[Dx4win] TS890s on RTTY with DX4WIN - MMTTY

2020-08-18 Thread wd4ngb
Is anyone using a Kenwood TS890S with DX4WIN and MMTTY  with a USB
connection, rather than a cables from a sound card? Trying to get back
into RTTY, with my new TS890. I am also interested in getting my TS890
on some of the other digital modes.

Radi - I seem to remember that there was some issue with V1.7, but
unfortunately I cannot remember what the problem was. I checked and all my
installs are still 1.68.

Yes, as far as I know. 1.70 isn't really that new, see:

John, please try this:

Open a DOS window and go to the MMTTY directory. In my case:

Calling the MMTTY with the option -r I did reproduce the problem. Looks
like a MMTTY issue. I'm using MMTTY 1.70L.

Overall, now having added a second sound card, I notice DX4Win makes a

Hi List,

Thank you for all the responses.

I now know %X/%e are valid macro tokens used to switch on/off FSK transmission
in the DX4Win GUI for MMTTY.

However the "ding mystery" remains unsolved.

I have made the following observations:

The loudspeaker ding is associated with using the %X token (start FSK
transmission) in a function key macro (e.g. F1). The %e (stop
transmission) creates no ding.

The actual sound made is called "Windows Background" and is also used e.g. when
changing the Windows loudspeaker volume using the mouse in the system tray.

I have confirmed the issue on three different installations; A HP Pavilion
Desktop running Swedish Windows 10, an ASUS UL-30VT Laptop running Swedish
Windows 7 and an HP Folio Laptop running English Windows 7.

The ding sound comes through Windows' general audio channel, not the
communications audio channel (which is used for e.g. the FSK audio from MMTTY).
If you use an extra sound card (like I ended up doing) the ding will come
through your loudspeakers and just annoy you.
However, more severely, if you use the PC's built-in sound card for the FSK
signal the ding will overlay with the FSK and distort the first few characters
of ALL your transmissions.

I have tried different settings in "keying setup" Alt-S with no effect.

I have tried placing the MMTTY executable in the default place (c:\program
files\mmtty instead of c:\ham\mmtty where it is installed by default) with no
effect

I have tried changing the settings on most things I find in the Preferences
drop down with no effect.

I have also played around with the standalone version of MMTTY and it shows no
such behavior (it uses backslash "\" as a token to turn on and off transmission
in function key macros.)

Am I alone in seeing this?

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY

2016-07-01 Thread Björn Ekelund
Hi List,

Thank you for all the responses.

I now know %X/%e are valid macro tokens used to switch on/off FSK
transmission in the DX4Win GUI for MMTTY.

However the "ding mystery" remains unsolved.

I have made the following observations:

The loudspeaker ding is associated with using the %X token (start FSK
transmission) in a function key macro (e.g. F1). The %e (stop
transmission) creates no ding.

The actual sound made is called "Windows Background" and is also used
e.g. when changing the Windows loudspeaker volume using the mouse in
the system tray.

I have confirmed the issue on three different installations; A HP
Pavilion Desktop running Swedish Windows 10, an ASUS UL-30VT Laptop
running Swedish Windows 7 and an HP Folio Laptop running English
Windows 7.

The ding sound comes through Windows' general audio channel, not the
communications audio channel (which is used for e.g. the FSK audio
from MMTTY). If you use an extra sound card (like I ended up doing)
the ding will come through your loudspeakers and just annoy you.
However, more severely, if you use the PC's built-in sound card for
the FSK signal the ding will overlay with the FSK and distort the
first few characters of ALL your transmissions.

I have tried different settings in "keying setup" Alt-S with no effect.

I have tried placing the MMTTY executable in the default place
(c:\program files\mmtty instead of c:\ham\mmtty where it is installed
by default) with no effect

I have tried changing the settings on most things I find in the
Preferences drop down with no effect.

I have also played around with the standalone version of MMTTY and it
shows no such behavior (it uses backslash "\" as a token to turn on
and off transmission in function key macros.)

Am I alone in seeing this?

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY

2016-06-30 Thread Björn Ekelund
Thanks for the response Joe,

I believe your answer relates to the MMTTY GUI front end, not the
DX4WIN front end.
In that the backslash is used to switch on/off transmission and using
%X may result in an error.

However, the DX4Win GUI for MMTTY has a different set of macro
definitions and Paul KK4HD guided me
to the right spot in the help section where it says that "%capital
letter" means control character
which then mean e.g. %M=CRLF and %X is start FSK transmission.

Now, the problem is that the %X macro does two things - switch on FSK
transmission and produce a loud
"error ding" in the system sound loudspeaker.

This ding does indeed sound just like an error ding. But the %X macro
is valid and does turn on the FSK transmission.
The ding is very unfortunate if you connect your transceiver to the
PC's built in sound card, it will go straight into the air.
If you have a separate sound card for DIGIMODES then it creates an
annyoing ding in your loudspeakers instead.

So I would really like to get rid of it. If I knew how.

Thanks,

Björn SM7IUN

Press F1 (for help)
Search for "macro" (without the quotes.)

A click on the first entry will show you a list for the function keys.
The other entries may be of help too!

As always, start with the example configuration for DX4Win and MK II

DX4Win's support for MMTTY is a bit strange in FSK in that you must

the FSK port and set Configure MMTTY | MISC | TX Port to COM-TxD(FSK)

If it is any consolation both these issues will be configuration problems.
I have used MMTTY and WINKEY with DXWIN through a MKII for years and have
10's of thousands of QSO's in the log with this setup. I'd be the first to
admit that DX4WIN could do with some improvement in this area but it does
all work. The key is to be consistent and make sure each part of the chain
has the same instructions. Follow the setups in the MKII help, they work.

No, it is a configuration issue in DX4Win.

The preference CW tab has Device type set to WinKey,
Interface set to com4, external keyer set to com4.

You have configured *two devices* to the same port. Software CW keying/
PTT control and External keyer *MUST BE DIFFERENT PORT NUMBERS* as in
the example document. External Keyer port is the one used for Winkey
and must match the Winkey port in microHAM Router.

You probably have a similar issue with MMTTY if you have set a port
for RTTY interface (RTTY Interface =None). There is *no port set* for
MMTTY in DX4Win - it is set only in MMTTY.

Re: [Dx4win] mmtty

2015-02-03 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

something in DX4WIN is not working with the router... ideas?

No ideas. When I prepared the example documents everything was
working exactly as documented with DX4Win 8.05 which was the then
current working demo. I did not install the demo on my newer
systems and could not test with any newer software in any case.

The typical cause of a can not open port message is an improper
configuration - more than one program accessing the same port - or
a port conflict - attempt to define a hardware port and virtual
port to the same number.

Cort,

As always, start with the example configuration for DX4Win and MK II
from microHAM. In Router (Help | Download Documents) or on-line in
the MK II area at www.microham-USA.com/support.html.

DX4Win's support for MMTTY is a bit strange in FSK in that you must
run MMTTY stand alone from the same path as used in DX4Win to configure
the FSK port and set Configure MMTTY | MISC | TX Port to COM-TxD(FSK)
because there is no way to pass the port/FSK setting from the DX4Win
MMTTY window.

I don't think so. Does anyone know if the keyboard (ALT-K) can repeat

2012-10-12 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Hi John

Here are a couple things to check:

Is the path to MMTTY on the RTTY tab in Preferences correct? Mine
is c:\program files (x86)\mmtty\mmtty.exe.

I have struggled with Win 7 saving some files as Compatibility Files,
which I have yet to fully understand. In any case, sometimes files end up
in the wrong folder and then programs such as DX4Win can't find them.

Good luck.

This if from the N1MM Help file:
Stay on Top

You can make MMTTY stay on top of other programs until it is minimized with
its own minimize button. Usually, this is done when MMTTY is a window that
is smaller than the full screen.

Click Option | Setup TNC emulation and check Stay on top.

I think you have to exit out of MMTTY in DX4WIN and open the full version of
MMTTY to get to this setting.

Do you have another receiver to determine if you have set up the
FT-1000MP correctly? As shipped from Yaesu (default), almost all
Yaesu transceivers (including all models of the FT-1000 series)
will transmit upside down in RTTY. It generally necessary to
set Menu 6-1 (FT-1000MP, MK V, etc.) to REV or DIP switch 5

 Radi,

One of the mysteries if RTTY. Mr Yaesu thinks normal RTTY is USB, this is a
great RTTY debate for another day perhaps. I am guessing you RTTY signals
are reversed. So either operate RTTY USB or in the FT1000MP there is a menu
6-1 that allows you to reverse the RTTY which will allow you to continue
RTTY LSB.

Re: [Dx4win] FSK RTTY with DX4WIN/MMTTY and microKeyer

2012-03-19 Thread John Shaw

RTTY LSB.

I've decided to try FSK (no AFSK) with microHAM keyer and have configured
router, DX4WIN and associated MMTTY for FSK as indicated in Router
documentation. RX is ok, on TX FSK COM5 port well indicates 45.5N1.5 and my
FT1000MP goes to transmitt in RTTY LSB mode, I can change output power and
MMTTY display shows normal RTTY display at TX, but nobody answers my calls
on their frequency ! I have no test bench nor another RX at hand to check
what might be happening. Has anybody an idea what's going on???

[Dx4win] MMTTY error

MMTTY works great standalone. Something has changed in my DX4WIN, though. MMTTY

diddle, but I get the error message:
An exception occured.
i.e., Device already open.
I don't know what device is referred to. I did not leave MMTTY standalone
running, I closed it.
IDEAS?

Make sure DX4WIN is not using the same port as MMTTY for another task (CW

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY and Radio Keying

2011-11-26 Thread John, K9EL
I have a similar setup but using a TS2000, The entire setup is located in a
remote location and used over the internet.

I use one serial port that talks to DX4Win and the Kenwood Radio Control
software. This is done by using Port Splitter software. One serial port
can be used to feed multiple pieces of software.

I use a second serial port that is tied to MMTTY for FSK keying using the
simple 2 transistor interface as described on AA5AU's site.

MMTTY is fully integrated with DX4Win and I can key the radio using either
MMTTY or the radio control software.

Subject: [Dx4win] MMTTY and Radio Keying

I had MMTTY working fine with AFSK/VOX but prefer FSK (no Windows sounds
going out with one sound card in use, radio filters are set-up better,
etc.). I built the serial FSK PTT ( CW while at it) interface. Got
MMTTY working alone great with software keying by the radio interface and
FSK (only one wire from serial port to FSK) with the other serial port for
the radio control (Kenwood TS-850).

I cannot find a way at all to carry the radio interface software command
keying to DX4WIN. DX4WIN works fine with the PTT keying by the second
serial port (the one with FSK, not the radio), but 2 reasons I much prefer
the other (keying the radio by software commands via the radio serial port):

- If I start DX4WIN in KAM mode to use my KAM for RTTY instead of
MMTTY, my radio locks in TX until I unplug PTT (might be able to find a DTR
or CTS high/low switch to turn that off).

- My PTT connector had not been used for a few years on my radio
accessory wiring and has an intermittent which means I need to rework it
(but many wires out of the accessory jack and hard work).

So, if I explained this right, I am looking for help in using DX4WIN with
MMTTY, Radio Control on one serial port, FSK on another serial port and
Kenwood radio commands via the radio interface to put radio into TX.
Everything working except the last item (software keying). If this cannot
be done, I would like to know where and if I can ask to have this added.
Sure works nice in stand-alone MMTTY where you can interface to the radio
and use FSK without the separate PTT line.

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY DX4WIN help needed

2011-05-16 Thread Kostas Stamatis
There is a setup guide by microham. In microham router go to help and after
that check and download u3 dx4win setup guide. Follow this guide. As i know
usb iii (and usb ii) is not capable to transmit on fsk. Mmtty alone is
needed comfsk to make fsk. Writelog and n1mm also has a similar software
interface to make the rig working fsk with these devices. Dx4win does not.
So the only way is to run rtty like afsk. This in practice means that it
doesnt work when you choose RTTY button in your rig but instead of this you
should choose PKT-LSB (if it is yaesu) or something similar (what you use
for PSK) or LSB if there is nothing similar in your radio.

Re: [Dx4win] MMTTY DX4WIN help needed

2011-04-24 Thread Antonio Galiana
Hi.
Many thanks to everyone who helped me to solve this problem.

From the begining I have followed the steps of MK2R+ and DX4WIN 8 setup
guide.
I spent my free time during one week going through the guide step by step,
repeatedly.

Guy suggested that I had installed the software twice. So I decided to:
- uninstall MTTY and delete the folder
- shut down the computer and run it again
- install latest version of the program (1.68A) from MM Hamsoft (THANKS!)
- Follow again step by step Kostas setup guide

...and finally, it works!
What happened? Don't know, age does not forgive.

Again, big thanks to you guys, you are wonderful.

 Hello Group.
 I Need some advice please:

Here I have instaled DX4WIN 8.05 into a new computer running Windows XP.
 As hardware I have a Microham MK2R+ and FT1000D
 MK2R+ is conneceted via USB.

If I run MMTTY as an standalone program all works fine, in the FT1000D I
use RTTY/LSB and I can work RTTY perfectly.

Through DX4WIN all goes fine except RTTY. RX is ok, but when I want to send
RTTY the transceiver goes into TX but just a continuous carrier. Nothing
 else. (RTTY/LSB selected)
If I choose PKT/LSB I can both RX TX without problem but then when real
time logging, PACK mode appears in DX4 logging window.

One thing that it could be important (??) is that when DX4WIN is running
and I go to the RTTY Control panel window SETUP (O), in the MMTTY MISC
tab, into the TX-PORT box, only Sound is marked, others are greyed out.
But running MMTTY as standalone, the TX-PORT Box shows COM-TxD(FSK) and USB
 port Limited Speed.

Any idea? This issue is driving me crazy...

[Dx4win] MMTTY control panel

2010-12-15 Thread W4PV
Hello,

Why is it that the RTTY control panel in DX4WIN will not stay on top of the
typing window. The control panel puts itself down when I tune my transceiver
from one freq. to another or type in the typing window. The only way I can get
the control panel back on the desk top is to click on the RTTY control panel in
the task bar.

Thanks,

Patrick, W4PV

[Dx4win] MMTTY Problem

2010-10-24 Thread Dave Earnest

When I try to transmit with MMTTY in DX4WIN, my rig goes to transmit, but I get
the error message:

An exception occured -
i.e. _Open - device already open

I am not running MMTTY stand alone or any other program but DX4WIN.

When I close DX4WIN and bring up MMTTY stand alone, MMTTY works fine.

Any thoughts?

Dave, K7JJ

[Dx4win] MMTTY

2010-10-24 Thread David J. Strout
My problem is that MMTTY works fine in WriteLog and always did in DX4WIN too.
Now it works in WriteLog but neither MMTTY standalone or MMTTY in WriteLog will
work. Have
studied Jim's App. Note 9 and prior screen shots I took to no avail.
Suggestions appreciated.

After 3 days of pulling my hair out I have solved the problem.

The problem was in the MMTTY keying setup window  (ALT S in the MMTTY window).
With MMTTY using COM 1 for FSK the MMTTY keying setup cannot be set to COM 1
also.  When running in the FSK mode the keying setup is irrelevant and should
not matter, but it does.
How the keying got set to COM 1 for v704 705 only I do not know.

Thanks to those who had suggestions.

What you see is all there is. DX4WIN interfaces to a reduced

You always have the option of running the stand-alone version of MMTTY

As mentioned previously though, SPLIT operation on RTTY (MMTTY) doesn?t work
properly; if you call someone on the 2nd VFO the received signal on the main

There ?*could* be some other anomalies too.

Can't really help with specific reply for Bob, but whilst on topic of MMTTY
does anyone know how to keep the RTTY Control panel on screen - not have it
hiding behind other windows - when using DX4WIN?

I use my rig control serial cable to key the rig for CW with DX4WIN. Can I use
this same setup to key the rig for MMTTY?

Subject: [Dx4win] how to connect to cluster from packet window?
In-Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

hi,

I am trying to make it comfortable to connect to cluster over TCP/IO after
starting DX4WIN. I can go to Paclet Window, then open Internet Connection
from right-click menu, then scroll to desired node and slect it and click
OK.

Is it possible to memorize/automate this so that DX4WIN qould connect
automatically after starting?

How should I use the CONNECT function key? What is the syntax to be able to
connect by pushing it? It says now Connect|C N3CC%M and it is not
connecting anywhere but error message is displayed.

2007-03-11 Thread Larry Gauthier (K8UT)
Josep,

The answer to you question is both Yes and No.

No = the only way to get full cascaded functionality (where double-clicking
on a callsign in the MMTTY receive add a new QSO in real-time mode and enter
the callsign into the record) is by using the MMTTY back-end engine without
full program controls.

Yes = you can get partial functionality (such as having the DX4WIN keyboard
macros) by connecting the full MMTTY program to DX4WIN using a null modem
cable or null modem software (DX4WIN is then talking to MMTTY as a TNC).
This requires a more powerful computer than the back-end engine.

Depending on your requirements, you may prefer using the partial
functionality instead of the full functionality. I wrote an application
note in 2004 connecting MMTTY to DX4WIN using a null modem technique,
another note on using DX4WIN macros into MMTTY. You can find them on WA9ALS
web site at:
http://www.qsl.net/wa9als/dx4win-mmtty-hardware%20v4.pdf

Ernie,

Make sure MMTTY is working standalone
then
Go into Preferences | RTTY tab

Type = NONE

Last line
MMTTY executable
C:\. fill in where mmtty.exe is located

That should work now
After saving etc

I am one of those hams who has never tried to get MMTTY working with
DX4Win - until today. I use MixW for digital operations.

But I thought I would try to get MMTTY going, so as to make a comparison
of the relative merits of both. (I actually got PSK31 going quite OK).

At this stage, I can 'open' MMTTY, and get the terminal window in place,
and staying in place, and I can transmit a signal.

However, each time I open MMTTY (Window/MMTTY), whilst the terminal
window is OK, the parameters window (Control Panel) continually
minimises - as soon as MMTTY is opened.

So, I click on the program in the Task Bar, it 'maximises' the control
panel window; but then every time I click within the terminal window, it
minimises again. I simply cannot get it to stay 'maximised'.

Can someone please guide me to what, no doubt, is an easy solution to a
(probable) silly mistake on my part.

Thanks.

I have downloaded the MMTTY program v1.65D. Can I start it from DX4WIN..?
Or, are they separate programs...? When I run it from DX4WIN I get two
empty windows there. Which kind of interface do I need to make it
running..? I have a G4ZLP interface, with serial port, will work with
MMTTY/DX4WIN..? Sorry so many questions, but I did some RTTY years ago and
was not with DX4WIN. Thank´s your help.

[Dx4win] MMTTY-IC756P2-XP PRO

2006-10-14 Thread Chris Sauvageot
Do it step by step and start with COM1 and TRX only. If this runs do the next
step.
PRO2 or PRO3 is equal - important is the ICOM number. PRO had 5C; IC7800 6A;
PRO2 64 and PRO3 6E.
But if you using PRO2 at DX4WIN you have to use in TRX also the PRO2 code = 64
( you can select these in TRX menu )
Or you switch it in DX4WIN TRX menu to 6E. Then no changes in TRX.

As for DX4Win, Im to the point where it opens and copies...

But to get it to TX I have to manually switch my IC-756P2 into TX.

 My Setting are:

 DX4Win 7.02.15

Windows XP PRO, Pentium 4 2.66ghz=20

Any Ideas as to what Im missing?

[Dx4win] MMTTY

2006-10-01 Thread ANDREW HEWITT
GA all,

This was a subject discussed recently but I did not see the result, however
as it is now affecting me I would appreciate enlightenment.

I normally use MixW for Digimodes but as I'm operating /XE1 using my laptop
and IC706mkiig I have been trying to use MMTTY from within DX4Win so that the
logging is common. I have set up MMTTY as a stand alone but then I have to
transfer the logs. Why do that when I have a solution already?

However I have a problem that MMTTY opens ok but after a couple of minutes or
less the MMTTY control panel disappears behind the other DX4Win windows. I can
bring it back by clicking on it but once i have not used it fo a very short
period it again disappears taking the spectrum display with it. The TX and RX
text windows remain in place. I am using ver 7.02.14. I don't think that
earlier versions had this problem.

  Anyone know what to do??

Rick,

MTTY takes care of opening the COM port, so in DW4Win preferencies/RTTY
you should choose RTTY Interface Type none. Hope this helps.

What does the error say?

If you have the full version of MMTTY running stand-alone, the rest is easy:

In the RTTY window, set the RTTY Interface type to NONE.

Put the full path to MMTTY.EXE in the Executable box

Then as Aerosmith would say, Just Press Play

[Dx4win] MMTTY, FSK and no FSK

2006-03-28 Thread Floyd Sense
Recently built a new system and had to reinstall all the software.
Since then, am unable to get MMTTY under DX4WIN to key the FSK line.
MMTTY as stand-alone works just fine and keys proper PTT and FSK lines
as it has for many years. MMTTY under DX4WIN keys the PTT line just
fine, but not the FSK line. Looking for ideas as to why. Here's how
I'm set up: DX4WIN V7, MMTTY 165B. In DX4WIN setup parameters: CW/PTT
control- COM4, DTR is CW keying, RTS is PTT Control. RTTY tab - Type =
NONE. In MMTTY setup, Misc Tab, TX port set to COM-TxD(FSK). In MMTTY
window, keying setup, PTT Control set to RTS.

MMTTY window is opened from DX4WIN, receive is just fine. If I hit the
TX button, RTS line comes up on COM4 for PTT, but no FSK. As you'd
expect to see if MMTTY were set up for AFSK. Again, MMTTY stand-alone
works perfectly. Any ideas?

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have posted updated release notes for DX4WIN.CTY Release #28:

 http://www.ad1c.us/dx4win/history.htm#28

The list of callsign exceptions and QSL manager changes is current as
of 29 March 2006.

I expect there will be another jump in the number of QSL managers
when I finish processing the calls from CQ WPX SSB. There are no
radical changes to the size of the QSL manager database this
time. Remember, only QSL manager *changes* are listed in the release
notes, it would take up too much space to list all the additions.

The release will be sometime this weekend (April 1/2).
