Re: [Elecraft] Fluorescent RFI solved
Not all FEIT LED's are RFI-free. At the local Red Cross office I tracked down a horrible RFI problem to 23 FEIT BR30 13-watt track/flood lights in a nearby business. That business owner returned them to Costco for a refund (even though they had been installed for several years) and replaced them with Ecosmart lights from Home Depot. Those were RFI-free. Any time you buy a LED light, you need to test it for RFI before installing it. If you buy a bunch of LEDs, test them all. There might be just one that is making RFI, even though they all appear identical. --Mark K7NEW -- Mark Newbold Port Angeles, Washington, USA __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K2 mic gain super low on 20 meters
Hi all, I acquired a secondhand K2/100 with KAT100 ATU a while back. The amp and ATU are in a separate enclosure. I have used it mostly for CW, but lately I have been using it for digital with a MicroHam DXP interface. When operating digital I keep an eye on the transmitter ALC level, where I expect to see 1 bar. I noticed recently that on 20 meters I can't get even 1 bar on the ALC meter, even turning the DXP's TX audio level up a lot. The RF output meter shows very low output power. No similar problem on 80, 40, 30 meters. I plugged in a Heil Proset mic and observed the same behavior -- when I speak into the mic there is plenty of TX audio on 80 and 40 meters (too much in fact, even speaking very softly). On 20 meters I have to yell into the mic to get 1 bar of ALC. This is with the output power set to 50 watts, Mic gain set to "2" (choices are "1", "2" and "3"), compression set to "1", ATU disabled (set to CAL). Any ideas of why the mic gain would be super low on just one band? --Mark K7NEW -- Mark Newbold Port Angeles, Washington, USA __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] Key Clicks
I'm going to jump in here with my 2 cents worth, because I would REALLY like Elecraft to clean up the QSK on the KX3. Recently I've been noticing annoying pops in the speaker when sending CW. Maybe they've always been there. I never noticed them before. It's been a while since I installed firmware, so they must have been present but ignored for a while at least. They really jumped out at me when I started playing with a new sideswiper paddle last week. The pops happen at key-up, not key-down. They are heard with the internal speaker and also with external speaker or headphones. The pops are present when using the internal keyer, with an external keyer, and with a hand key. If I send a series of dits while varying the keyer speed (with external keyer), the pops are most pronounced around 19 wpm. My KX3 is S/N 77, on FW 2.11. Dual watch is not active. RIT and XIT are off. My AFX mode is DELAY. My QSK delay is set to 0.01 to try and reduce the QSK thumping. --Mark K7NEW On 9/13/2014 03:42, Joel Black wrote: With my KX3 terminated into a dummy load, split and dual watch active, VFO B 1 - 5.3 kHz up or down from VFO A, filter set to 450 Hz and centered, I am getting key clicks on VFO B. Re: [Elecraft] K3/KX3 and Bluetooth Headphones
Be aware that bluetooth audio is useless for CW work. There's too much latency to use it with a paddle. The sidetone you hear in the bluetooth headset is out of sync with the keying. --Mark -- Mark Newbold K7NEW Sequim, Washington, USA http://dogfeathers.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] PX3??? What about fixing QSK on the KX3?
I'd like to see Elecraft fixing the KX3's bugs before moving on to the next product. In particular, the horrible thumping QSK needs to be fixed ASAP. See: 2013 Contest Radio Performance talk by Rob Sherwood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOf2OOGeGi8 (Jump to 17 min 23 sec) QSK a big disappointment with lots of clicks on receive audio I've had my KX3 for almost 2 years now. Re: [Elecraft] anyone using iMic with K3 or KX3 and FLdigi on a PC?
Julie, I'll be doing what you're doing, but there is an issue that I have to resolve first. I have the iMic and the KXUSB cable plugged into my Toshiba laptop. NaP3 is showing strong spikes intervals of slightly over 1 kHz. Those are coming from the KXUSB cable. Unplugging the cable from the Toshiba gets rid of the spikes. (It doesn't matter whether the cable is plugged in to the KX3 or not.) I've got a USB-to-serial adapter on order. If I can use that on the Toshiba without getting the spikes, I'll be ordering the KXSER cable, though the $30 price of the KXSER is hard to swallow. Then, maybe I can move ahead. --Mark K7NEW On 8/28/2013 12:30, Julie Royster wrote: Is anyone using iMic with FLdigi on a PC with either K3 or KX3? If so I would appreciate knowing your setup! Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] Boost Buck 13.8 V Regulator
Regarding that first regulator, the QSKJ QS-1212CCBA-80W, I have one of those. The IN- and VO- connections are apparently not wired together internally. You can't look inside because the whole thing is potted in some solid substance. In the interest of having all my equipment on a common ground, I wired the IN- and VO- together. Now the red error light is lit all the time (even when those connections are not wired together). And the device shuts down regularly (output voltage drops to zero until power-cycled). I don't know whether the failure was caused by wiring the connections together, or whether it's just coincidence. The thing doesn't make much hash at KX3 receive current levels, but hash increases if you draw more current from it. --Mark K7NEW On 5/15/2013 11:41 AM, Jon Moody wrote: Hi Glenn, I have purchased both of these DC-DC power converters and have been very happy with them.
