[Elecraft] KIO2, KPA100 - is SWR value available via RS232?

2009-03-14 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Thinking about remoting my K2 (currently QRP with KAT2, one
day with KPA100) via TCP/IP (e.g. with Ham Radio Deluxe), I
would like to know if SWR value is available via
- KIO2 serial interface?
- KPA100 built-in serial interface?

or do I need some external device like W1?

I am going to use an external non-automatic tuner, that's
why I need a monitoring of SWR - via PC because of remoting.

Re: [Elecraft] KIO2, KPA100 - is SWR value available via RS232?

2009-03-14 Thread ub5_073_oleg
David, thanks for your reply!

I gave it a try in a terminal program.

After connection at 4800 baud,
DS; returns the frequency
SW20; enters tune mode (I changed the tune mode to CALS to
have enoogh time for the following command)
DS; returns a ?, although I see the SWR on K2's LCD

Am I doing something wrong? My firmware is 2.04P 1.09

[Elecraft] Re: phase detector for tuning magnetic loop

2008-06-16 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Ian GM3SEK referred me to G4WIM's article in Radio
Communication Nov'1986 A 1-8 MHz Auto Tuning Verical
Antenna.

It describes a system, based on phase detector, to tune a
motor-driven coil. Magloop's capacitor could be tuned just
as well, I think.

[Elecraft] Re: phase detector for tuning magnetic loop

2008-06-15 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Julian, Lyle,

thanks for your replies!

Hamsdr magloop tuner is 'simply' an advanced memory device,
helping to reproduce a tuning found once quickly again.
(PLease correct me if I misunderstood it)

I'm still trying to find a magloop tuner which does the same
what I do - searching the resonance, no matter if done on
this particular frequency before or not.

[Elecraft] phase detector for tuning magnetic loop

2008-06-14 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Hi,

I'm thinking about building an automatic tuning controller
for my magloop. It could search for a current max, but this
can be a challenging task.

It's probably easier to look for a capacitor position where
the phase between voltage and current crosses the 0, with
reasonable deadband for stability. This is probably easier
to find than a current max.

What I'm looking for is a working example, since my
experience is not enough to design the whole from scratch.

I found already some commercial devices:
http://wimo.de/magnetische-loop-antennen_d.html
http://q-mac.ru/en/qmac_mx9027.html

Joe K3JLS is working on MLC, too (was
www.k3jls.com/mlc.html, should be put live when Joe's
project is ready)

A nice newsgroup conversation on the same subject:
http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Rec/rec.radio.amateur.antenna/2005-10/msg00268.html

Does anybody here use an automatic, phase detector based
magloop tuner?

[Elecraft] KAT2 without balun - which doublet length is better?

2008-03-17 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Hi,

I'm going to use my K2 with KAT2 internal ATU to operate a
doublet from 80m to 10m including WARC bands without a
balun. Among others, Dave's W8FGU home page inspired me to
try this.

I hope this is not a problem, especially when battery-fed
during portable operation, as there is [almost] no
HF-connection to the ground (the whole system is 'floating')

Quick modelling of 2x20m + 13.5m feeder antenna shows that
KAT2 should be able to do the job, as its 20uH and 2400pF
are enough on all bands.

My question is: can/should I make it easier for KAT2, e.g.
choosing other antenna or feeder lentgh or maybe
adding/removing a piece of feeder on some bands? Are there
some proven length to use?

[Elecraft] Re: KAT2 C55 adjustment - jumping 099-000

2008-01-20 Thread ub5_073_oleg
I think I found it. Making 1-turn loop through T1, I made
the wire jumper about 1/4 shorter as suggested in manual.

After replacing it with correct 1-1/4 one, I am able to
reach 007 mV with C55 adjustment. (thanks to
http://www.qsl.net/ve3mcf/elecraft_reflect/KAT2_Setup_C55.txt)

Now the next problem: after CALp, competed with RF-probe and
DMM, SWR reading is still very inaccurate. E.g. 1.4:1 at 25
Ohm instead of 2:1.

Have I to go for 2 dummy loads method (25 and 100 Ohm) or
can I investigate something before?

Don, thanks for quick answer!

With calibrate the SWR, do you mean simply adjusting REFL
R2 until SWR reading is correct, without touching C55 and
FWD R1 any more?

[Elecraft] KAT2 C55 adjustment - jumping 099-000

2008-01-19 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Folks,

yet another KAT2 SWR bridge null adjustment question.

I can reach 003 mV in ATU CALn mode. But after exiting and
entering CALn again, K2 displays 097, 098, 099, 000, 001 and
so on till it reaches a steady state around 003.

What could it mean? Looks to me like a display value overrun
at 100...

Pin 1 of LM358 has 0V on RX and 3.1V on TUNE.

[Elecraft] AUX not available for PC when using KAT100?

2007-04-09 Thread ub5_073_oleg
I'm thinking about purchasing KPA100 and KAT100 for my K2.

Is the following true? KAT100 occupies AUX port of KPA100
and makes controlling K2 from PC (MixW etc) impossible.

[Elecraft] KSB2 - need to configure P1 before coarse carrier balance?

2007-01-30 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Hi,

I'm currently checking/aligning my KSB2. The microphone is
not purchased until now, but I still wanted to adjust KSB2
tonight as far as I could.

Can I do a coarse carrier adjustment without configuring P1
first? (R1 has no effect on field strength, S-meter is zero)

[Elecraft] K2 BFO alignment - pls check my values

2007-01-21 Thread ub5_073_oleg
Hi,

I've just done BFO alignment and freq. calibration on my K2
and have some

questions.

I can zero beat AM stations around 7130 kHz with +-10Hz.

1) BFO range:
High freq. = 4917.13 KHz (= 4916.3 - ok)
Low freq. = 4913.08 KHz (not = 4912.7 !!!)
Range 4.05 kHz (= 3.6 kHz - ok)

Should I have concern about BFO low freq. is 1.1kHz too
high?

2) BFO alignment: I did not found any instructions on how I
should use filter
crystals frequency written on the bag. It is 3.6 in my
case.

Nevertheless I am able to get all FL1-FL4 into desired
range, using RF noise and
SpectranV2 on my PC. The pitch does not change when I toggle
cw and cw rev.

Are my BFO alignment values ok?
