HiYes it can. You need to use the KY command. See the K3 programmers

You should be able to send CAT commands to key FSK on your KX3.  K8ZT has a
good write up on doing this in N1MM+:

Re: [Elecraft] Question about the KX3

2014-05-19 Thread Joshua Gould
I've already gone through both the operating manual and the assembly
manual. Having built a number of computers from the ground up, the KX3
looks to be on that level of difficulty, albeit squeezed into a tiny
package.

This will be my first HF rig, as I passed my general test on 7th of May, so
I'm still learning about the differences in the rigs that I now have
available to me. While I was at Dayton, I played with a K3 and liked the
way it felt and handled a KX3 and liked it as well.

Next question that I feel the need to ask: in all of the photos on the
website of the KX3 there is an antenna plugged into the BNC jack on the
right side of the radio. What antenna is that, and does it come with the
kit? (I'm taking a gander toward no, but that's ok because I have a G5RV
Mini that I still need to put up. Just waiting on a radio to attach to
it...)

I have to hand it to Elecraft, the manuals are top notch and they do
something that no other manufacturer does: explain in plain English what a
function does and why you would want to use said function.

Re: [Elecraft] Question about the KX3

2014-05-18 Thread Matt Zilmer
Hi Joshua,

I recommend the ATU. Very handy for wire and vertical antennas in the
field, and for non-resonant antennas at your home QTH.

The MH3 (shown as H3 on the KX3 page) is an accessory, but not
included. You would have to order it separately, as with the ATU.

Many KX3 ops prefer the kit. Building the kit shows you how the KX3
fits together and there is an excellent theory of operations section
in the owner's manual that you should read. It's a good idea to know
your equipment inside-out, imho.

I own and operate an early KX3, and its performance constantly
surprises me, especially in field conditions. I use the KX3 (mostly)
away from the home QTH. However, it is a full-featured and very
capable base station rig as well.

See http://www.sherweng.com/table.html for the KX3's receiver ratings.

[Elecraft] Question about my kx3. Problem?

Hi just put together my new KX3 but something seems amiss. I was tuning through
the 40m cw band and I was not hearing any signals.. I then switched to web mode

nothing tuning up and down the bands. I then adjusted the BW using the pbt and
as soon as it gets to 2.0. I hear signals. Turn it down to 1.9 and nothing. Am

No I do not have the roofing filters but even so, a cw signal without 400hz or
less bandwidth is useless no?
So, if you put the radio in dual watch mode and the VOA and fob frequencies are
the same then guess what? You can get all the way down to 150.
So what gives? Something isn't right

HI Tom:

It appears that you do not have the roofing filter option.  I had the

tuning above 2.0 and all is OK.

Re: [Elecraft] Question about my kx3. Problem?

2013-10-01 Thread Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft
This sounds that while you do not have the KXFL3 installed, it is still enabled
in the KX3 set up menu. This will cause the KX3 to route signals through the
wrong path to the non-existent KXFL3 when narrower RX bandwidths are dialed in.

Disable the KXFL3 in the menu and you should be able to successfully dial the
DSP down lower in BW without losing RX.
