Re: [Elecraft] New Product Idea - 2 Meter
Yes, I have a Kenwood TS-2000X, which is good for 100 watts on 6m and 2m, 50 watts on 432 MHz and 10 watts on 1296 MHz. I bought it for that purpose. The only thing missing is the 222 MHz band, and the only activity on that band in this, the second-largest metropolitan area in the US, is during contests, and most of that is on FM. Apparently that was not the case here, 10 or so years ago. I don't think your IC-9100 does 222 MHz, either. Re: [Elecraft] New Product Idea - 2 Meter
At the Elecraft presentation that Eric did at Pacificon last year, I threw out this exact idea for his consideration. Given that Elecraft already has the technology to produce tranverters for the K2 and K3 for 2m, 222 MHz and 432 MHz, I suggested a single box to contain all three bands, all modes, and with a minimum of 50 watts output. Eric was receptive to the concept, but said he didn't think that there would be a large enough market for such a transceiver. He's also the business guy with Elecraft, so I have to believe what he said. Submitting the idea to the list a while back, the general consensus seemed to agree, adding that the VHF/UHF weak-signal operator pool is shrinking. [Elecraft] Serious weak-signal VHF operators?
Well, Dave, your observations have caused me to take a second look at the K3(S) with transverters for VHF/UHF weak-signal work. The only problem is, an amplifier to bring the 2m power output of the 2m option for the K3(S) up to 120w or so is around $650 (looking at Mirage) and 120w is not all that much power, absent an antenna with very high gain. But your observation as to the number of serious weak-signal operators caused me to do some research. Looking back 10 years to the 2004 June ARRL VHF contest, and comparing it with the results for the same contest in 2014, the total number of stations submitting logs actually increased from 766 to 1,042. I'd have to say that these results show that we still have a good number of serious weak-signal operators. The January VHF contests from the same 10-year span showed a decrease from 833 to 622 logs submitted, but I might attribute that to having a larger number of operators being able to set up shop on mountaintops, whether portable or rover class, due to better weather conditions in June. The sample size of 1,042 goes to prove what Eric (Elecraft) stated about the limited market for a dedicated VHF/UHF transceiver - and these operators obviously have the required equipment already. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 9/17/2015 10:44 AM, Dave Olean wrote: There used to be a larger number of "serious weak signal VHF operators, but the serious VHF operators are all dying off with no young ones to replace them. I use three K3s and three K2s in my VHF station. I have one Ten Tec OMNI V as well on 432. The big difference between a great HF vs VHF radio is that LO purity and reciprical mixing performance is paramount on VHF, while HF requires the close in dynamic range to be exemplary. I have yet to see a good multi mode or "do all" radio from any manufacturer. I have never used one in my station as a result. Strong signals on VHf can be a huge problem when giant antennas and high locations are in use. Stations 60 or 70 miles away can clobber you very easily. ERP levels can approach 150 KW. I have always been intrigued by the Sherwood numbers for the Kenwood TS-820S and TS-830 with YK88 filters. They don't look so bad in the listing, but they were awful on VHF in strong signal environments with high gain (20 dBd) antennas. Local oscillator noise did not cut it. The K3 with the new synthesizer is about 40 db or more better. I had the Kenwoods back in the 90's and dumped them for K2s and Ten Tec radios. What a difference. The K3 is icing on the cake. I started using them soon after they came out. They are great on VHF and not too shabby on 160 meters also. (heh heh) I don't think I can recall an overload problem with the Elecraft radios or the Ten Tec OMNI for that matter. The OMNI V used crystal oscillators in the 1st LO, so it was pretty clean. The new K3 synthesizer is awesome. It can handle a 0 dBm signal next to a -135 dBm signal and live to tell about it! I have the 144 built in transverter in one of my K3's, but have not used it as it is too low power to drive my big amplifier. Someday I'll resolve that situation and it should work great. Of course VHF contesting is different in different parts of the country. I live in rural Maine about 250 or 275 miles from New York City. I am on the edge of the golden activity corridor. From my place, it is unwise to use multi mode Japanese rigs for serious contesting. Between the deafness and LO phase noise problems, you would have your hands full. Another ham 50 miles away could have a KW and large antenna that was line of sight or almost line of sight, and squash your receiver like a bug. Every VHF band here has a good HF radio for the receiver. Re: [Elecraft] On VHF & UHF radios
That could be, Bob. I should have phrased my question more specifically. My intended use for such a transceiver would be weak-signal work. I had the 2m option for the K3 but, with its low power output, I sold it and bought a Kenwood TS-2000X to be dedicated to VHF/UHF operation. However, this type of operation demands high power (at least 100w) and an antenna with high gain, so I would have to buy an external amplifier at any rate. Thus, I might re-think the 2m option from Elecraft. It's a bonus that The K3(S) can handle up to nine transverters. At a convention way back in 2001, I became interested in working the satellites and bought a Yaesu FT-847. The interest waned eventually, so I sold the 847 toward the purchase of the TS-2000X. And no, I don't plan to use the TS-2000X on HF; not when I have a K3 and a K3S. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 9/16/2015 5:03 AM, Bob McGraw - K4TAX wrote: I don't view there are many serious VHF and UHF operators today, i.e. sufficient to warrant a high performance radio. Re: [Elecraft] K3 / K3S Station setup question
It seems like my shack is in a constant state of reconfiguration. Then I had to complicate things by buying a K3S and a Flex-6700 at the Huntsville Hamfest. My initial plan was to build a "horseshoe" configuration; much like the computer room at a former office. Over time the XYL, who was a Geology/Earth Science professor, covered three of the four walls with six-foot-tall bookcases. Now that she has passed, I have the task of selling/donating all of her book collection. Eventually I will be able to reclaim the space and have the configuration that I wanted in the first place. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft SP3 External Speaker details
We should be grateful that we are dealing with a company like Elecraft, where the principals listen to what their customers want and, wherever possible, accommodate these requests. Having a matching speaker was a requested item some time ago, if memory serves. If it's not possible for an individual to justify the cost, then the simple answer is not to buy it. My one request to Eric, last year at his presentation at Pacificon, was for a standalone, all-mode transceiver for 2m and above. My rationale was that, since Elecraft sells transverters for 2m, 220 MHz and 432 MHz, they already have the technology to make this possible. It came down to the fact that there may not be a large enough market for such a transceiver. Re: [Elecraft] Touch-screen displays
On vintage radios, when you flip a switch or turn a knob, you can be fairly certain of the result. One problem that I have with touchscreens, with some regularity, is that of certainty that the touch accomplished the intended task. Sometimes I barely graze an icon with my finger, and other times I almost have to stand on it, or touch it repeatedly, to achieve results. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 9/3/2015 11:28 PM, Bill Frantz wrote: What I have noticed over the years is that the UI hardware has gotten worse. I quickly discovered that the keyboard on my Mac laptop wasn't good enough for fast typing. I bought a HP keyboard which isn't as good as the old IBM Selectric keyboards, but is better than the Mac keyboard. All the touch screen keyboards I have used have been much worse than either of these two keyboards. If you need tactile feedback, touch screens don't have any. For those who want to experiment with touch screens and the K3/K3s/KX3, a programming project will let you use the programming interface to the radios and a touch screen computer to prototype this kind of interface. It seems to me that, if the calculated weight of the shipment exceeds the limit for First Class Mail, the option could be "grayed out" or a message to that effect could be displayed next to the "Shipped to you via:" field. Re: [Elecraft] Rig Insurance
You make a good point, about homeowners' insurance. A couple of years ago, we had a hot water leak in the wall between the kitchen and the bathroom. Our homeowners' insurance covered not only a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel, but also the hotel room and meals when we were displaced from the house. It cost the company in the realm of $35,000, and I didn't notice the rate increasing the following year. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft and expandability
Since I probably started the cheap hams thread with my comments about Visalia, maybe I should help to refocus the discourse. Dave brings up a good point about Elecraft products. From the K2 at the beginning, it was possible to buy a very basic (I won't say stripped-down) radio and expand it as operational needs dictate and the budget allows. Maybe a ham couldn't afford a full-blown K3 with all of the options initially, but he could squeeze enough out of the budget to buy a K3/10. Added savings could be had by ordering the kit version. Eventually he could add the needed modules to finish the job. Try that with any of the Big Three manufacturers of ham gear. The new synth boards are a good example. With Yaecomwood, the newer version of the K3 would be the K3-Plus, for example. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 4/21/2015 10:51 PM, dyarnes wrote: Ken and all, Where I think a lot of hams make their mistake is by under-buying. [Elecraft] OT: Warm climate for a vacation/be-the-DX winter holiday?
After spending the second holiday season in San Diego, and last year it was Tucson, the XYL announced that next year she'd like to go someplace warm. Yes, temperatures in the 50s in December feel cold to us. The area where we live is between LA and Palm Springs, but our climate more closely approximates that of Palm Springs. I know that many fellow amateurs head for the Caribbean nations for this purpose. That would work, as would somewhere in the South Pacific. Anyone have any suggestions, based on past experiences? Criteria are: -- somewhere that English is the primary language, or is spoken widely -- possibly a country with reciprocal-operating privileges for a US licensee -- easy to get there via commercial airlines -- no hassles with customs, coming or going, with amateur gear -- ease of getting a license/callsign for that country, if not reciprocal -- good accommodations (villa for rent for a week or so); turnkey ham station on premises is a plus so that we don't have to take much equipment; hotel with room for a simple antenna -- nearby restaurants, although cooking facilities would be helpful We've ruled out the following: -- Hawaii - probably the easiest option, but is nuts with tourists during the holidays. -- Mexico - difficult to get a license without knowing whom to bribe - been there before and don't like it -- The XYL looked into Belize, but I'd worry about drugs/crime anywhere in Central America. Costa Rica, perhaps? Any and all suggestions are appreciated. [Elecraft] Software modifications
I'm a big fan of open-source software but, as a software developer/supervisor with more than 30 years experience, I think it's worthwhile to know the big picture before messing with software that another developer wrote. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] UPS for K3
Interesting! I was thinking along the same lines about a UPS for the shack, but for a different reason. Aren't today's solid-state radios susceptible to damage from transients, much like our computers are? I would not turn on a computer that was not first connected to a quality UPS with surge protection. So, maybe not so much for backup, as most UPS are designed to continue to supply power to the computer and peripherals long enough to effect an orderly shutdown. We don't suffer from protracted power outages here, but rather from sags in the line voltage. This is especially true in the summer, when temperatures reach 100F and higher. But, what about surge suppression for our shack equipment? Or is this a silly question? Are we more susceptible to damage from lightening than from dirty power? 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 7/21/2014 5:30 AM, Dennis Griffin wrote: Here is a link to the PWRgate that I believe Bruce is referring to. Re: [Elecraft] K1-4 4 band version gone? (Hand SMT---Never)
I have to agree with Mike, especially with the assertion about SMT components being intended for robotic assembly. Imagine all of the troubleshooting calls and e-mails that Elecraft would get if Joe Ham had to populate circuit boards with these miniature components. Too much room for error. While I'd prefer a through-hole kit where soldering was required (although I hate winding toroids!), like the K1 and K2, if the KX3 had even one SMT device, I would not have purchased one. 72/73 de Jim - AD6CW On 7/20/2014 9:55 AM, Mike Morrow wrote: ... perhaps it is time for Elecraft to start offering some big boy kits that make full use of SMTs and other modern components. Perhaps not...yet I'm not hesitant to state that hand-application of SMT components is a half-vast :-) misapplication of technique to devices designed solely for machine placement. It should never be required in any step of production of a commercial product, even for hams. So, to any enterprise proposing to *sell* something that requires significant SMT hand-application, I would *not* give such a product even a moment's consideration. OTOH, supply the PCBs with SMTs pre-fixed by machine as designed, and I'll likely be very interested. Any serious ham should have a good digital 'scope, and a hot air solder station with a syringe of solder paste (which can be bought new for less than $100). Well...there you go again. I suspect most of us will just *never* qualify as a N4OI serious ham, for lack of meeting these canonical and doubtless universally-recognized requirements for the title. :-) 73, Mike / KK5F __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] K1-4 4 band version gone? (Hand SMT---Never)
More power to you and others who have the patience, equipment and eyesight/hand coordination to work with SMT devices, Bruce. I think what many of us are saying, is that type of construction is not for everyone. I have a nice Weller soldering station and a variety of tips for it, as well as enough 63/37 solder to last a lifetime. Somehow it fell into my tool pouch from time to time, when I was in the Air Force working on air traffic control radar systems. :-) I'd rather spend my money on other items for the shack, than for the tools necessary to do SMT work. Maybe if there hadn't been the inference that we weren't big boys if we didn't build kits with SMT devices, this thread may have passed, unnoticed. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 7/20/2014 4:32 PM, Bruce Beford wrote: While I understand this mindset; I for one, am grateful that there are SMT-based kits available. Re: [Elecraft] DESK MICROPHONES FOR K3
When I was in college, I had a few friends who were involved in the local AM and FM broadcasting scene. I didn't need anyone to tell me that I didn't have a good radio voice, so I got involved in the engineering side of the house. So, getting the optimal mic, and making the optimal equalization settings, would be of limited value in my case. It's sort of like my photography efforts - expensive camera and lenses with a poor photographer behind the camera. If I shoot a good photo, it's purely by accident. Besides, I've loved CW since day one (note callsign). 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 7/9/2014 11:19 AM, Ray Sills wrote: I have to agree with Phil on this. I am by no means a crackerjack CW operator. But, I find with my KX3, that most of the time I operate CW. It just gives me more bang for the buck when running 5 watts with my KX3. I have the MH3 mic, and have used it now and then. In the past (QRO days) I did more voice operating. But, for me, the goal here is to have intelligible audio, and there is little value in transmitting any frequencies lower than 200 Hz. You're better off generating RF that excludes those low frequencies. Still, it is handy to have an on-board equalizer, so that you can make some tweaks to the audio response -for your individual voice-. I used to work in broadcasting, both radio and television, so I understand that it's desirable for broadcast media to have a full bandwidth audio sound. But, the fact is, that even with broadcasting, we would make individual adjustments -for each person- who was using a mic, so as to make them sound good.. which was and still is a personal decision made by the audio operator. The good audio operators, know how to adjust their audio mixing consoles to optimize the sound, and how it sits in the mix. It's more an art, than a science. And, one of the concerns when adjusting things was how would this audio sound on a TV or radio with a small speaker. Those types of operators are referred to as having golden ears, since they made the audio sound good on tiny speakers, as well as high quality audiophile speakers. So, I also prefer broadcast audio for broadcasting, and communications audio for communicating. 73 de Ray K2ULR KX3 #211 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

As an experiment, one cold and rainy weekend (about as close as we get to winter) last year, I programmed all of the local 2m, 220 and 440 repeaters into a scanner and let it do its job. Surprisingly, compared with 10 or so years ago, most were dead quiet. Back then, 220 was a nice alternative to the crowding and overuse of many of the 2m repeaters. And 440 is definitely a different story here. Most are closed or private. I'm not debating the fairness of this phenomenon; just stating a fact. Most of us have one or a few favorite repeaters anyway. I, too, disliked it when the transition to AT-style keyboards, with all of the function keys along the top, was made. Unfortunately, after a while, my old original keyboard, and my wife's, gave out and we had to adjust. My first professional programming jobs involved using the good-old IBM 3278 terminals. Larry, I recently sold a 6 kHz AM filter after I realized that I have two of them. It was clearly printed on the body of the filter that it was made by Inrad. Re: [Elecraft] Field day radio
Well, count me (us) as biased. For the past few years, the Zuni Loop QRP Field Day has been an almost-exclusively Elecraft event. Most stations use a K2, and one operator brought his K3. Last year, Cam received his KX3 just in time to bring it and put it through its paces. I expect that we'll see more KX3s this year. BTW, this will be the 30th anniversary of the Zuni Loop Mountain Expeditionary Force Field Day, from 7,000' in the San Gabriel Mountains of southern California. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft UPS deliveries
I see that you're in New York. Welcome to my pain, if I order anything from the east coast and it travels UPS Ground. Fortunately, I'm two business days away from Elecraft, whether I specify UPS or Priority Mail. The advantage to Priority Mail is that there are Saturday deliveries, at least for the time being. Isn't Amazon Prime great? After holding out for a long time, I recently signed up. No more waiting until I have $35 worth to order, to get the free shipping (and then wait while they take their time to ship). Case in point: I ordered four ARRL books on the weekend. Three are here already (arrived yesterday) and the fourth, coming from Delaware, should be here today, thanks to UPS Second-Day Air. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft UPS deliveries
Well, with UPS, delivery time is a crapshoot. I've had normal UPS shipments arrive at the house anywhere from 10 AM up to 8:30 PM. In the latter case, I'm not even talking about the holiday season (it was Halloween). I had given up on that delivery, even though the status showed that it was out for delivery, so we went out for dinner. When we got home, I checked the delivery time on the UPS tracking site, and it was approximately 8:30. Today, I'm waiting for a delivery that was shipped via UPS Second-Day Air. Here it is 1430L, and no package yet. To be fair, though, the delivery commitment is stated as By End of Day. Joining UPS My Choice is a good idea. I can give them authorization, on a one-time or a blanket basis, to leave any package that doesn't require a signature. While UPS deems the QTH to be in a safe delivery area, I have to admit being a bit nervous about a nearly-$800 CrankIR antenna being delivered when we were out for a while yesterday. As luck would have it, though, we were both here when the truck pulled up at about 3 PM. [Elecraft] OT: Report from the International DX Convention in Visalia, CA
The XYL and I took in the convention this weekend. It was a great time, as usual. This was the second year that the convention has been held at the convention center downtown Visalia, and is a great improvement over the old Holiday Inn, when we attended in the 90s. We visited the exhibit hall on Friday afternoon, and the first stop was at the Elecraft booth, as always. Just when I thought that it would be only a social visit, Eric had a new option for the KX3 to show off - the PX3 panadapter. It looks every bit like the P3, but is scaled in size to match the KX3. At 13 ounces and 140 ma current consumption, it should even make some trips to the field and to Field Day. Most of the vendors' wares were more suited to the QRO gang. US Tower, Alpha Amplifiers and Force12 and N6BT Antennas had representatives and gear present. There were five excellent presentations Saturday afternoon about recent DXpeditions: Navassa, Banaba, Lakshadweep, Myanmar and Swaziland. The photos and videos were amazing! Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft compared to the Sienna transceiver
If my math is correct, and to compare apples with apples, for a Sienna 100-watt transceiver with tuner, front panel, the full 11 bypass filters and a 500-Hz and a 300-Hz filter, the price is $3,810. For the same options, I have $4,249.30 in my K3. I included options that matched those in the Sienna, but omitted $439.90 in options for the K3 that I have but are not available for the Sienna (i.e. DVR and 2m module). So, for a mere $439.30 less, I get a through-hole kit that I can build (fun!) without getting into SMT installation and wind my own toroids (not fun!) for which we have no lab results from ARRL or Sherwood Engineering to compare with the K3. BTW, I used the kit prices for my K3, as that's the way that I purchased it. So, an old-school kit vs. a mechanical-only assembly kit. It's an odd-looking front panel; unlike typical JA or US designs. At first I thought it might be European, but apparently the designer is here in the US. Both Elecraft and Ten-Tec used this as a selling point for their respective offerings. Looks like several of you are waiting, either until any bugs are worked out, or until it's available from stock. Right now, it's still looking like 1-2 weeks, according to the latest shipping status from Elecraft. 73 de Jim - AD6CW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Percentage of KX3 owners who bought a KXPA100
A while ago, someone postulated about the percentage of KX3 owners who might also buy a KXPA100 amp. At the time, I though that it sounded a bit high. Today I read that KXPA100 #605 had been received, as has KX3 #5485. My math shows that only 11% of KX3 owners are also owners of the KXPA100. I don't expect this percentage to change much with time, now that (I believe) Elecraft has caught up with all of the pre-orders on the KXPA100 and, certainly, the KX3. I also believe that almost everyone who was on the proverbial fence about either, has jumped in and ordered at this point. It will be interesting to see what the trend is on the 2m module. I'm hoping that the big announcement will be made soon, and the gate opened for pre-orders on the 2m module; at least, before I go in the hospital for surgery on the 24th. 72/73 de Jim - AD6CW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Root of problems
When I first saw peanut whistle, I assumed that Larry was talking about QRP rigs. Then I re-read what he had written. Maybe not so much today, since a computer has become such an integral part of the hamshack, but there was a time 10 or so years ago that guys would scour the swapmeets and buy some obsolete (to me) computer for the shack. Maybe then it was just to have a computer for logging, but today there are myriad uses for a computer. I say obsolete to me because I spent 30+ years as a software developer. During that time, I saw many lay people who should never touch a keyboard. I'm not necessarily talking about the clerical staff, but folks with advanced degrees, as well. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 2/10/2014 11:52 AM, Bill Turner wrote: ORIGINAL MESSAGE: (may be snipped) On 2/10/2014 9:14 AM, Larry Wassmann wrote: the majority of reported problems have something to do with the digital modes. I've been using digital modes, RTTY and others, since 1993 and I have yet to find a computer that will not run these digital programs satisfactorily. None of the digital modes presently being used by hams demand much of a computer as long as it can run Windows XP or later and has enough com ports. Having said that however, I agree with the very last part of your post. Some people have endless problems with computers and need help with even the simplest things. I have a non-ham friend who calls me about once a week with problems, most of which are repeats of previous calls. He is a smart guy but just has a mental block about computers. Sigh. 73, Bill W6WRT __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] [K3]: AM filter question
I was tidying up the shack yesterday, and came upon a box with the Elecraft label. Curious, I looked inside and found a couple of wire antennas from PAR Electronics that I bought at Dayton and not one, but two, 6 kHz AM filters for the K3. Apparently I didn't install one when I ordered the FM filter, which also works for AM, and bought another at some point in time, not realizing that I had one already. I do have the KRX3 2nd RX, but can't really think of an occasion where I'd need to work split with AM. If not, I'll have one for sale, NIB. I think that someone said $115 is a fair price? 73 de Jim - AD6CW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Heck, Charlie, Icom did the same with the IC-706 (the XYL has one of the originals). They didn't even change the model number, only the suffix, and it's on the third incarnation. 73 de Jim - AD6CW Happy with my K3 and KX3 On 2/9/2014 12:40 PM, Charlie T, K3ICH wrote: You want product obsolesance.?...How about the Icom's progression of new improved starting with the IC-756, followed by the IC-756PRO, IC-756PRO II, IC-756PRO III , and finally (?) the IC-7600. I'll admit, they suckered ME into ithad 'em all. Glad that the XYL claims it, although she isn't active at the time. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 2/9/2014 4:11 PM, Jim Brown wrote: On 2/9/2014 3:08 PM, Jim Lowman wrote: Icom did the same with the IC-706 (the XYL has one of the originals). Re: [Elecraft] Fraud
Trying to reach anyone at Yahoo has turned out to be an exercise in futility. A good friend owns a nice gift shop nearby. Her old computer died, and I've been helping her get a new one. It arrived yesterday. Apparently, her Yahoo e-mail account has been compromised - as have several others, no doubt. I couldn't even find a support phone number for Yahoo anywhere on their website. I had to Google for it. Then, she kept getting the usual, Due to heavy calling... and being disconnected. In the meantime, communications from vendors and curious prospective buyers are piling up in her inbox that she can't access. Hopefully, they will call her business number when their e-mails are going unanswered. The usual, easy way to reset a password doesn't work, because the compromise apparently points to some cell phone number that isn't hers. And, she hadn't set up an alternate e-mail address or a security question. I explained that it's not the best idea to have an e-mail account for her business with one of these free e-mail providers. But she's operating on a shoestring, thanks to the state of the economy. The scary part is that Yahoo is actually the ISP behind my SBCGlobal.net address. However, ATT might have better luck with Yahoo if I had a problem. 73 de Jim - AD6CW On 2/6/2014 4:05 PM, Lynn W. Taylor, WB6UUT wrote: Seriously folks. Trying to find someone who will bother to understand that at any big provider is at least as difficult as teaching a pig to sing. Trying to find someone who cares would be several orders of magnitude harder. 73 -- Lynn __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
