Re: [Elecraft] K3: USB port

2010-11-19 Thread Dan Copeland
I can understand why a lot of old timers want to stay with serial port for
the K3.
Many people just don't like change. The simple fact is the world has moved
on
Something like 15 years ago. USB is the standard and a product like the K3
which
In many ways is cutting edge should move on also.

When was the last time you saw a new computer with serial port or a floppy
drive?
It can't be that hard to change to USB. There are plenty of $10 items that
support it
So it must be cheep. I figure it is a lack of will on Elecraft's part.

As to the negative comments...Can't and won't never did anything.

I'm not sure how you envision moving the audio to USB.

I think putting the USB port in the K3 would open a Pandora's box re:
drivers.

If you're asking to just move the serial to USB adapter into the rig, there
is NO gain.

If you're asking to do away with serial port comms entirely and go to USB
only,
you're creating a huge hassle for the software authors, as well as opening a

Pandora's box re: drivers for it.

[Elecraft] I Love This List

2009-09-19 Thread Dan Copeland
Well guys I have to say I Love This List.
This list has taken what was a cloudy rainy
Yucky day and gave me much enjoyment.

We all know that the K3 isn't perfect but I
Think we can all agree that it is a joy to
Use. At least I love mine. It is the best
I have ever owned in 35+ years as a ham.

As far as Elecraft customer support is concerned,
Anyone that has had to use it knows it has no
Equal in the ham radio world.

OK where's the koolaid?

[Elecraft] filters

2009-08-16 Thread Dan Copeland
I am getting ready to order a K3. I am having trouble
Deciding which filters to order. I want to listen to the
SW bands so am ordering the General coverage module. I
Want either the 6 or the 13kc filters but not both. I
Know if I order the 6 it will not work for FM but if I
Order the 13 will be happy with it on am?

Is there much advantage to getting the 2.8 8 pole
Verses the 2.7 5 pole? Same with the 400hz 8 pole
Vs the 500hz 5 pole.

Thanks for your help

Re: [Elecraft] K3 vs. Icom IC-7600

2009-06-16 Thread Dan Copeland
I still for the life of me can't understand why the K3 didn't
Come with a USB port instead of the outdated com port. That is
One reason I have not bought one yet. Maybe in a future mod
They will address this.

No doubt the K3 performs better but there is one feature on the 7600 that is
nice, the USB port. You can run digital modes from the pc with only one USB
cable which handles serial commands plus audio in/out. The sound card
connection is no longer needed. Several users are running MixW in this
fashion.
