[Elecraft] K2 power
I have a K2 with the KPA100 installed and have just finished the KAT100. I power the rig with an Astron SS30. I have been thinking about where to get power for the KAT100. What I am thinking about doing is to remove and/or jumper D10 in the K2. This would put 12V on the K2's J3 (12V DC Jack) on the back of the K2. I could use J3 as an auxiliary power source, with just a short cable from the K2 to the KAT100. Any comments about this idea? Good Idea or Not? [Elecraft] KPA-100
I'm finished with the KPA-100. Got it on the air this morning. So far everything is working fine business. My first two reports were Excellent tone quality and Outstanding signal very FB. I think that says it all. Elecraft is an outstanding company with outstanding products. I wouldn't expect anything less than an excellent kit with excellent reports. I had alot of fun building this kit. I sort of wish I had not finished yet. I still have to install the new KSB2 firmware, when it arrives. I was using an Icom 706MKIIG while I had the K2 on the bench. I was very happy to get the K2 back in service. Anyone want to trade a K2 for the MKIIG? [Elecraft] KPA-100 Question
I am in the process of building my KPA-100. On page 36 of the manual I am installing C83. The instruction says Place C83 in exactly the position shown... Now the problem, I don't have the room to get C83 in the vertical position. While winding T2, one of the turns crossed over the other, and the windings may be slightly longer because of this. I have C83 mounted but it is not vertical as shown. It is mounted at a slight angle. Question; Do I need to rewind T2 or will I be OK? I am in the process of building my new KPA100. I need to determine the KSB2 firmware revision. Is there a way to do that? Looking at the little sticker on the chip, it reads 104. I have my doubts about that being the firmware revision. I need to have revision 1.06 or later. I have a KIO2 serial port for the Elecraft K2 transceiver for sale. This one has not been hooked up to a computer so I really can't verify if it works. All of the voltages and checks are correct by the instruction manual. I have no reason to believe that anything is wrong with it. My computer doesn't have a serial port so I don't need it. I would like to get $50 for it. Included is the instruction manual and serial port cable. [Elecraft] K2 Reciever
I have had K2 #2571 from its birth about three years ago. (approx.) I have always enjoyed the rig. It has a fantastic RX as I'm sure anyone who has a K2 will attest. Anyway I decided I wanted a QRO rig and bought an IC-706MKIIG about a month ago. Installed the FL-100 CW filter and was ready for the DX. I took my K2 out of service to give the new 706 a try. I didn't like the RX from the start. The audio with the CW filter and or the DSP is just annoying. It was very noisy, like S9 noise level almost continually. The only way I could manage the noise was by turning on the attenuator. Then the radio was even more deaf than before. Fellows I gave the radio a real good try. I suffered with it for over a month. Tonight while listening on low end of 40 meters, with the usual S8-9 noise and hearing only a few strong signals, I thought why am I doing this to myself. I took the 706 out and put the K2 in the same spot. NO NOISE...just good clean signals. It's really unbelievable how quiet the K2 RX really is. One lesson learned, if you have a good thing stick with it. The other thing..the 706 has to go. I just wanted to share this with someone. It's that time of year again. Time for another kit to build. I want a backup for my K2 and a portable rig to take outside, on vacation trips, on day trips to the mountains, ect. I am at the same dilemma as last timewhich one? K1 or KX1??? I have built two KX1's sense building the last K1, so maybe a K1or could it be a K2. WOW!!
