[Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Net Report

2023-11-19 Thread Dave New, N8SBE
3806 kHz (we moved up to 3807 kHz this evening, due to nearby ARRL
Sweepstakes activity) 9PM ET Sunday (0200Z Monday).

Thanks to the following check ins (w) and relays (rel):

   Call State Radio/AmpName
1 N8SBE MIK4D/KPA500 Dave (w),(op)
2 K8NU OHK4D/KPA1500 Carl (w)
3 WN9A INK4D Larry (w)
4 W9PCS WIK4D/KPA500 Paul (w)
5 WM6P GAK4D/KPA1500 MSTEVE (rel),(w)
6 WB9JNZ ILFT101dx/KPA1500 Eric (rel),(w)
7 WW4JF TNK3s/KPA500 JOHN (w)
8 W0ALA INK3s/KPA500 TONY (w)
9 N8DZR MIK4D Jeff (w)
10 W4KBX FLK3s/KPA500 Richard (w)
11 KE8TRL MIIC-7300 Blaine (w)

We had a total of 11 check ins this week (including the NCS), which was
quite good considering the ARRL Sweepstakes was in the last hour and all
around us. Most signals were good all around, except a few barefoot
stations and ones that were either too close or too far from the net
control station. For the most part, 80M was in pretty good condition
overall. Many thanks to the relay stations for pulling those stations
in and making them part of the net. Very nice hearing from the new check
ins and hope to see all of you again. The net concluded at 9:22 PM ET.

In spite of the recent frequency change, the turnout continues to be
encouraging.

Hope to see you next week!

73,

On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted—nevermore!

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500?

2023-11-19 Thread W2HX
Excellent. thank you. I’ve been advised that I should download the kat500
utility and look in the help files for more details since, as you point out,
without a KAT500 the software will limit my ability to comb through the
features.
Thanks all!

Most of what you ask is performed by KAT500 Utility, not KAT500 Remote. Both
are free downloads but most of what you're interested in seeing is accessible
only when actually connected to a KAT500. Only one of those programs can
connect at a time, via a COM port. KAT500 Utility is a local program. I run it
on a shack computer at the remote site and access it remotely via a remote
desktop program. KAT500 Remote can operate either locally or client/server. I
run it C/S with the server side on that same shack computer. See specific
answers below; all the answers are Yes:

Hello there. I am not currently an owner of any elecraft product, but I am
seriously considering a KAT500 for use with older analog radios. I hope this is
the right place to ask because the elecraft website page for subscribing to
this list (https://elecraft.com/pages/community) only mentions
"KX1/K1/K2/K3/KX3/P3/KPA500" but here goes.

I am interested in the native capabilities of the remote control software I
looked on the elecraft website and only found this manual which only covers
installation of the software:
https://ftp.elecraft.com/KAT500/Remote%20Software/KAT500-Remote.pdf

But I am interested in what screens are behind the buttons such as Power, Tune,
Antenna, Mode, et. Al. But I cannot find any documentation beyond this
installation manual. Does it exist? Or does someone know of a youtube video I
can watch that goes through this program? I understand that many folks are
using node-red for control of the KAT, but right now I'm looking to see the
functions of basic application.

Generally, I am wondering if the software supports:

  1. Setting the SWR threshold -- below which, the tuner will consider a
tuning solution to be "done"
Yes - See Configuration tab, SWR Thresholds
  2. Once the tuning solution is found, the manual changing the L's and C's to
fine tune the match as much as possible and then store to memory
Yes - See Operate tab, Capacitance and Inductance adjusters.
  3. Settings for which antenna should be used for which bands
Yes - See Configuration tab, Antennas
  4. Can an antenna be set for use with multiple bands (like OCF dipole)? Or
only one band per antenna?
Yes, any antenna port can be assigned to any bands 160-6 via individual check
boxes or All. See Configuration tab, Antennas.

[Elecraft] KAT500?

[Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Net Announcement

2023-11-19 Thread Dave New, N8SBE
Please join us on 3806kHz (NOTE NOTE NOTE THE NEW FREQUENCY WHICH MOVES
US INTO THE GENERAL CLASS BAND), 9PM ET Sunday (0200Z Monday). Note that
the net stays on the same local time, when we switch back and forth
to/from Daylight time, so the UTC time changes, but not the local time.

Now that we have moved into Standard time and have shorter daylight
hours, 80M should be stronger now during the winter.

Your net control this week will be Dave, N8SBE.

Hope to see you this evening on the net.

[Elecraft] KH1 keyer paddle spring to be changed; replacement paddles to be shipped to all affected users

2023-11-19 Thread Wayne Burdick
We've determined that some KHPD1 keyer paddles were shipped with the wrong
spring, making the action too stiff by a factor of 2 to 3. With the specified
lighter spring, the action is dramatically easier to use.

Starting in about two to three weeks, we'll be shipping replacement paddles
with the correct spring to all affected customers. All KH1s shipped after
November 15th already have this spring installed.

We'd appreciated it if you'd return the original paddle in the supplied
postage-paid envelope.

Please do not contact sales or support about this. We'll automatically ship to
the address on file.

Wayne
