I had tried this - using recent mode - a year ago and I remember having
hundreds of previously downloaded messages raining on me. Did you go thru
that? I didn't really have an understanding of it. Thanks. So this works
for you.

I can't BCC myself, for all the same reasons you don't receive your own
replies to mail groups when you use a Gmail address. I have more than one
Gmali address and simply BCC another address.

So even in recent mode you can't BCC yourself. But this is all a nuisance
and I wonder why gmail seems to purposely cause this trouble.

Gmail works on the conversations principle. When you are talking to
someone, having a conversation with them, you don't get your own words
repeated back to you. You speak them, others hear them; you hear others.

When you log into your Gmail account online, your part of the conversation
is included.

I can do this with verizon, earthlink and dotmac, if I set it to save on the
server for a day or whatever. Gmail doesn't do that for me.

Look in your Gmail settings Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Under POP Download,
#2, what choice have you made?

 2. When messages are accessed with POP:
-keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox
-archive Gmail's copy
-delete Gmail's copy

Re: gmail, IMAP and Entourage

2008-09-11 Thread Jan C.
Those are excellent resources but I think IMAP is over my head. I do not
understand the double lists of folders. In the 2nd list, drafts do not
appear in Drafts nor deleted messages in Trash. What is that? If, as
recommended in your first link, in the account Options I put Root Folder:
[gmail], I don't get a double list but I get only Inbox - no other folders.
Is there a link to explain this wierdness?

I would be satisfied with gmail as POP except that I can't get it to be
received on two computers in the same account or to address myself in a BCC.
Is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

I have my Gmail set up with POP. I'll send you a screenshot off list.

To get it on two computers, check the box to leave messages on server and
then set the delete from server time to something long enough to allow you
to download the messages to both computers.

As far as BCCing yourself, set up another Gmail account and BCC that one.

in both mac mail and entourage. I have no problems and receive mail in
both.

To verify, you are saying that you can receive POP gmail messages more than
one time (on two computers) in Entourage? And you can send a message to
yourself at the same address?

gmail, IMAP and Entourage

2008-09-10 Thread Jan C.
I am experimenting with gmail IMAP. I have it working in Apple Mail but I'd
rather use Entourage (2004) and I'm almost there. I can send mail. The
folders are listed. But I can't see the messages. The first folder is INBOX
(2) and is in bold type but in the Inbox column it says There are no
messages in this folder. Same with Sent (1).

What do I need to do to see the messages?

Is anyone here successfully using gmail IMAP with Entourage?
