[Elecraft] Hello?

2022-12-11 Thread Richard
Where’s the 40-meter SSB net today?

Do I have the time wrong? 3pm EST Sunday at 7280?

Where can I get a schedule of all the SSB nets? Tried the website and Google ——
nothing.

Cheers!

I am new to the list.  I have been reading the mail for the past few days.

I am not new to Elecraft Kits.  I built my first K2 back in 2005.  Since
then I have built 6 of them for various friends.

Sold my personal K2 in 2009 because I got real sick.

Build another one last year but it turned into a nightmare.  My brain
was not functioning well back then and the radio ended up scrapped. The
rest went in the trash.

Anyway I have a K1 on order that should have been shipped today. Might
take me a couple weeks to build it.  I am going to take it nice and slow.

thanks for reading.

2015-03-13 Thread Bill Frantz
Elecraft does post information on new versions of the firmware,
although it isn't 100% of the time. Ditto with hardware
upgrades. I just fire up my K3 utility program and ask it to
download new firmware from Elecraft as a way of ensuring I have
the latest and greatest.

Another way to learn about major changes is to watch the chatter
on the list. People will be describing how well they think the
upgrade works.

Re: [Elecraft] Hello from K3 Owner

2013-04-12 Thread Fred Smith
I must agree the State QSO Parties and the NAQP are the way to go IMHO for
WAS. But some use the spoon fed nets like the 3905 they are on every band
now to do so even the WARC bands. I feel about the same way about the DX
Nets where they help each other to complete the calls or signal reports
where they continue for up to 5 min till finally the DX contact gets all the
info on the caller (with help).

There are 2 bands that they aren't on though and those are the 2 bands I'm
working on WAS on 160m SSB (using only the 160m contest) need 9 now and 6m
still need a whole bunch there 8). The more you work for an Award of any
kind the more it means to YOU at least it does to me. I'm getting close to
5BDXCC and that is a goal at my age and health conditions anything more is
gravy.

You are already on LOTW, so that's great. I already have Basic, Phone, CW,

Just get into the contests and operate, upload your logs and you'd be

that you move on to 5-band WAS.

Good luck.

[Elecraft] Hello from K3 Owner

2013-04-10 Thread Doug Ellmore Sr.
In January 2013, I started my return to the hobby (and contesting sport) of
amateur radio focused on QRP. With the help of some friends, I moved
quickly. In March 2013, I aquired K3 #7232. I sold my ICOM 706MKII and a
triathlon bike to get the rig. The K3 arrived in time for WPX SSB and
I made close to 200 contacts in less than 19 hrs. I worked 45 countries.
WOW! I've been really amazed how well 5 watts does with my OCF Dipoles. I
am working DX and getting 55-59 reports consistantly. I have erected
an set of Buckmaster OCF dipoles which I have put together with a WX0B
Stack Match at my QTH. I have also put up delta loops for 40, 20, and
15m. Check QRZ for the info. I am getting really good results.

I had been keeping up on some of my basic opoerating skills up the last 3
years with my QRP buddies on the NA3DX Field Day Team. From 1996 to 2001,
I was mostly SSB LP and HP. Now, I am working more CW because of the
features of the K3 and will likely expand into RTTY and PSK after I get
better at CW QSOs. I am amazed with how much CW is going on. It seem
significantly more now than prior to 2001.
In January/February, I uploaded my prior 1998-2001 contest logs and in LOTW
and got 70 countries confirmed imediately. I have chased down WPX 300 and
DXCC is in the queue for approval with over 120 confirmed via LOTW and
QSLs.I have worked 80+ countries since January, all QRP.

I am looking for help to get WAS completed. I am looking for anyone using
LOTW from the following states:

Hawaii
Idaho
Louisiana
Maine
Montana
Nevada
New Mexico
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
West Virginia

I work 6:30 am to 3:00 pm M-F with my day job, then coach HS track until
7pm EDT. Weekends I am more flexible. If you would be interested, send me
an email at d...@ellmore.net and we can try to setup a schedule. It would
be great to make some K3/KX3 contacts.

73 and GUD DX, Doug / NA1DX

P.S. I am looking to sell my ICOM 703 to put towards a KX3. If you know
anyone, send them my way.

Re: [Elecraft] Hello from K3 Owner

2013-04-10 Thread Milt -- N5IA
Doug,

The individual QSO Parties are great to pick up contacts with the various
states, and also the more rare counties in those states.

From your list, the New Mexico QSO Party is this coming Saturday.

Three weeks from this weekend is the 7th District QSO Party with your needed
states of Idaho, Montana and Nevada being out in force on all bands along with
all the rest of the 7th District states.

And that same weekend the New England QSO Party will also be running so you
will have the chance at many Maine stations.

So nearly half your needed states will be out in force and LOOKING for contacts
with guys like you within the next 25 days. Go to the web pages for each of
those QSO Parties to read the rules for the exchanges, etc.

For a look at how we do it for the 7QP, go to
http://www.ws7n.net/7QP/new/PicPage.asp?content=2012_7QP and click on the K7EAR
tab. Note the K3 radios in the CW Bus photo. Also see
http://www.ws7n.net/7QP/new/PicPage.asp?content=7QPFOTOS_2009

73, and good luck with the quest. Congrats on getting back into the hobby.

Re: [Elecraft] HELLO

2012-09-23 Thread Kevin Stover
Easy fix.
It just takes discipline.

Don't click on anything in an email, even if it says it's a picture of
puppy's and butterflies from your daughter/grand-daughter. IT Security
types have been saying this for years, but some people think it doesn't
apply to them or their anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-phishing software
will keep them safe... to click with impunity.

All of these programs run on virus/malware definitions you receive from
the provider.
They are ALWAYS at least 12 hours behind on new virii/exploits, and
that's the companies who're paying attention.

It may just be me but I've noticed a HUGE increase of these hacked
e-mail postings this weekend. Not just on this reflector but many
others too and private e-mail as well. Two of my friends got hacked
 already today.

Yet another reason to use a browser that is NOT Internet Explorer.
Firefox is one alternative. It's not perfect by any means, but it's
not IE either, and the user-based support is amazing. I have IE on my
system, for those times when I am forced to use it, but fortunately
that's only 2 or 3 times a year.

But perhaps I am just being a curmudgeon.

Re: [Elecraft] HELLO

2012-09-23 Thread Phil Hystad
Actually, either Google Chrome or Opera is superior to Firefox as a browser.
Firefox has not kept up with changing times and performance.

On my Mac, the fastest browser is Apple Safari but Chrome comes in as a
reasonably close second and then Opera. And, all of these blow the doors off
of Firefox. And, obviously there is no IE on my Mac so that is a non-issue.

But, at work, corporate policy (which I violate every day) is to use IE and it
is incredibly slow despite the fact that I have a very fast PC.

Both Chrome and Opera are available on a Windows PC too and they are much
better then IE or Firefox. My favorite for my at work computer is Opera.
Since we do a lot of HTML5 based web application development, IE is not even in
the running as a test platform and we rely on Opera and Chrome. Just go to the
site: html5test.com and measure your favorite browser's HTML5 support.

Oh, Safari is available on Windows but that is not a good choice. Safari
screams on a Mac but it is stuck in the slush on a Windows box. Safari is a
web-kit based browser and so is Chrome and I think possibly Opera and just
about every other browser on the planet. Firefox is of course based on Mozilla
Gecko and IE is based on IE junk.

If you are asking about the KX3 DVR, look at the errata sheet - it is
not yet implemented.
If you are asking about the K3, then look at the KDVR3 instructions.

Many will appreciate it if you put the relevant Elecraft product in the
subject line. There are many products and some have setup filters based
on that product information.

Re: [Elecraft] hello

2011-05-05 Thread Don Wilhelm
As a matter of computer safety. I do not open ANY link in an email
unless the person sending it includes a reasonable explanation telling
me why I should be interested in it.

There are too many friends who simply send a link with a note that
says something to the effect of you might like this -- that is so
close to the spam links that I never open those, no matter how well I
know the sender.

OK, that is my computer safety rule, you may construct your own, but if
you send me a link and do not tell me (in a descriptive way) why I
should open it, you can conclude that I did not open it.

I believe if everyone followed similar rules, we would have fewer
problems with trojans and computer virus.

2011-05-05 Thread Mike WA8BXN

Being prudent, or even a bit paranoid these days, is a good idea. For the
few people that I often communicate with via e-mail, if I am not expecting a
file or URL from them I will send them a message asking if they really sent
one if I get something from them in an e-mail. I also have an older computer
(that I would not mind being trashed) that I could use for the download if I
didn't want to wait for verification as well as a couple of android systems
that probably mildly burp at any attack.

Still, backups of critical data (off site if possible) and a good frequently
updated virus protection system is a good idea. I've never had any problems
on my computers, but have spent considerable time fixing other people
systems that have been victims.

Re: [Elecraft] hello

2011-05-05 Thread Tony Estep
When you see an email like that one that is obviously spam, not only should
you never click the link; you should never even open the email itself. An
email can contain an imbedded graphic object, reduced in size to the point
of invisibility, but containing code that can take advantage of a buffer
overflow exploit in unpatched browsers to execute itself. That's the reason
that your email client has the don't display graphics setting, which you
should keep turned on. Just opening and then discarding a spam message can
launch a virus attack against your machine, usually the most insidious kind
that installs a rootkit or bot.

[Elecraft] hello

2010-12-03 Thread Lloyd Taylor
hello
and how are you?
I just picked one Apple MacBook Pro MC024LL/Afrom this website
www.ok-wholesalers.com and I love it. I paid $1260US all charges
included the chose to use the Core 2 Duo but that's not all bad. This is a
stable, cool running, capable processor. The machine now includes 4 G of ram
and a much improved video card from the previous version. I use this mostly
for work where stability, battery life, portability, and longevity are the
most important things to me. I rarely play games. I run office
applications, safari, email, ever note, and skype. It all works great. The
machine feels substantial in my hands. Pick it up and try to twist it. It is
perfectly rigid. My Toshiba feels like the battery would fall out if I
twisted a bit more. This one feels well built. I especially like the backlit
keyboard. if you want to get one.you can check it out .
I hope you have an enjoyable xmas

a dual function ... both level matching and response shaping.

It's not needed for blocking in Yaesu rigs. However, some other

include one in a DC adder for an electret mic (or FET preamp)

[Elecraft] hello to all K2/100 owners, advise needed

2008-05-30 Thread John Klokis
I recently got my K2 serviced and updated. I was told by the technician that I
needed to tighten the mounting screws on Q1 and Q2 after 10 to 12 hours of use.
Failure to do so could destroy the transitors. I have read the KPA/100 manual
and it says to tighten these mounting screws after initial use. My radio is 6
years old. Do I still have to try and remove the board to tighten these
mounting screws periodically when using high power(100 watts). If so needed,
can I access these mounting screws easily or do I have to remove the KPA100 PCB?
My K2/100 and KAT100 really performs well since it was updated and
correction of a problem fixed. I do not work on radios, but I would try and do
this maintanence if needed to prolong the life of the transitors. John K3JK

No, it only has to be done once after initial assembly or whenever the
transistors have been removed.

You need to take the shield off of the KPA100, but you do not need to
remove the board.

If the thermal pads for the PA transistors were replaced then you DO
need to re-tighten the screws after 10 - 12 hours of use. Check with

[Elecraft] Hello K1 builders

2005-01-20 Thread G. Krämer

 Hello K1 builders,

maybe one of you can help. I am just building a K1-4 and I am in trouble
now. The kit passed all the alignment test till receiver alignment. Even
using a transceiver on a dummy load I couldn't find a signal. I hear a
strong noise but can't find a signal, even with a piece of wire (1m) in
the antenna jack. Checking the board, I realized that I have put in and
soldered the trimm capacitors the wrong way - everything else seems to
be ok. Is this causing the trouble? Any idea what else it might be? Any
idea how to resolder the trimm capacitors?

Thanks for help in advance!
