

Let's start with the easy one.

I have the program up and see my logbook window which contains all my Qs.

According to the help, in the QSO window if I press F8 to define a
search and type (for example) K1* in the callsign window, the logbook
window should change and show me only those Qs for callsigns
beginning with K1. It does not. Instead I get a No matching QSO
found and the chime. I have perhaps 50 or more callsigns in the log
starting with K1 so I don't know what's wrong.

This should be quite a simple thing but it doesn't work for me.

I've tried it with other configurations of search criteria, nothing
works for me.
It's like some index isn't present or something.

I'll stop now and accept the laughter and scorn; what am I doing wrong?

Chaz, W4GKF

My question was why the callsign lookup didn't work with wild cards.
The reason was that I had se the QSO search preference to exact

The other extra answer was to my complaint about not having
