Version 1.67 of EchoServer for Linux is now available: http://www.echogent.com/download_echoserverlinux.htm or ftp://ftp.echogent.com/EchoServer/linux/bin The primary focus of this release is improved stability with very large connection count (1,000 to 10,000 users). As described in the README file, the limiting feature of your Linux PC (in terms of how many echoWare clients it will accept) is the maximum number of open files. To see that limit: % ulimit -a To change that limit, try this command as root, prior to starting up your echoServer: # ulimit -n 4096 For upgrading users, any registration keys you have for earlier releases still work in this one; just swap in the new binary into your existing installation. Comments or suggestions welcome. cheers, Scott -- Enable your software for Intel(R) Active Management Technology to meet the growing manageability and security demands of your customers. After years of delay bordering on abandonment ... the 3.0 update to the EchoVNC server for Windows is now available for beta testing: ftp://ftp.echogent.com/EchoVNC/windows/beta/ Please just download that file, unzip it, and double click on the setup installer. To use the application: 1. Select what type of remote desktop application you want EchoVNC to help with (VNC, Remote Deskop, or RAdmin). 2. Add an echoServer connection. By default it connects to our demo echoServer, but you can of course use your own. After that, it should be ready. Please note: in this version, EchoVNC is more than happy to work with any VNC server you already have installed. So if you're a big fan of RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC (and who isn't?), please feel free to *keep using that server*. EchoVNC will simply help you make firewall- friendly connections to it. If you're not running a VNC service already, EchoVNC comes with one, and will kick-start it as needed. Try it out, you'll see what I mean. In this beta, you can also register EchoVNC as a service. Right now, the settings you create in standalone mode don't get copied over. Am fixing that now, so please feel free to suggest this as an improvement. :) Any questions or concerns, please let me know! -Scott -- Enable your software for Intel(R) Active Management Technology to meet the growing manageability and security demands of your customers. Re: [Echovnc-users] Install Linux Server without Root Access
as i recall from the agreement - you cannot use that type of server to run this kind of script... but the fact is you shouldn't need root to actually run the script, however you then cannot affect runlevel. mostly the issue is the AUP with 11 - be very cautious of it. -dan On Wed, 2008-11-12 at 07:41 -0500, Scott Freeman wrote: Hi: I am considering trying to run an EchoVNC server in my hosted Linux 11 space and see from their FAQ that I will not have root access. [Echovnc-users] Silly questions and source code
I plan on enhancing the echovnc/instantvnc controller to have a few more features like those within logmein - rescue. First - has anyone started this (I plan on keeping the entire thing completely open source and updated as we want to use it for providing advanced support to our own clients - and I want to kick logmein out of the picture) What I'm looking to get is a bit more bleeding edge and I wondered if there is a public svn/cvs repo with the following; Instantvnc, EchoVNC, and if available source for the dll (as I have a team that knows the relay systems inside and out that might be able to optimize it even more than you already have (it's quite nice and doesn't seem to take up too much processor even at reasonably high loads) - but that last part isn't really needed. So in short - I'm looking to gain r/o access to the svn's that I can and use that information to create a slightly more powerful support tool. And I must say - I was very happy to see how well the server works - thanks for creating a great service. And for those curious - I've got a few ideas to build a streaming relay server to integrate with vlc so keep your eyes open for my updates.
