[Elecraft] Cookbook solution to connecting K3, Tokyo HyPwr amp, antenna tuner, antenna switch

2009-11-28 Thread David J Windisch
The K3 controls the THP amp okay using a cable from ArraySolutions:
K3-ACCconnector-to-THP.

I want to add an MFJ autotuner because of reflected power from the 160- and 80M
antennas, and an antenna switch for convenience.

Will a KRC2 with V1.4 firmware be helpful?

What would the cabling need to be?

Dave Windisch, W8FGX

[Elecraft] K3 as successor

2008-01-16 Thread David J Windisch
I've been using (modified) FT-1000D's for long enough to become attached to
them, because they perform well, don't eat much, don't break much in my
habits of semi-serious contesting, DXing, and casual ragchewing. They're
getting long in the tooth, like me, however, so I've been reading up on
replacement candidates.

Trying pileups on 80M and other bands with an ICOM candidate was
disappointing. The conditions are as follows:

DX at noise (you know, he's there, copiable at least part of the time, but
any attenuation and he's not there) listening up 1. Pileup: REALLYBIGSIG1
up 1 and REALLYBIGSIG2 up 2. Result: artifacts all over the passband,
again, you know, those bleeps, burbles, and stuff.

Back to the yy zo to make the Q.

Anybody tested the K3 in battle yet?

I'm all ears ;o)

TIA 73,

Dave, N3HE

[Elecraft] Speech processing

2005-03-04 Thread David J Windisch

Hi, all concerned:

I have an old Comdel in-mic-line r-f clipper, which uses fewer than 100
discrete parts on a 4X6in board.

What the device does is to heterodyne baseband audio to vlf, put it through
a USB filter, limit it, lowpass-filter it, and heterodyne it to baseband.
Inband distortion products are kept down this way.

If there's enough interest, it could be resurrected by retrofitting with
newer parts, eg, inductors other than telco toroids ;o) and kitted.

If anyone knows of contra indications, do please step forward. I've done a
cursory search for Comdel and its successors and found nothing except old
ads and a review in June 1968 HAM RADIO magazine (it sure was a pleasure to
reread some Jim Fisk).

I do recall reading that the unwary occasionally fried amps which couldn't
stand the increase in average power. Caveat user.

If anyone wants to hear what the thing sounds like, I could get on 160-10M
ssb once I figure out the internal mic connections to my to K2/100.
Fingertalk is much easier, for me in any case.

[Elecraft] OT: spam-blocking; SDRadio

2005-01-19 Thread David J Windisch

Hi, all concerned:

1. I've been trying to respond to an individual, Bill in 2-land, who has my
ISP-chain somehow blocked.

So, let it be known throughout the reflector:

Your package is on its way, UPS-gnd-insured.

My thanx to *all* who responded.

2. Has anyone attached the K2 audio or i-f output to the sdradio.org
tuner?

[Elecraft] QSK

2005-01-07 Thread David J Windisch

Hi, all concerned:

I used Ameritron QSK5's with TS-850's and NCL2000's at the kw level. No
problems whatsoever.

Now, my K2/100 03497 is keyed by a Titan 425, which in turn is keyed by an
Econokeyer. No problems whatsoever.

If any one is interested in the 2 QSK5 boxes and manuals, I'm asking $150
each, shipped gnd-insured-conus.

[Elecraft] Noise-reducing cans

2005-01-03 Thread David J Windisch

Hi, all concerned:

I have tinnitus and some hearing loss at age 61, and have found the
PlaneQuiet NC-5 cans helpful in the shack and in the mfg shop where I'm a
tech. They're light, and they reduce the racket from HVAC, refrigerators,
freezers, amp blowers, computer blowers, and so on.

http:www.thetravelinsider.info/roadwarriorcontent'planequietnc6headphones.htm

Some plans fell through, and I have 4 NC-5 sets which were new last month,
in original boxes, with instructions, warranty cards, carrying pouch, and AA
cell. These are the ones over which Bose apparently threatened legal action
over patent infringements of some sort.

The supplier gets $75 a set singly; if you're interested at $60 a set
shipped domestically, pls email me, [EMAIL PROTECTED] off-reflector.

[Elecraft] K2/100 power-out change

2004-09-22 Thread David J Windisch
Hi, all concerned:

I have two K2/100's (34XX and 37XX) which have 40M c-w-mode power-out
variations at a rate of about once a second. For example, if I set 40W out,
they will alternate from 35 to 40W. It happens on a dummy load, into an
antenna, and makes driving an amp interesting ;o)

Haven't tried other bands or modes.

Anyone else out there notice this?

TIA kind regards,

Dave, N3HE
