Re: [Dx4win] Simple LOTW Search

2018-03-28 Thread David Tingler
Guy,

I think you are right, the DX Spots member list is a great feature. However, it
indicates whether a station is an LOTW user but not if they actively use LOTW.
Over half (58%) of all LOTW users have not uploaded QSO data in the past year
and more than 25% have not uploaded in the last five years. The search provides
a convenient way to view a station's last upload date which can be helpful in
deciding whether to send a card or wait for lotw confirmation. Also, it does
not require an XML subscription. Just an example.

[Dx4win] Simple LOTW Search

2018-03-26 Thread David Tingler

The ARRL makes available a list of all LOTW users, along with the date of their
last upload. I wrote a simple batch file to search the list and display the
results in DX4WIN when the F3 key is pressed. I thought some of you might find
this useful.

1. Download the LOTW User Activity report from:
https://lotw.arrl.org/lotw-user-activity.csv and save it in a directory
accessible to DX4WIN. I put mine in a subdirectory of the DX4WIN SAVE directory
I called SEARCH.

2. Create a batch file with Notepad containing the text below and put it in the
same directory where you saved the activity report. I called my batch file
SEARCH.BAT.

@echo off
set call=%1
set result=Not Found
for /f "tokens=1-3 delims=," %%a in (lotw-user-activity.csv) do (
if /i "%%a"=="%call%" set result=%%b
 )
echo %call% %result%

3. In DX4WIN Preferences, enable the QSL Manager Search (.exe) check box on the
External Data panel and fill in the edit box with the path to your batch file.
I have mine set to C:\DX4W903\SAVE\SEARCH\SEARCH.BAT. You will get an error
when you press F3 if the path is incorrect.

You can add other searches to your batch file using something like the Windows
FINDSTR or a GREP implementation. I have used this method to search member and
bureau lists in the past.

Here is an example of the output generated by the F3 key. The first part is
from the QRZ XML service and only the last two lines pertain to the search
batch file.

W1AW
ARRL HQ OPERATORS CLUB
225 MAIN ST
NEWINGTON, CT 06111
United States
QSL Info: US STATIONS PLEASE QSL VIA LOTW OR DIRECT WITH SASE.
State: CT
County: Hartford
GRID: FN31pr
QSL info from: C:\DX4W903\SAVE\SEARCH\SEARCH.BAT
W1AW 2018-03-09

The date is replaced with "Not Found" if the station is not found in the
activity report. I don't think you will have any problem with these
instructions. As always, I can't be responsible if anything bad happens.

[Dx4win] eQSL comments

2009-08-31 Thread David Tingler
Hello DX4WIN'ers,

The eQSL system will add a comment such as Thanks for the QSO to an eQSL
card if it appears in the ADIF file as QSL_Comment or QSLMSG. Is there a way
to get DX4WIN V8 to add this? I thought I would ask before I do it manually
with search and replace or something like that.

Thanks,

David - N5DT

[Dx4win] QSL Labels - Customize??

2005-05-31 Thread David Tingler

I just spent a couple of hours pouring through the manual and help and
can't find a way to include the Notes for this QSO on the label.
Does anyone know of a way to do that?? I can include the Notes for
this Call but not for the QSO.

Tom,

I first requested this feature on version 4 and all of the versions since.
It doesn't appear to have been added to version 7 either. I am still
hopeful. It would be a big help to those of us who can't see to write notes
on a card.

[Dx4win] Cabrillo and v6.04

2005-03-18 Thread David Tingler
Mark,

I posted this question a few days ago and I received a very helpful response
that came through private email. There are two programs available DX2ADIF
and ADIF2CBR that will do this for you. The first will take the DX4WIN ADIF
and output a new ADIF with the frequency field included. It cleverly
extracts it from the notes field. The second will create the Cabrillo file
from the new ADIF. Here is the web site, click on Converters:

Hope this helps.

[Dx4win] Printing QSL Cards

2005-03-10 Thread David Tingler
Hello All,

I have mentioned this before but I need to print some of my QSL cards with
QSO specific notes. I still don't know if this is being considered as a new
feature. I wish someone at DX4WIN would let me know.

In the mean time, does anyone know of a good QSL card printing program or
other logging program that I could use to print some of my contacts with
notes? I am visually impaired so hand writing the additional information is
not a good solution.

Thanks for your help.

[Dx4win] Multiport Board

2002-06-05 Thread David Tingler
Hello,

I checked the archive but, could not find the previous discussion on
multiport boards. I would appreciate any recommendations for a PCI multiport
com board for use with DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] Country Database

2002-03-03 Thread David Tingler
Hello List,

It seems that the country list that came with 5.03 may not be up to date.
Does someone have a list of the changes that need to be made to update it?
