[Dx4win] Timeout issue

2012-03-13 Thread David M. Monfried
Just to be clear, the timeout issue that many of us have been bemoaning
relates to the CAT connection between computer and radio.so that if you
click on a spot, the radio will jump to the spotted station's frequency and
mode. It's a long-standing issue for many users, one that many users have
noted for years on this reflector, with no resolution in sight. A couple of
fellow users emailed me their theory: DX4WIN (may?) require frequent
confirmation of frequency and mode, rather than just follow commands to
change frequency and mode. I don't know, but I do hope that Paul addresses
this in a future major update. As I said earlier, DX4WIN's inability to hold
the connection stands in stark contrast to the N1MM logger, HRD, and other
programs that provide CAT control.

[Dx4win] Time-out issue

2012-03-11 Thread David M. Monfried
Unfortunately, program connection timeout has been a continuing DX4WIN issue
(for me, at least - with a wide variety of versions, radios, and computers).
It's annoying but there's apparently not much that can be done about it (I
know, I know: 500 people will jump on this and say, I've never once had had
a timeout problem). It was brought home to me again during the recent SSB
DX contest, when the N1MM contest logger stayed connected all weekend
without a hiccup. Frequently reconnecting is a small price to pay for an
otherwise rock-solid, versatile program.

I am trying to use radio CAT control using DX4WIN and Flex 5K. Windows 7
with vspMGR 1.0.3.01 serial pair com 14 and 15. All works fine except radio
interface keeps timing out every few minutes.

Tried uping retries all the way to 20 and poll rate from 500-5000 ms.
nothing seems to work.

Using PowerSDR 2.3.5

[Dx4win] Question re DX4WIN, PSDR, and RTTY

2011-12-16 Thread David M. Monfried
Knowledgeable Lou, N2TU, came up with the answer. I'm reposting his dead-on
response with his permission (he does want it noted that it's just a stab
in the dark, but it worked for me).

Thanks, Lou!

Dave, W2PK

Dave

In the DX4WIN rigs filethere are these settings

[MODES]

AM=5;5;N

CW=3,7;3,7;N

FM=4;4;N

RTTY=6,9;6,9;N

SSB=1,2;1,2;N

Without having a Flex, I would assume if you change RTTY from 6,9; to 9,6 it
will go into the DIGU

You can copy the existing FLEX file, rename it to FLEX-Test, change the
Modes, RTTY settings...save it in the Rigs file within DX4WIN...then select
FLEX-TEST in the Radio preferences to see if it works..

Again, the above is an' educated' guess without having a Flex in front of
me

Good Luck

[Dx4win] Timeout issue

2011-04-21 Thread David M. Monfried
Guy, ON4AOI, and others asked for details about my operating system. Running
Win7/64 bit on a bootcamped Mac (Bootcamp is how I run Windows on a Mac OS).
Computer is an iMac desktop with the tower built into the screen. There
are no serial ports on the computer, just several USB ports.

I'm using a Flex 5000A and connect to it to the iMac via Firewire. But the
timeout issued occurred even when I was using an IC-7800, with its own DB9

Re: [Dx4win] Compare DX4WIN to LoTW version 4.1 - 3 April 2011

2011-04-03 Thread David M. Monfried
The amount of time and work that Jim devotes to support for DX4WIN is just

I have updated the utility to compare your DX4WIN DXCC credits with
ARRL Logbook of the World:  You can download version 4.1 from:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

This version fixes a small change that ARRL made on the LoTW web site.

[Dx4win] CW Keyboard

2011-01-27 Thread David M. Monfried
My thanks to all those who responded.your interest and assistance are much
appreciated!

I did finally manage to get the CW keyboard working.all I needed to do was
use the same comm port as that used by Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) for PTT. That
won't be a problem, since HRD and DX4WIN's CW keyboard will not be running
simultaneously. (But I do have to shut down the computer after using the
keyboard to get the comm port released for HRD. No big deal.)

Thanks again. As usual, the responses were fast and pointed me right to the
solution.

[Dx4win] WAZ window bug?

2010-02-09 Thread David M. Monfried
I'm seeing something that's apparently not quite right: I have a 2008 log
entry for VU2NKS on 20m RTTY. The Q was confirmed by LoTW, and the LoTW
Cnfm box is therefore marked as Y. There was no paper QSL involved. And
VU2NKS is my only confirmed Q on 20m RTTY.

However, in the WAZ window 20m DIG is marked with an M. (The DXCC window
is correctly marked with a C in 20m DIG.) The only way I can change the
M to a C in the WAZ window is by changing the Label Cnfm from N to
Y. Something's not right here. Bug?

[Dx4win] PSK31 - how to transmit?

2010-01-12 Thread David M. Monfried
Searched the archives but could not find the answer to this simple(?)
problem - I'm unable to key the IC7800 using the PSK31 function in DX4WIN
7.05.04. I am able to decode signals, but can't figure out what I'm doing
wrong on transmit. Here's the set-up:

IC7800 + Navigator (in file/Preferences/Control, tried both Default Sound
Card and Cards 0 and 1 in PSK Sound Card).

Presently control radio via com port 7; tried Stop Radio and using com port
7 ( PSK31 window/ Alt+S /TX/com 7, then tried PTT and VOX). Nothing.

Control SteppIr antenna via Remote jack on IC7800.

Successfully use HRD with DM780 - but give up DX4WIN control of rig to HRD
when I want to operate RTTY or PSK31.that's why I'd like to get the PSK31
function going on DX4WIN.

I assume I'm missing something elementary - a cable connection or software
setting. If I have to add a PTT connection, I don't see where it would
terminate on the radio.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

[Dx4win] Odd Dialog Box issue

2008-01-21 Thread David M. Monfried
A new, very odd problem has developed with my Save As and Open dialog

When I select File/Save As File/Open, then click the down arrow in the Save

Thanks to Les Kalmus, W2LK, for his workaround that helps resolve some of

[Dx4win] Small problems with label printing

2007-02-10 Thread David M. Monfried
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing these small, but bothersome,
problems in ver 7.02.15:

1. Labels/Print QSL Labels: DX4WIN does not remember that I've checked the
boxes, Print QSL Managers and Print Method Labels.

2. Print/Destination/Preview: Cannot print from that page. I've pressed the
printer button in the program's header and I've tried File/Print. Nada.

3. Labels/Print QSL Labels/Edit: Both the Callsign font and Body font say
Arial, even though I've selected Slashed Zero Arial for both. When I
double-click on the box, and when I print labels, the correct font is used.

If I'm doing something wrong, or overlooking a setting, please let me know!

[Dx4win] IC-7800

2007-01-04 Thread David M. Monfried
Looking for some help getting DX4WIN (7.02) to play nice with my IC-7800.

Settings in DX4WIN appear to be correct (using the IC-7800's pull-down menu
in DX4WIN; address: 6A; baud rate: 9600; COM Port: 7; Poll Rate: 5000; DTR
and RTS boxes: both checked). I know the Comm Port is correct, as I can
occasionally get the IC-7800 to change frequency to a spot, but then only if
I click repeatedly. The radio does not time out on this comm port or these
settings. Finally, DX4WIN is not reading the 7800's frequency or mode.

FWIW, no problem controlling the IC-7000 or the FT-817.

Any ideas?

[Dx4win] IC-7800 and DX4WIN

2007-01-04 Thread David M. Monfried
My thanks to all who replied. I believe the problem is with the script for
the IC-7800.

To get the radio and DX4WIN to work together properly, I had to select
another ICOM radio from the drop-down list (I used the IC-765) and, of
course, change the address to 6A. As soon as I did that, everything worked
perfectly.

Ted, W4CID, who modified the ICOM script for the IC-7800, was kind enough to
call me today to discuss thie issue. He, too, is baffled.

Has anyone else had problems controlling the IC-7800 using the DX4WIN 7800
script?

Thanks.

Dave

P.S. In addition, I had to ditch the Remote connection and connect via the
RS-232 connection on the IC-7800.

Device Manager says the adapter is working properly as COM9. The
problem is that DX4WIN only goes up to Comm8. Any ideas would be
appreciated! Thanks.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN wish list

2002-04-08 Thread David M. Monfried
I've just finished the arduous task of submitting 775 QSLs for various DXCC
awards and one change in the Submission feature would have made the job MUCH
easier: Would it be possible for the Submission sort to be by Prefix (in
DX4WIN language, that's DXCC Entity) order, rather than by Callsign? As an
example, the card for 3E1DX would appear under HP Panama, rather than under
3E1.

For those of us who file cards in country order, this change would make
pulling those cards for DXCC submissions more efficient (if still not
pleasurable!).
