[Elecraft] OT: KL7UW QRV for 6m eme/ms
Although my 2m-eme system is down (until next summer), my 6m station is QRV with two 7-element LFA yagis and 1000w for eme/meteor scatter/50.313 (FT8). I am aware that KL7 is highly sought after for 6m WAS & DXCC. Look for my activity on ON4KST chat/50-MHz IARU Region 2 and pskreporter.com. I will have LOTW initialized soon. 73, Ed - KL7UW http://www.kl7uw.com Dubus-NA Business mail: dubus...@gmail.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] KIO3B Main Board Repair
Received e-mail from Elecraft that my KIO3 board is being shipped. Cost of new digital board $187.50 + $17.50 shipping. So my K3 will be restored for operating JT65 on eme end of the month. Only my 2m-eme array and tower crashed two days ago in high winds. http://www.kl7uw.com/2m-eme_down_1.jpg BTW I got my KX3 running on digital modes by use of a Rigblaster NOMIC. Re: [Elecraft] [OT] Broken boom mic attachment on a CM-500
Jack, I have BOTH the CM-500 and the SB-45, as well as a Heil Proset. I like all three for different reasons. The CM-500 is comfortable, and has the best mic boom, it has an enormous output from the electret mic — nearly too much for my K3. I used it effectively with the K2. The SB-45 is very comfortable but has a flimsy mic boom that tends to wiggle when I move my head. I can wear it for hours. The Heil Proset has the best frequency response in the headphones, and has an HC-4 element, which is unobtanium today. My problem with it is it hurt my ears after wearing it for an hour. I fixed that problem recently by buying some oversize earopads from Brainwavz. It is now just as comfortable as the CM-500 or SB-45. > On Nov 1, 2020, at 5:31 PM, Jack Brindle via Elecraft > wrote: > > I bought a new CM-500 set on Amazon about two years ago. Re: [Elecraft] CM-500 - Replacing the ear cushions
The way to do is is actually quite simple: Loosen the three screws then pull the old cushion off; Do Not Remove the screws. Take the new ear cushion and Stretch the part that will go in the slot Then working quickly (before it stretches back) work it into the open slot. On the side with the cord you may need to remove the bottom screw to get enough clearance for the strain relief for the cord to fit. Retighten the screws and you are done. Here is a video showing how to do it on a pair of Sennheiser HD280 that may help https://youtu.be/zUtC-MatRD8 Note: CM-500 have screws that clamp down on the ear cushions and Sennheiser's do not, but the technique is similar. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] CM-500
Holding them together was not a problem for me. The problem was when they were apart, trying to get the replacement ear cushion onto the driver without ever putting stress on the teeny wires connected to the driver. Clamps don’t really help with that. wunder K6WRU Walter Underwood CM87wj http://observer.wunderwood.org/ (my blog) > On Nov 3, 2020, at 2:54 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: > > As any woodworker knows, that is what clamps are for - they provide that > extra hand often needed. > Also, the woodworker's mantra is "you can never have too many clamps" - I > have often found that is true. > > There are large and quite small clamps. > > 73, > Don W3FPR > > On 11/3/2020 4:55 PM, Paul Ferguson wrote: >> I found it rather difficult to install replacement ear pads on the >> CM-500. As any woodworker knows, that is what clamps are for - they provide that extra hand often needed. Also, the woodworker's mantra is "you can never have too many clamps" - I have often found that is true. There are large and quite small clamps. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/3/2020 4:55 PM, Paul Ferguson wrote: I found it rather difficult to install replacement ear pads on the CM-500. [Elecraft] K4 Input Power
Wayne Just looking at the updated manuals and wanted to know about the DC input power range limits. On page 4 of the new update its says power of 13.8 to 14.2V preferred. I have been running my K3s with an input power of 14.8V based on IMD tests I have done. What is the safe range for DC input and is the 14.2V recommendation based on an IMD sweet spot or can I leave my existing supply at 14.8V. I can adjust down to 14.2V if that is better operating point. Thanks for updates on docs. de Dave K5MWR On 11/2/2020 10:18, Wayne Burdick wrote: On Nov 2, 2020, at 7:51 AM, Jim Miller wrote: This is mentioned in the online manual. Re: [Elecraft] [OT] Broken boom mic attachment on a CM-500
I solved the CM-500 pad wear problem by getting some black Geekria cloth covers from Amazon. They fit snugly around the pads. On the right side the top of the cover tended to slide down until I got out a needle and thread and tied the edges together on the outside of the headset, just under the R. Now the pads should last a long time. The covers come as two pairs. I have not replaced the first pair after a couple of years. They show no wear at all. 73, Jim W6YA __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] K3S on 2m: AGC OFF / Meteor Scatter : weird behavior
Hello, I'm using my K3s with the internal K144XV on 2m, currently focusing on Meteor Scatter with FSK144. Due to the transient nature of Meteor Scatter bursts/pings, the best AGC setting is OFF, as the AGC would flatten the signal, potentially impacting decoding. In MS we RX 30s and send the next 30s; the weird behavior I'm observing is that the RX audio level on the USB souncard output is varying between RX periods, i.e. the AF level changes up and down (around 10dB) between different RX periods. The AF level stays the same within the same period. I initially suspected some relay issue (PA / LNA) but I've tested everything including a different receiver with AGC off and the problem is definitely the K3. Any hint what may be happening ? I've tried changing the AF Lim value but that only seems to have an effect on the Loudspeaker audio, not on the USB soundcard. 73 Marco HB9CAT __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
