[Elecraft] kx3 foldback setting?

2014-04-28 Thread Reginald J Mackey SR

Is there a swr foldback setting in in the kx3? I can't find such. my friends
kx3 keeps folding power back while swr is 1.1 or 1.2. I suspect it should not
until at least 2.1. any help?

 Dave,

What I'm having are not clunks - they are truly clicks. And they happen
when the KX3 returns from a transmit state to a receive state. I hear it with
the external speaker somewhat, but more so with headphones turned on. This is
probably due to the fact that there are other things in the room that I'm
hearing, while with the cans on my head, I hear nothing but the KX3. And in
my case, I can remove those clicks about 99.9% by turning off NR. I'm pretty
confident that Wayne the crew will have this one resolved pretty quickly.

never been disappointed with their performance.

I'm trying to understand, Alan, so could you please. define
performance, and please tell us in what application, at what
frequency, and how you actually KNOW their performance.

Unless you're using them in critical small signal applications at UHF,
I'd call that a very poor allocation of financial resources. I can
think of many better ways to spend $100. The loss through a quality
PL259 or N connector is negligible in most real world applications, and
there are simple and effective methods of waterproofing them.

BTW -- the nicest male N connectors I've found for RG8/213-sized cable
are made by Andros Engineering, a machine shop owned by a ham. They're
a 2-piece connector, with both center and shield rigidly assembled to
the same part to which you solder both center and shield, then screw the
outer shell onto it. Very easy to do, and zero possibility of shield
migration.

[Elecraft] swr/rf : comp/alc

2013-09-11 Thread Reginald J Mackey SR
I have experimented with meter setting this morning after reading something
about it on the list.
If I tap the keyer/mic button it just changes between the modes, pwr, wpm, and
mic. the meter does not change state,
If i tap the mic and adjust mic, then the meter changes to comp/alc as long as
I am making adjustments. When adjustments
are done, the meter auto reverts back to swr/rf. It will not remain on
comp/alc.

Is that correct?

Alarm systems in general, at least in North America, are notoriously bad for
RF susceptibility. The coupling mechanisms are primarily poorly filtered
signal wiring, Pin One Problems, poor circuit layout, and poor shielding. To
the extent that it has less external wiring, a wireless system MIGHT be less
problematic, but those other mechanisms are still there. Suppression methods
 are addressed in http://k9yc.com/RFI-Ham.pdf

I also see on the list that a lot of you use a sound card interface

If the KX3 has enough isolation, is more isolation needed?

What am I missing?

is involved in Ham radio is moving your fingers and maybe lips a little.. I
can't even start to understand how it could be even remotely called a sport.
