Re: [Elecraft] K3 in different colors?

2008-02-28 Thread K4tmc

I want one in Isuzu Proton Yellow to match the color of my 2001 Vehicross.
It will compliment my yellow driving jacket, writing pen, beach towel, caps,
travel bags, and the Pennzoil motor oil.

Hopefully Ken (N0PP) and Rose can provide a matching cover in that color also.

Another thought on this...

Maybe those who want to chose the color of their radio should consider
the Hilberling PT-8000. I see they are estimated to be $14,000 for
the 100 watt version, or $16,000 for the 600 watt version. For those
prices, I presume that you can have it in your choice of color. It
looks like the 600 watt version is a better deal - only $2K more for
the 400 additional watts. ;-)

2008-02-27 Thread T. David Yarnes
Personally, I think black is a very classy color. I'd
even like to have a black automobile, notwithstanding the
fact that I live in the Arizona desert! I prefer K3 black
to K2 gray, but I suppose that's just me. Black is a
neutral color (as are colors like tan and gray), but I think
it contrasts better with other colors better than other
neutral colors do. Black is actually the absence of
color, so I guess that's why it works that way for me.
Anyway, I vote to keep rolling out the products in black.

But if you want colors, take a look at that new german
transceiver (Hilberling? or whatever). It costs a fortune,
but I saw it at Dayton, and you can get it in all sorts of
colors--some were pretty wild! Personally I thought some of
the offered colors would only look good in a bordelo, but
everyone to his or her taste!

Looks like an interesting piece of gear. With a starting price of $12,000 for
the 10W version, you should be able to get it in any colour you want. ;-) They
claim the radio has lots of features never before seen in a commercial radio.
I notice they don't have a USB interface but an old RS-232 one. A USB
interface would have been interesting to see. In particular because its hard
to find a modern computer with built-in RS-232 interface these days.

For the price of just one of those 10W radios, you could have 3 fully loaded
K3/100's. If I had that kind of spare cash to put down on a radio, I would
rather go with a K3.

prices, I presume that you can have it in your choice of color. It
looks like the 600 watt version is a better deal - only $2K more for
the 400 additional watts. ;-)

I hope Rob can get his hands on one shortly after they're released.

I'll probably be keeping my K3, however.

Just black works fine for me! It compliments my jeans and scruffy
shirt quite nicely.

If it came in different colors, I might have to buy an all new wardrobe
to match my new accessory, and that would make the purchase of a K3
quite an overall expenditure. I might have to have a different K3 to
match my current mood too, so more expenses would result. :-) Now,
where did I put those credit card applications offering cheap credit?

Re: [Elecraft] K3 in different colors?

2008-02-26 Thread Lee Buller

Keith,

I like this idea. My wife just purchased a Ruby Red Dell Laptop. (Her name is
Ruby) But, I am not sure about the complexity of manufacture. How many colors
to offer? How many chassis to stock? Thinks like that.

The only company doing this is the German CompanyHilberling...which has
Bright Blue, Midnight Black and Blood Red.

I like the idea, it has merit, but I doubt that it would be practical and that
it would increase sales because I have to have the White K3. It is the bomb!

Not practical, ea? Yea, you're probably right. Having suggested it, I
wonder how much my local body shop would charge me to strip / refinish
the existing top, sides, bottom to be something fun. I'd pick dark red,
myself.

As it is currently constructed, the K3 in finished in a variety of
different textures. Black is a good color for minimizing those
differences; other colors might not manage the task as well.

2008-02-26 Thread Ken Kopp

I'm ready to buy a set of K3 panels in the K1/K2 gray ...

Perhaps Aptos could produce a few K2 color-schemed cases
w/front panels ...

It's surprising to see the different color tastes reflected in the
fabric and thread colors chosen by Rose's case orders.
