Agree, and the error is also in Windows 11 and Firefox version 102, 64 bit.

This appears to be a problem with the way Firefox and LoTW talk to each
other.

First thing I checked was to make sure the Windoze setting "Hide extensions
for known file types" was still unchecked. It is.

Downloading an .ADI file from Clublog shows the .ADI extension.
Downloading an .ADI with MS Edge (Win10) or Safari (IOS) shows the .ADI
extension.
Downloading files from other sites with Firefox shows the proper file
extensions.

Now looking at Firefox release notes and settings to see if I can find out
what has changed. This just started with a recent Firefox update and I
cannot figure out how to go back to an earlier version of FF for testing.

In the grand scheme of things, it's trivial to type in .ADI when downloading
the report. The trouble is remembering to do it.

Hello Larry,

There are better tools for tracking FFMA. When you use one of the custom
awards in dx4win, you must first tell the program to apply a QSO to a custom
award. So, for every 6m QSO, you would need to go back and fill in the
Custom Award (FFMA) and Custom Award Value (grid square) for each QSO
individually.

W7GJ has a tracking program on his web site: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/
and KV5W maintains an on line database for FFMA chasers. Info on his QRZ
page. These are probably the most convenient tools to use.

[Dx4win] FW: Global Removal of LCnf Status?

2019-11-01 Thread Larry Burke
Just want to close the loop on this one. I received an off-reflector note
from Mel, SM0MPV, telling me how to perform the change I asked about in my
original note. His solution was spot-on and much appreciated.

For the sake of anyone else who may one day be searching the archives with a
similar problem, the solution is as follows:

1. Access FILTER --> SEARCH (F8) in the QSO window
2. Enter the start date in the date field (you will be prompted for end
date when enter is pressed)
3. Press ENTER
4. In the LoTW pulldown menu (also in the QSO window) select CLEAR LoTW
CONFIRMED.

I never even knew this menu item existed. I probably read about it in the
manual at one point, but it's a case of never needing it before and doing
the same 'ol thing the same 'ol way for too long. There are undoubtedly
features on my rig and household appliances I don't know about as well - but
I still feel stupid after seeing how easy this was.

Now if I only knew what I did to mess the log up in the first place.

Re: [Dx4win] Import FT-8 file to DX4WIN

2018-07-24 Thread Larry Burke
There may be other ways, but here's what I do.

In DX4WIN:

*   File > Import/Export
* In the window that opens select "ADIF"
*   File > Import
* Navigate to where your "wsjt_log.adi" file is located and select it
* When pop-up window asks how to handle duplicate QSOs select
"Imported QSO is Ignored", then OK

That should bring your WSJT-X QSOs into DX4WIN without duplicating QSOs that
are already there.

I'd also suggest using the latest version of WSJT-X (1.9.1). There are
important improvements, including the ability to run fox/hound in the
DXPedition mode.

Hi,

My mind has wandered somewhat. I used to be able to import an FT8 file
simply by copying the.adi log file from WSJT 1.8.2 to a flash drive and then
importing it to DX4WIN 9.04. When I tried this today, the import file just
hangs and I get error messages. Is there a more efficient way to do this? I
seem to recall some previous methods put on this reflector, but I must have
deleted them.

Any help?

Re: [Dx4win] K1N

Rich... if you keep your .cty file up to date DX4WIN should recognize K1N as
Navassa automatically. If you have an old .cty file you can use the F1 key
in the Prefix field and select Navassa. I would not recommend logging as
KP1/K1N as you will not get a match should you ever upload to LoTW.

when I try to convert the actual adi file from LoTW Windows gives me a
message that says lotw2csv.exe has stopped working. It creates a zero byte
file with a csv extension in the process.

Does anyone who uses lotw2csv have any suggestions as to what I may be doing
wrong?

Is there an easy way to convert the DXCC QSL Download adif file from the

Re: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with LaserJet printer

2011-02-27 Thread Larry Burke
Dave, I print directly to the non-glossy back of a photo card with no
problems. The printer is an HP LaserJet P2015d. I prepared a how-to document
to show how to set up DX4WIN to do the printing (spacing, etc) if you are
interested.

Subject: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with LaserJet printer

My Dymo label printer recently went on the blink, so I am experimenting with
printing cards directly from my HP LaserJet 2035n printer. I am wondering
if anyone has had any success printing cards with a LaserJet. I am finding
that the printed text is not adhering to the card and tends to flake off. I
have two types of QSL cards -- one glossy finish and the other a more normal
card stock type finish. Both seem to have the same problem. I can print
the QSL on to regular copy paper and the text adheres just fine. So I am
thinking it has something to do with the thickness of the card stock that
does not allow the card to roll through the printer evenly enough to get a
good heat seal on the toner.

I may have to revert to printing out sheets of labels in the LaserJet. BTW,
I have noticed that the labels that I printed from the Dymo Label printer
tend to fade over several years time. Thus, I do not want to go back to the
Dymo printer. I need to find something that printers more permanently. I
was hoping the my LaserJet might do that directly on the card stock. But so
far no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Dx4win] APC Battery back-up UPS on sale

Thanks for the tip, Jim. Pretty good prices.

I have been using the larger APC (Back-UPS XS 1500 watt). Worked great
until I bought a new Dell. Now the PC dies every time there is a voltage
dip. Everything else on the UPS makes it through an outage just fine. This
model puts out a stepped sine wave. Wonder if that has anything to do with
it. Anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

Hi Larry,

I just re-read your message. There is no need to Stop Radio. All you
have to do is make sure your logging window is on the last logged
(saved) QSO, i.e. you are not in Add Real-time (F9) mode. You will
only get the radio timeout message if you're trying to log a QSO!

I run DX4WIN 24/7 and turn my radio on and off at will. I never leave
it in F9 (Add Real-time) mode and NEVER have the problem you describe.
And I have the original microKEYER.

Some strange things with the CW totals, too, but I haven't dug into that

getting the label to print in the correct spot (which, in my case, is

with things before I find the right location. The more serious issue is
that the ink from my laser printer (HP P2015d) doesn't seem to want to
stick to the QSL card. I'm using an inexpensive W4MPY stock card for the
trials, but have also used a sample from the QSL Shop. I am wondering if
there is a coating on these cards prohibiting the ink from adhering. The
card also creates a paper jam if it is placed in the printer in an
orientation perpendicular to the envelope feed direction.

I've had a few requests to elaborate on the details of printing directly on

interest to others. Drop me an e-mail if you'd like a copy (MS Word
document).

There are several ways to skin this cat; my write-up describes one of them.
Also note that what I have documented only eliminates the label, it does not
fill-in-the-blanks on a QSO box that is pre-printed on a commercially
produced QSL card.

[Dx4win] LoTW Question

2008-02-27 Thread Larry Burke

I vaguely remember the following problem being discussed before, but do not
recall the final resolution and can't seem to find the answer in the
archives.

I upload/download to LoTW a few times a year, so I am by no means a power
user. Today I noticed that, following an import of my confirmed QSOs from
LoTW to DX4WIN, the only QSOs showing an Upl Cnf are those that also show
a country in the final column of the LoTW table of confirmed QSOs on the
website.

I selected Show Details when performing the download.

What did I do wrong?

I uploaded my log from mid December 2007 to the current date. This

 But
on the LoTW web page some VP6DX QSOs showed the country name Ducie

 the
ADIF file from the ARRL server (having selected Imported QSO set Upload
Confirmed Flag) those QSOs for which the country name was shown as
 Ducie
Island had a Y in the Upl Cnf column of my DX4WIN log. Those QSOs
 for
which the country was blank in LoTW did not have a Y in the Upl Cnf
 column of DX4WIN.

This was very obvious with the VP6DX QSOs since there were so many in one
block. So I checked back at QSOs with other stations. Same thing Even
 if
confirmed in LoTW, if there is no county name in the column there is not
 a
Y in the Upl Cnf column of DX4WIN

Normally, if the country is blank, it's not confirmed. Thus the upload
 isn't confirmed.
It seems that some of your Ducie QSOs have been confirmed and some
aren't. This may be a LotW bug, or something else. If you log in to
LotW and use Most Recent QSLs are all of your Ducie QSOs showing up?
If not, what leads you to believe that they've been confirmed on LotW?

[Dx4win] Spot Color

2003-12-21 Thread Larry Burke WI5A
Every now and then I get a spot with a priority that doesn't seem to be
correct. This happened for TO4E even after I mapped it to Europa. The
latest instance was for 9N7YDY on 40m. I have not worked a 9N on 40, yet
it came up as Priority 6 (green text - band/mode not confirmed). In this
case I would have expected Priority 3 (white text on red - new award
band). I have 9N on all higher bands on various combinations of CW/SSB
so it doesn't appear to be a mode-related issue. Suspect some form of
operator error here, but can't put my finger on it. Thoughts?

On a related issue. thanks to whoever suggested the use of Callsign
Alert during the TO4E operations. While I knew this feature was out
there, I had really never used it. It proved to be a useful tool in
trying to pinpoint their somewhat erratic operations -- even after I had
worked them on a particular band/mode.

[Dx4win] Mapping specific callsigns to a Country (TO4E)

2003-11-27 Thread Larry Burke WI5A
Is anyone besides me having the TO4E spots come up as blue text against
a white background (priority 4) when Europa is needed for a new
band-country? Ordinarily a new band-country would be white text on a red
background (priority 3). Think a similar issue came up on the reflector
several months ago. Do I have something set incorrectly or is this the
way the priorities are supposed to work? I normally sound an alarm for
new band-countries, but the current settings won't do that for TO4E.

The easiest way, Ron, is to type TO4E in the log window and tab over to
the prefix box and hit F1 and choose the entity from the list that
pops up that you want this callsign exception to be. Then hit Enter and
Log the QSO, then, bring that QSO back to the log window by double
clicking on it in the logbook window and choose the QSO pulldown menu
and select Delete QSO. this will make a callsign exception for that
callsign anytime it is entered into the log window in the future, from
that date on. Happy Thanksgiving! 73, -=Rog-K9RB=-

I've been going in through the databasescountries
menu, selecting FR/J, then doing a callsadd At
this point I add TO4E, zone 39, and the start date. I
 save changes and exit.

The changes I make disappear at this point and TO4E
 remains mapped to France.

I didn't see any discussion on this in the archives
 for the past few months.

 I'm running v5.02

 Thanks and 73,

 Ron (W8RU).

[Dx4win] No System Beep

2002-01-01 Thread Larry Burke WI5A
I'm blaming bin Laden, don't know about you. So far no real leads. Have you
recently installed any new software ? I'm not real sure, but when I first
noticed it was around the time I installed mIRC (internet chat).

Subject: [Dx4win] No System Beep

Posted this question a couple of weeks ago, but got no replies. Wonder if
anyone can suggest what to look at to get my system beep back the
one
that notifies you that a new band/mode country has been spotted. It used
to work, then just disappeared not sure what I might have done to make
it stop working. I have system beep selected under Packet 1 in
Preferences, but no joy. Things work just fine if I select CW announce,
call (voice notification), etc. but not when system beep is selected.
When it worked it used to produce a noise like ding.wav.

[Dx4win] No System Beep

Voice and CW alerts work just fine with me. The system alert does not work,
even on the internal PC speaker (with the sound card turned off).

I have checked my preferences settings, sent commands to the cluster I log
onto, gotten advice over the reflector, and even burned ashes to read over
tea leaves. Nothing I have tried in the last few weeks has restored the
beep that used to come with each DX spot. All I can figure out is that
maybe a cluster or windows update somewhere along the line has stopped it.

If you enable the voice alerts do they play properly when the DX is
spotted? If not I would suspect a change in the format of the spots coming
from the cluster, such that the expected format is no longer being
recognized by DX4WIN.
