Re: [Elecraft] KRX3A sensitivity
Conrad, Assuming this is for 2m-eme, I would guess you have two preamps before the transverter which are adding gain and setting the system NF. If the preamp gain is approx 25 dB or higher, it will likely set the system NF as it has enough gain to overcome the NF of the transverter and K3S. I have a dual receive transverter that provides 28-MHz to both main and sub receivers in my K3. I tap the 1st IF of both receivers in the K3 to provide output to two coherent SDR that provide two IQ outputs to a four port soundcard and drives MAP65. My preamps provide 0.26 dB NF which has a MDS of -146.3 dBm with 500-Hz bw. The combination of the 0.8 dBNF transverter with 17-dB gain, and K3 only add 0.2 to the NF and lower MDS to -146.2 dBm. adding 6-dB loss after the transverter only raises NF to 0.30 dB. This is using 12 dBNF for the K3; lowering to 9-dB lowers system NF to 0.28 dB On 2m this is insignificant due sky noise and man-made noise having more effect on actual MDS. I used Tsky=250K in above calculations which is probably not achievable in today's RF environment. If I use Tsky=1000K, MDS drops to 141.2 dBm. 73, Ed - KL7UW Date: Mon, 2 Dec 2019 13:19:17 + From: Conrad PA5Y To: "elecraft@mailman.qth.net" Subject: [Elecraft] KRX3A sensitivity Hello all. I have a dual diversity Xpol EME system for 2m and a dual coherent transverter. I am trying to calculate if I have enough gain available in the transverter to split the output 4 ways with a loss of approximately 6dB. The K3S has an MDS of -138dBm in a 500Hz bandwidth which is approximately 9dB noise figure with preamp 1 switched on. Does the KRX3A have a an independent preamp1? I know that the preamp2 is a shared resource. What about preamp1? Many thanks in advance. Jim, Yes, the net result is the same as what Frank posted. My article goes a bit further into explaining that there are multiple audio level controls, and that none of them should be near the lower or upper extremes (because the adjustment gets "touchy"). Just how many audio level controls there are depends on the software application and the drivers for the soundcard. Some soundcards (interface boxes) have a rotary control. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/2/2019 4:19 PM, kennedyjp wrote: Thanks Don. I will look at that info also. Hi Jim, The symptom you observed is exactly how the K3 normally operates when the audio level is too low. Re: [Elecraft] K3s WSJT-x V2.1.2 no vox
As I recall in the current version or maybe it was the previous version, there was a change which affects the way it handles TX audio level. I wouldn't at all be surprised that update a version does changes audio level. I believe it is a bug fix to prevent audio distortion due to excessive gain and thus distortion in the computer. I don't use VOX for transmit but prefer CAT for transmit as it is not affected by audio level or VOX hang time. 73 Bob, K4TAX Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 2, 2019, at 2:24 PM, Jim Rhodes wrote: > > And make sure that your operating system has not changed your sound device > settings. Re: [Elecraft] K3s WSJT-x V2.1.2 no vox
Check SPKR level on the computer. Also check PWR slider on WSJT-X. Check Audio tab on WSJT, F2 Menu, Audio tab to see that both Transmit and Tune boxes are checked. This remembers the settings per band. 73 Bob, K4TAX Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 2, 2019, at 11:23 AM, cx...@4email.net wrote: > > Hola, > > Problem with keying the VOX on the K3s with new install. [Elecraft] K3s WSJT-x V2.1.2 no vox
Hola, Problem with keying the VOX on the K3s with new install. Select "Tune", it turns red but xmtr does not key VOX. Never had this problem with v 2.0.0. Double checked USB audio codex for both speaker and microphone. Parameters checked for Radio tab, K3s, using usb from KIO3 to computer, com4 (doublechecked Device manager for correct port), VOX tab checked, 38400 and 8-1-none for Data/stop/handshake. Line in selected at 30 on K3s along with Vox gain at 30 (same as before). K3s mode selected for TX data and Data A menu selected. Received and decode FT8 no problem, still no xmit with VOX. Do not see where I can go back to v2.0.0 as it no longer appears on WSJT-x website. Suggestions? 73 Tom HP1XT __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KRX3A sensitivity
Hello all. Re: [Elecraft] KX2 Utility & Linux
73, Peter (PA0PJE) Hi Joe, Did you add yourself in the group "dialout"? Control Center > Users and Groups > 'your user name' > Manage groups > Scroll to dialout, select it and click 'properties' then tick the box in front of your username. Click ok, enter your admin password, log off and back on again. Then try the connection again. Hoipe this works for you, it did for me! Good luck. 73 Peter PA0PJE Op 01-12-2019 om 21:14 schreef Joseph Shuman via Elecraft: I run Linux Mint 19.2 (Tina) and have installed the Linux KX2 utility. I have successfully created a rule so that the KX2 is recognized on /dev/ttyUSB0 by the OS. The program, however, will not open the port so it does not “see” the radio as connected. I have tried several online suggested solutions to no success. Any advice? (I have been successful in getting Windows NetLogger to run under WINE, if any Linux user is interested!)
