Re: [Elecraft] K3 & Ham Radio Deluxe

2013-09-03 Thread PKA
I am using HRD 5.24 and remote access (using Teamviewer).
It works well enough for my use (100% CW)

For me, the problem with a few buttons is just an annoyance.
But there are other shortcomings in old HRD versions. I don't know if they
apply to the most recent versions.

1. Keying a Winkeyer is possible, but the buffer handling is very slow in
starting up sending CW. I used it for several years, but had a real
"eyeopener" when I changed to using the WK Demo program. It is so much faster
and works absolutely great.
Actually using HRD with its poor buffer handling for keying a Winkeyer may lead
to the misunderstanding that the internet latency is an obstacle against using
CW-over-IP. It generally is not.
2. RIT does not work (I just use split VFO)
3. There is no good reading of the K3 SWR. However the TX level in upper left
corner does show the SWR well enough to let you know if you have to activate
the ATU (also when operating on a long latency internet connection)
4. Some buttons do not change colour when selected. Of the few I use, the
following do not change colour: Split, Test, NR, ALT. But that's not a real
problem.
5. The VFO-B frequency reading acts strange. It seems only to read the
frequency when I change VFO-A value. So if I push A>B and then change VFO-A it
will change to the old VFO-A value. As I recall it, I did not have this
problem on earlier versions.

Which buttons do not function correctly? If I knew that, I would try it in my

Re: [Elecraft] K3 & Ham Radio Deluxe

2013-09-02 Thread Mike Flowers
I opened a Mantis bug about this issue on 19 JUNE 2013:

" I'm running HRD V6.0.0.132 and a K3. O/S is 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

Some HRD buttons that toggle a function ON/OFF are not highlighted when
selected. Other buttons that toggle a function ON/OFF are operating
properly.

The function toggle buttons that do are not being highlighted here are:

ALT, ATU, COURSE, NR, VOX, NOTCH, RX ANT, TEST

Instead of highlighting, the buttons listed above give a high tone/low tone
beep when the function is selected/deselected."

Also, in v6.1, the NR button is mapped to ATU for some reason - I wrote an
HRD macro to toggle NR and use that instead.

K3 is just on rig of many that HRD supports, and many have issues. All in
all, I'm quite pleased with both the K3 implementation and the level of tech
support I get from the HRD team. They've help me resolve a number of
thorny issues with my HRD implementation and added real value to my
operations.

2013-09-01 Thread Bill
I use HRD about 95% of the time - an older free version. I have noticed
that some of the buttons do not work correctly - in particular - they do
not change color when pushed.

I asked the current HRD folks if the problem had been corrected with the
6.xxx commercial version of HRD and was told they were "very busy with
product development." I then asked on the HRD reflector and was told by
a couple of other users that the problem has not been corrected.

If you find a means to correct the issue, I'd sure like to hear about it.

Yes, that's the answer. The problem developed for me today. I consulted the

work on the memory settings earlier in the afternoon. I have no idea how that

My CONFIG: VFO IND had been set to "No" the entire 18 months I've had my K3.
I had the same problem in the latest version of HRD. I found, on my rig, by
changing that setting to "Yes", then the automatic band switching when
selecting a spot on a different band works perfectly.

[Elecraft] K3 & Ham Radio Deluxe

2012-09-06 Thread Michael Marx
Hi All,

I am trying to get me K3 fully working with Ham Radio Deluxe and have run into
a snag. When using their DX cluster window, I can click on a spot within the
band I'm on and it works ok. But if I try to click on a spot in a different
band, the radio momentarily switches to the new band and frequency and then
quickly drops back to where I was. I have tried changing the baud rate and it
made no difference. It works fine with my old IC746. Any ideas??

These settings were probably inherited from HRD 5.0 when upgrading to HRD

No issues at all (so far)...

[Elecraft] K3 & Ham Radio Deluxe Ver. 5.1 Serial Communication Issues

2012-02-19 Thread David S. Mulvey
I am having trouble with the new Ham Radio Deluxe Version 5.1 software
release. Since I upgraded to 5.1, my Windows 7 PC and HRD will communicate
using the Elecraft USB/Serial cable as evidenced by seeing the K3 frequency
in the HRD K3 emulation screen. However, after a few minutes the K3
emulation locks up and stops communicating with the K3.

I am using a K3, P3 and a KPA500 all with current firmware, at 38.4 Kbps on
USB emulation Comm 6, when the HRD K3 emulation locks up, the Elecraft
K-Line continues to communicate among themselves correctly.

Has anyone on the forum made the HRD 5.1 upgrade and if so, how do you have
your Comm settings set?

Thank you in advance for your ideas and help!

[Elecraft] K3 & Ham Radio Deluxe

2010-02-07 Thread Bob - W0GI

I have Ham Radio Deluxe and DB780 working well at this point on the K3, but
maybe I am missing something on the HRD interface. Some of the buttons seem
to have incomplete functionality. For example the RIT button does turn RIT
on and off on the radio, but there is no slider to adjust it, so it seems
pointless? The are other buttons that are similar, so what am I missing? Or
is this just a work in progress?

I have the latest V5 2434 Kit.

I also got the remote to work over IP to the HRD IP server, but it is a bit
buggy and the meter and other functions don't work on an IP remote session,
that do work on the local HRD connected to the K3 serial port.

I will post this on the HRD forum, but maybe someone here has a suggestion.

Aside from all that, this K3 is the best CW radio I have ever used. Beyond
that, it is just too cool. The features are mostly usable stuff, and not
just worthless bells and whistles.

And maybe it's just me, but the I don't think the ergonomics are bad
considering the limited panel space.

I like the Mark-V ergonomics better, but the K3 isn't bad at all.

Only 4 days after finishing the K3 build, I already know that I'll be buried
with this rig. :>)

Started using HRD 4.1 build 2321 and with my K3. When trying to use it
with the 10Ghz transverter the frequency display on HRD is "bogus" and freq
control fails. So does HRD have an upper feq limit. Worked ok on 1296Mhz,
one digit less.

I don't know the answer to that but it would be easy to check. Set the rig
to 10GHz then open the K3 Utility go to the Terminal page and send the
command FA; This is the command HRD would use to get the rig's frequency.
You should get a response FA followed by an 11 digit number, the frequency
in Hz. If the frequency is correct, HRD is not displaying it correctly.

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Ham Radio Deluxe band switching

2009-09-08 Thread Brendan Minish
if you have VFO IND = NO the you will have this issue

HRD sets both VFO's by default, even where split is not required. in
this case it puts vfoB 'back where it found it

unless you have VFO IND on then both VFO's must be on the same band.
Setting VFOA jumps to the new band.
setting VFOB causes VFO A to revert to the same band as VFOB is on. this
is normal. the K3 is behaving as it should for the way it is configured.
Many of us prefer VFO IND = NO as I always want my main and sub on the
same band.

I raised this with Simon and would expect that it will be fixed soon.

frankly I can't see why the software would need to 'touch' VFO B unless
it's actually setting split mode.

I would have thought that by definition the K3 was the definitive
implementation of the K3 software commands. If they do not work in the way a
software developer expects then it is the software developer's job to work
around them.

2008-01-12 Thread Alan D. Wilcox

Simon,
Checked again ... off the network to get this sorted out. I don't have
any ports to open

if I'm just on the same PC as the K3.

K3 serial to PC running Win2K Pro. I invoke HRD and "Connect" to the K3,
get K3 display.

Click "Remote" and see that I've started the Remote Service (which does
seem to work remotely).

Click DM780 button, then for Radio, click "Configure" ... and get error
msg below.

(Interestingly, I see a waterfall, but the signal controls don't work.)

it is a setup that works well for me, the LDG tunes the antennas that I
have with no problem, and it saves me money that I can spend on other

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Ham Radio Deluxe - Tuner Macro

2007-12-08 Thread Robert Benedict

Right Vic

As stated in my original message I am referring to the action you get
when you hit "tune" not "ATU tune". I do not have the internal tuner. I
have an amp I occasionally use, so my autotuner is external.

When I hit "ATU tune" the K3 politely informs me that I do not have an
ATU installed and does nothing.

Again, the K3 behavior is different than the K2 and every other
transceiver I have seen. I hope that this will one day be changed, but I
think Elecraft has bigger fish to fry today. So - meanwhile Simon's
excellent software provides an easy way to shape actions to suit my needs.

   Bob
KD8CGH

For clarification, the K3's internal tuner *does* reduce the power
when activated by the ATU button, (I think to 5 w). Bob is apparently
talking about using an external tuner with the TUNE button, which does
put out whatever power the radio is set to.

I hope that this can/will be fixed in a future firmware version for
those of us using external tuners. I don't think it would be a good idea
to send 100w to my LDG while it is tuning. In my opinion the K3 should
follow the same behavior that the K2 does in that it should output at a

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Ham Radio Deluxe - Tuner Macro

Great news about HRD support for the K3

My first macro is a "tuner" command to replace the unfortunate "tune"
behavior of the K3. Unlike the K2, which drops power to about 20
watts, the K3 will use whatever power you are set to. This isn't good
for the tuner or the K3. I have already caused my K3 to instantly
thermal trip by forgetting to turn power down to tune and then back
up.

For clarification, the K3's internal tuner *does* reduce the power when
activated by the ATU button, (I think to 5 w). Bob is apparently talking
about using an external tuner with the TUNE button, which does put out
whatever power the radio is set to.

2007-12-08 Thread Dave Martin
FB, Bob. That's plenty good enough to keep from arcing the relay
contacts on my SGC antenna coupler, not to mention reducing the QRM a
bit. One thing I could say for the Icoms I have had is that they had
the ten watt tune function that they used with their external tuners.
That always worked fine for me. Thanks.

here is a short CAT command that I attached to a button I labeled "tuner"
PC020;
SWH16;
@ 1000;
SWH16;

You still need to remember to turn the power back up, but it will be gentle to
your gear.

If anyone knows a more elegant solution I would like to hear it.

was using it and enjoying it, they'd consider making a reasonable donation.

What's the only thing that can make Ham Radio Deluxe
more deluxe? Connect it to a K3!

Beyond that, who can complain of the cost?

I consider myself as much of a charitable organization
than a radio amateur. ;-)
