The ISP rep.s do not believe the Heartbleed Fix caused the problem.

They claim that no other changes were made that day.

My account does not appear to be blocked; it works fine with Icedove.

Perhaps I should ask a different question. Are you aware of any recent
server modifications that might affect Evo but not Icedove?

I've had to switch to Icedove. Evolution no longer works with my ISP.

Has anyone else had this problem?

IMHO this is unlikely to be caused by the Heartbleed fix. AFAIK the
patch to fix OpenSSL doesn't affect normal SSL operation in any way and
is completely transparent to well-behaved clients (i.e. those not trying
to hack the server). I don't know of any other reports of client-side
failure (not just of Evo but of anything else) due to this.

The failure could be related to the ISP restarting its servers, or
blocking their customers' accounts until they change their password, or
them making some other change at the same time, or to something
 completely unrelated.

wondering where the original went ), and I've had to move them back to

like because I have been unable to catch it with top or see if a

If disk is thrashing, open up a terminal, and shutdoen evolution, set
memory limits and startup evolution from the terminal.

network), or when switching from wired LAN to WLAN.

I reported it as a bug with Ubuntu
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/120728

The person handling the bug thinks this is desirable, and expected,
behaviour of Evolution, which doesn't make sense to me.

Evolution checks with NetworkManager for a inet connection, and if
existent switches to online mode.

And if nm finds no active inet connection, it informs applications
such as evolution, evolution switches to offline mode,

This is a expected behavior from what i have read about nm and evolution
integration .

 So I'll ask here:
  1. is this expected behaviour of Evolution 2.10.1?
  2. if this is not expected behaviour, is this a known bug with
 upstream Evolution?
  3. if this is a known bug, is there a fix upstream?
  4. if this isn't a known bug, should I file it with the gnome
bugzilla? Does it belong on evolution or evolution-exchange?

I found this, which looks releated...?

re-install should not make a difference . Backup your mail folder -
.evolution, and evolution both .

if .evolution folder exists , Reset the configuration and blow up
evolution folder . Next, reset gconf key for evolution

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/evolution

Hopefully this should have evolution migration wizard going .

Import Assistant in Evolution 2.0.2 but it says No settings found.
I don't want to have to 'reinvent the wheel' by using all sorts of

Between Evo 1 and Evo 2 there was a lot of changes in the formats -
  specifically
it changed from using the '~/evolution' directory to store everything in

the '~/.evolution' directory. If '~/.evolution' exists, it won't

sure that '~/evolution directory exists. You only get one chance to do
  the imports
because the initial import sets lots of gconf keys - evo assumes that
  the import

There used to be a program around from Ximian (when evo was a Ximian

Can anybody tell me if Evo will get some kind of server side
filtering on email sizes in the near future? I did not find in the new

I really enjoy Gnome and Evo, but this email filtering on size that is
missing in evolution is really blocking me from using it.

In our sister desktop the way it is implemented in Kmail is really
cool (sorry, but it is)! They show a window with a list of headers of
only those emails that are larger than a configurable size and per
email you can then select: download, delete or leave on server.
There is a (much) less sophisticated way in Thunderbird where only
part of the email is downloaded and there is some standard text and a
link in the email that, when clicked on, retrieves the rest of the
mail. This would work as long as it downloads at least all of the
text... which it does not do in Thunderbird...

This is something i really miss in Evo! Am I the only one?!

So (for now) Thunderbird is my only option. Please, would it be
possible to add this feature in Evo in (one of) the next release(s)?

Re: [Evolution] Importing mail settings from previous version of Evolution

Thanks for your response - no, I haven't tried exporting to another

export/import between two versions of Evolution. I've tried using the
Import Assistant in Evolution 2.0.2 but it says No settings found.
Evolution should open up import wizard on first-run, to import
settings/data from older evolution . Did this happen ?

I don't want to have to 'reinvent the wheel' by using all sorts of
command line stuff - I just need some clear instruction as to how to set
up the two versions of Evolution so that the Import Assistant will work!

Reset gnome settings from a virtual console ( make sure, you have not
logged into gui) , and re-run evolution

$ mkdir gnome_old
$ mv .gconf* .gnome* gnome_old

Log back into gui, and run evolution . This should start up evolution's
import wizard assuming evolution directory has not yet been
moved/removed to .evolution;

Final option, importing mailbox individually or try copying the folder
from older evolution to .evolution .

Attach all the emails into one mail, and send it ?

Alternatively, you can copy all of the emails into one folder, zip and
mail the folder. This folder can be imported by outlook ( outlook
supports mbox import )

Running evolution 2.10.1 on Ubuntu Feisty. By the way, I get nothing

I had a ton of email in my Outlook folders that I wanted to import

convert to some other, supported email program and then convert from
 there to Evolution.

So, I converted all my email from Outlook to Netscape (which sucks),
and from there attempted to convert to Evolution. Two problems
 emerged:

 1) Evolution did not recognize my Netscape email at all. Hence, it
did not suck in all my NS email. I don't know why - it's in the right
 places.

 2) I tried to import all my email one folder at a time. That worked
up to a point: NS uses compressed files to contain some of my email,
and Evolution did not recognize those at all.

When I went from CentOS 4.4 to 5.0 (Gnome 2.16.0) I hoped this would
be fixed but alas, no such luck

So, how do I get those (gobs of) compressed email messages into Evolution?

Not sure, but does Thunderbird support importing mail from Netscape ?
If yes, you could try in 3stages Netscape-Thunderbird-Evolution ( the
last stag is optional ).

I had used this method for MS outlook ( pst files ) - Thunderbird
( windows )sd - Evolution .

 Two quick questions:

 1. I live in a rural area that still only has dial-up modem access. I
sometimes need to dial up from one or another account, and so like to
have three different dialer icons set up on my desktop, one for each
account. Is this possible with Gnome PPP? If so, how do you do it?
Alternatively, you should be able to add three different enteries to
Network Manager applet as - Connect to X, Conn .. Y, and Conn .. Z .

 2. Is it possible to keep separate evolution applications for each
e-mail account? That is, to open a separate evolution program with a
separate in-box for each e-mail account? With all separate folders for
each e-mail account? Or does one have to receive mail from all one's
various e-mail accounts into the same in-box, in the same application?
For example, can one have 4 different versions of evolution open at the
same time, each dealing with a separate e-mail account?
I would suggest using Thunderbid, or Opera M2 mail client for this case.

Evolution allows for multiple window, and needs filter to sort out mails
between multiple accounts .

Yes, but you would have to do it manually, or using a filter. Evolution
is not comparable with outlook in this regard.

On a additional note, i believe evolution seems to slow down with a
folder greater than 1gig in size, afaik.

I think that version of evolution (2.0.2) that I use have this problems:
 - Virtual folders do not scan all folders, for example searching for
important, or to do later classified mail.

Odd, what is the vfolder rule being used ?
Under Search folder sources is all active folders selected ?

If this is indeed a bug, file it with centos/rhel .

 - Storage of old mail is not automatic.
sorry, i really did not understand this.

 - Mail is stored in the same folder of evolution configuration, I think
that mail folder should be in HOME/mail or something like this, to
 backup purposes.
stored under $HOME/.evolution/

 - Evolution seems to have problems using local copy of IMAP when IMAP
 server is inaccesible.
Right click on imap folder, and check if Offline mode is enabled .

notification either. I enabled a sound when I get email but (a)

What do others do for email notifications? Surely there must be
some solution to this! They've been around forever and are quite
 useful.

  2) I've been classifying mail as Junk and when I do it disappears
from my inbox. However, it's not really gone; Evo is just hiding
it. I understand this is how it's supposed to work, which is
fine. However, the junk mail also doesn't appear in the Junk or
Junk E-Mail etc. folders; in fact I can't find it anywhere in
Evo. If I go back to Outlook Web Access, I still see all those
messages in my inbox. This bad in many ways.

ideas why I can't find my junk mail through Evo?
