2022-06-10 Thread eric norris via Elecraft
Dear Gang:
I can no longer work up on my small tower, and need to find someone who does
antenna work professionally or semi-pro in the south San Francisco bay area.
Please email me any recommendations off-list
Thanks!

Re: [Elecraft] KX3/KPA100/Powerwerx Question

2022-06-10 Thread Hank via Elecraft
I assume RF power level settings for the KXPA100 and K3 are the same?

I had similar issues with the Powerwerx, but it occurs only with loads above 15
amps for any length of time.  The fan noise was so loud it was annoying.  With
some age on the supply it's much worse.  I swapped to an Astron Linear years
ago and have never looked back - no fan, no noise.  I leave it on all of the
time to keep my battery plant charged using a Low Loss Power gate.

Subject: [Elecraft] KX3/KPA100/Powerwerx Question

I have a KX3/KPA100/Powerwerx setup.  When I run the rig with the amp on, my
Powerwerx 30 amp power supply makes a whirling sound.  If I run the rig without
the amp, the power supply makes no noise.  When I run may K3 it makes no noise.
Is there a problem causing the noise? Thanks,Jim W7JHR

2022-06-10 Thread Kevin McQuiggin
I suggest taking the lid off of the power supply and inspecting the fan for
dust. It can accumulate and affect the free rotation of the fan, generating
noise. A vacuuming might be in order.

Maybe it’s the cooling fan of the power supply. When more power is needed the
supply gets warmer and the fan spins faster - so you can hear it then. If it’s
too annoying, there are more quiet fans with which you could replace the
original fan.
