[Elecraft] No Waterfall Display in FLDIGI when KX3 is in DATA mode
I recently connected my KX3 with a Signaling USB interface and using FLDIGI on my Macbook Pro. I was NOT receiving any signals on the waterfall display when I was in the DATA mode recommended in the KX3 Owners Manual. However, I was able to receive signals if I switched to USB. I was able to transmit and control the ALC to 4-5 bars with the Signalink only if I was in USB but it didn’t have any affect if in DATA mode . Two questions: 1. Is there something obvious in my settings (maybe in FLDIGI ?) that allows me to receive nice signals on the waterfall in USB mode but not in the KX3’s data mode? 2. Is it (OK) to communicate in PSK31 mode with the KX3 in USB as long as my transmit ALC is kept to 3-5 bars? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as I’m tearing my hair out (what’s left of it) NE7RD __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] 4:1 Balun Question
I built the BL-1, 4:1 balun in 2005 and just pulled it out to look at it. I have somehow misplaced the original construction sheet I received with the balun. Comparing the construction sheet that is currently on the website to how my balun is hooked up, it appears that I didn't hook it up on the output side the same way the current construction sheet shows. Was there a change in the instructions or did I completely space it out? Is there a link to the old instructions so I can compare to how I built it? Any help appreciated. Re: [Elecraft] KX1 3080 Module High Current Now No power Out
Don: I rechecked that Pad E is connected to the proper point. Prior to installing the LPF board, I made the checks on page 11 of the 3080 meter module and saw 5 vdc on Pad F as stated in the last step of Box 1. I see from my notes that at this point I did record 47 ma in step 3 on page 11 vs. the suggested 34-37 ma. I have lifted the wire from the bottom of the KX1 board that runs from Pad F and then to the + side of C9 to try and replicate what I was reading before the installation of the LPF board. Here are the readings: 3.533 Mhz, Pad E = 6.3 mv, Pad F = 0.7 VDC, Pad D = 4.83 VDC 7.039 Mhz, Pad E = 5.01 VDC, Pad F = 0.2 mv, Pad D = 0.2 mv 6.710 MHz, Pad E = 5.01 VDC, Pad F = 0.2 mv, Pad D = 4.83 VDC 10.120 MHz, Pad E = 5.01 VDC, Pad F = 0.2 mv, Pad D = 4.9 VDC 14.100 MHz, Pad E = 5.01 VDC, Pad F = 0.2 mv, Pad D = 0.2 mv All above readings on Pad 5 = 5 VDC I'm considering removing the LPF board and going back to where I was after initial installation of the 3080 board, when I was getting the 5 VDC on Pad F on 80 meters... not sure what that will tell me, but it would be doing something hi hi. What is the voltage on pad E when you are on 80 meters? Make certain that you have pad E connected to the proper point (see KXB3080 manual figure 7). Pad E is the control, pad F is the output. 73, Don W3FPR Steve Watkins wrote: Things have been going down hill this last weekend. Maybe I haven't troubleshot this correctly, but it seems I should be seeing 5 vdc on Pad F through Q1 on 80 meters. Kind of floundering now and could use some bright mind input. [Elecraft] KX1 High Current
Just completed the 3080 module...more challenging than the KX1 itself. I am experiencing higher current on 80 meters than the manual suggests (65 ma).. I'm seeing 106 ma. This is with the board on the bench, not in the case. I've noted at other places in my Elecraft building experience that the recommended current in the manual has been lower than what is ammended through discussion and errata's ?? Is 106 ma acceptable? Receive on 20 and 40 seem fine. Thanks, Steve ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] KX1 40 meter Peak
All: I am in the process of doing receiver alignment on the KX1 after installing the 3080 module. I am unable to detect any peak on 40 meters during alignment, similar to what I heard during the basic KX1 receiver alignment, prior to installing the 3080 module. Does this indicate a problem with the 3080 module construction or installation? The 20 meter peaks are dicernable but not the 40 meter now? [Elecraft] K2 lost tuning on 10 meters
I was checking the bands this evening and noticed that the tunng knob had no effect on 10 meters. All other bands change frequency just fine when the knob is turned, but on 10 meters the frequency display stays right at 28000, with no change when the knob is turned. Any ideas of what may cause this? I'm not sure at this time I'm missing much on 10 meters, but it does seem odd that only that band doesn't change. All help appreciated. [Elecraft] KX1 D2 Voltage checks high
The voltages I'm seeing on both the cathode and anode of D2 are higher than called for in the manual. I am seeing approximately 0.225 volts a.c. on one end and about 0.110 volts a.c on the other end of the diode. Pins #1 of U1 and pin #6 of U3 show about 3mv. I rechecked to assure the three capacitors mentioned in the note at the bottom of page 28 were installed in the correct orientation, and also rechecked the solder connections. The note mentions stray a.c. may be being picked up as noise and to try a different DMM. I do not have another DMM at the moment to check it with. Any ideas from my Elecraft family? Should I continue on or not proceed until I get this corrected or checked with a different DMM? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. [Elecraft] KX1 High ac on D2
Don, I connected a battery and now the readings are unstable... not consistentrechecked the solder connections. So, the high a.c. reading is now fluctuating, although I believe it may have been on the regular power supply. [Elecraft] KSB2 Fine Carrier Adjustment
Thanks to Jerry, WA2DKG, I got past the Deaf K2 by plugging the speaker into the P5 on the RF board vs. the Control Board. I'm not sure how or where I missed that it should be plugged in there, but it works, so things weren't shorted after all on the KSB2 board. Now I'm at the Fine Carrier Balance Adjustment section (Page 19 in the KSB2 Manual), and am not sure how to hear the K2's transmitted signal on a external receiver. Since the K2 is connected to a dummy load, am I to run a short piece of wire from the external receiver and locate it near the dummy load to hear this? [Elecraft] K2 Nearly Dead following SSB module installation
K2 was working wonderfully on CW, and decided to finally install the SSB module I'd completed months ago. Picked up on the steps where I left off by removing two jumpers, W2 and W3, and resistor 167 (Page 13 of the KSB2 book). The board plugged in snuggly, and the K2 powered up with the Elecraft name on the display. However, the speaker is now absolutely deaf. With head phones I can hear some CW, but nothing from the speaker, and it certainly doesn't sound as good as before I removed the jumpers and resistor and installed the SSB module. I get the SSBA and SSBC in the menu display OK. The next step (Third step on page 15 of the KSB2 SSB Adapter assembly and operating instruction book) states to Tap MODE to select CW mode. I presume this means AFTER you have exited the MENU function. Anyone encounter this problem or have an idea of where to go next? [Elecraft] K1 Receives as good or better than K2
I have read the 25 reasons commonly found for K2 poor reception, and many other posts. My K2 receives, transmits, and I get good reports. All of the resistance and voltage checks were right on the mark. The alignment was done by the manual, but as I recall there were some times that I did not hear real sharp changes when aligning. It just seems that the K1 is receiving a bit better than the K2. Shouldn't the K2 receive better than the K1? Would realigning with a better source (N-gen vs. by ear) possibly be the cure? Thank you ahead of time for any suggestions that may help me solve what I think? is a problem. Heck, maybe the K1 is just that good and out hears the K2? [Elecraft] K1 Assistance (Power out during transmitter alignment)
I was recently at the transmitter alignment stage, and apparently did not fully understand the procedure. I did not exit the TUNE mode, but kept tweeking the pots for max power. I melted the grommet, but was getting 6+ watts out up until that time. Elecraft graciously sent me a new Q7, which I was hoping was the only thing I damaged. I now do not get any power out when attempting the alignment procedure. Maybe I damaged other components? I do not, or have not built an RF probe, and am kind of new to this electronic testing. Does anyone have some suggestions so I can again see poer out? Kind of sitting here stumped at the moment and would appreciate any suggestions to get me moving along.
