Re: [Elecraft] QUICK QUESTION
look for the SMA connector next to the BNC antenna connector. That will tell you if the KX3 has a 4M or 2M module. Opening it up is quite easy, as it is the way you change the internal batteries, so that works too. If the installer checked the 2M or 4M box on the transverter, you get a clue as to which band was installed. 73 Bill AE6JV On 2/6/18 at 12:58 PM, wmgo...@gmail.com (Michael Goins) wrote: Is their an easy way to tell if a KX3 has the 2 meter module in it without opening it up? Re: [Elecraft] quick question about antennas
When I wired an addition to our house some 40 or so years ago, one of my circuits from the service box started in Romex, converted to steel conduit, and then back to Romex. Since the grounding connections were properly bonded to each other, the building inspector in Los Gatos, CA approved it. The principle reason for the grounding conductor (green wire) is to cause the circuit breaker to open if one of the hot wires shorts to the case of the electrical equipment. If the case just floated, it would be a shock hazard for anyone who touched it and also touched something that was grounded. 73 Bill AE6JV On 7/11/16 at 2:21 PM, j...@audiosystemsgroup.com (Jim Brown) wrote: It depends on the building code used by local jurisdiction. Re: [Elecraft] Quick question on HTs to use with my KX3
Mark: A good starting point on operating hints for the “easy sats” can be found on the AMSAT Website. See: http://www.amsat.org/?page_id=2144 This page is titled “Station and Operating Hints” and includes references to various HTs. There is also a link embedded in that page that will bring up an operating guide developed by Patrick Stoddard, WD9EWK. You’ll glean some useful information about using an HT with an external antenna of various types. Most current generation HTs with dual-band capability can be used; best is to have one with duplex capability so that you can listen to your downlink as you transmit. The Kenwood TH-D72A has this capability. Patrick notes this in his writeup and mentions various HTs. Some older units are also very good; my personal preference is the Yaesu FT-51R which is duplex but also features an external mic that displays frequencies with the ability to change stored channels or VFO frequencies using buttons on the mic. Check out the AMSAT website for developments regarding the upcoming launches of Fox-1A and Fox-1C which are FM birds flying later this year… Are you coming to Dayton? AMSAT will have a major presence at Hamvention, including satellite demos taking place outside of the Ball Arena. Stop by the AMSAT booth area (Ball Arena booths 433-435 and 444-446 across one another) for satellite pass times and take a look at the newly revised 2015 edition of “Getting Started with Amateur Satellites” which provides a complete overview of how to operate a variety of satellites along with discussion of tracking, equipment setup, operational considerations, etc. The book will also be available through the AMSAT Store following Dayton. The AMSAT Forum is Saturday from 1115-1330 in Forum Room 5. 73, Barry Baines, WD4ASW President-Radio Amateur Satellite Corp. On 4/6/2014 9:16 PM, David Cole wrote: Does the K3 have a CW keyer memory? IE., can I program up a CQ TEST, in one memory, then the 599 00X in the other? The K3 has two banks of 4 CW message memories each. They are selectable with the M1-M4 buttons on the front panel. Each will store 250 CW characters. Touching the paddle will kill a message immediately. You can set a memory to repeat [like for a CQ], sending anything with the paddle kills the repeat. The memories are static, you can't auto-increment a serial number, however you can program the exchange up to the serial number in one memory, then send the number manually, and the rest of the exchange from another memory. To the best of my knowledge, there is no control character you can put in your message to pause the message so you can insert the number and then continue. On voice modes and if you have the KDVR3 module, they will store short messages which you can record directly from your normal mic. People have told me that they can't tell if it's a canned message or me. :-) With the DVR option, you can also record and play back from the receiver. It's a 90 sec loop. I've never used it. I use N1MM and in SSB contests, I put K3 CAT commands in the N1MM macros that emulate tapping M1-M4. Except for ARRL SS SSB, I usually just use it for CQ. For SS, the exchange is fairly long so I have my precedence, call, check, and section in a memory, I give his call and my s/n and then hit Enter and the radio gives the rest of the exchange. I don't use the K3 memories in CW contests, N1MM keys the radio with a WinKeyUSB. If I'm chasing a DX station [CW or SSB], I put my call in M1 so all I have to do is tape M1 to call. You can also assign any of the Mx keys to K3 macros in addition to PF1 and PF2, but doing so means you can't also use them as message memories. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2014 Cal QSO Party 4-5 Oct 2014 - www.cqp.org __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Phil, You can also monitor the power supply voltage with the K3. 73 Ken K5DNL --- --- On Sat, 6/12/10, Phil LaMarche plama...@verizon.net wrote: From: Phil LaMarche plama...@verizon.net Subject: [Elecraft] Quick question K3 To: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Date: Saturday, June 12, 2010, 11:03 AM Getting ready for the contest. Re: [Elecraft] Quick question K3
Tap DISP, then turn VFO B until you get the display with A to the side. What kind of current are you pulling with 92 watts into 1.7 SWR when it shuts off? Also turn VFO B until PA shows on the display, what temperature are you getting when it shuts off? 73, Guy. Re: [Elecraft] Quick Question for someone with their radio open
Take that back... Looks like Mouser's website was lying that that was a 5mm diameter cap Its actually 6.3mm which is going to be too big... So I did a bit more digging and found: http://mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsCnlYck6hSqLKeSeHnSOGyVYzpVBYnbJA%3d Looks like this specific cap should fit the pads. Providing the .208 measurement that I think I remember correctly isn't way off in left field... :) If someone could verify the dimensions of the plastic nugget on the bottom is about .208 x .208 then I think I'll have to order me up a few of these. ~Brett On Sat, 2009-07-04 at 20:51 -0700, Brett Howard wrote: http://mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsCnlYck6hSqNv1tvAH8HUqxGXBxSgy5Fs%3d I think this capacitor may fit into the C9 and C13 area next to the headphone. This is an only 10V cap rather than the 25V cap that Elecraft has in there now. But I think that should be plenty of derating for a 105mW power amp. So if anyone has a pair of calipers and their radio open I'd be interested to see if we think this thing will fit. The bottom pad in the direction other than that with leads is ~5.3mm or .208 and in the direction of the leads its going to be ~5.5mm or .217 inches to the outside of the leads. Would greatly appreciate if someone would confirm this for me. I remember taking these measurements but didn't write them down. I believe I'm remembering them correctly. Anyone else have any thoughts on if 10V is going to be enough? I figured 10V^2/16ohms is about 6.25 watts and being that the amp is designed to deliver 105mW to that 16ohm load that seems like it should be more than enough derating. Any other thoughts? ~Brett __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] Quick question
Somewhat OT, but can someone email me off-list a few of my options for small paddles for my K1 field ops? I believe there is something like White Rook, or some such? Please don't tell me about handmade stuff. I do not do well with small, home-made items. Is the KX1 paddle a viable option? Thanks much.
