Re: [Evolution] Potential Issue casued by Update
Interestingly I found I was having the same exact issue with my Ubuntu 22.01.1 on the generic 5.15 on my daily driver (my Home laptop is running Pop OS 22.04.1 with the latest 5.19 kernel). On my Ubuntu machine Evolution not longer showed up as an option in Default Applications. I completely removed the Evolution flatpak then tried to install it from Apt (sudo apt install evolution-ews) and still no dice on mailto or even showing up in the Default Application setting. I removed the apt and then installed again with $ sudo apt install evolution but again no dice. I then decided to bite the bullet and install Evolution from Ubuntu Software (version 3.44.1-0ubuntu1 ), which I try to avoid, and boom! It shows up in my Default Applications and now Mailto links work perfectly. I am not as crazy about the look of the Snap version but I am functional now so I will mess with my Pop OS laptop to troubleshoot but I am thinking whatever recent update both my devices have in common borked something. -Original Message- From: Pete Biggs To: evolution-list@gnome.org Subject: Re: [Evolution] Potential Issue casued by Update Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2022 16:10:50 +0100 > > And when clicking a MailTo link I get this Chrome output when > Evolution is the default: > > gpg-agent[6]: directory '/home/michael/.gnupg' created > gpg-agent[6]: directory '/home/michael/.gnupg/private-keys-v1.d' > created > gpg-agent: a gpg-agent is already running - not starting a new one > Gtk-Message: 09:20:39.393: Failed to load module "appmenu-gtk-module" > Failed to initialize gtk+: Cannot open display: If it can't open the display, then that is a fairly serious things - there's no way that Evolution can start if it can't do that. Re: [Evolution] Potential Issue casued by Update
I have confirmed MailTo from Chrome works on Evolution 3.44.1-0ubuntu1 installed from Ubuntu Software on my daily driver. It does not work on Evolution Flatpak 3.44.4 on Chrome on any of my systems. I am going to try a brand new install of a non Ubuntu based distro like Fedora on my test device. -Original Message- From: Michael via evolution-list Reply-To: michaeljke...@outlook.com To: evolution-list@gnome.org Subject: Re: [Evolution] Potential Issue casued by Update Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2022 11:53:48 -0500 Interestingly I found I was having the same exact issue with my Ubuntu 22.01.1 on the generic 5.15 on my daily driver (my Home laptop is running Pop OS 22.04.1 with the latest 5.19 kernel). Hi, try to run both the Evolution and the Chrome from a terminal, to see whether it prints anything there. It's possible to "roll back" to the previous versions on the Flathub.org, if needed. I do not recall any specific change in the Evolution itself in the URI handling in the whole 3.44.x series, thus it can be something else, especially if the other apps can execute the mailto: URIs properly. Maybe also from the command line: $ xdg-open mailto:user@no.where Maybe the Chrome encodes the link somehow, which prevents Evolution to decode it, which may or may not be visible on the Evolution's console in a form of a runtime warning. I do not know how Chrome, I do not use it, but at least Firefox has Edit->Settings->Applications and when I search there for the "mailto" (quotes for clarity only), then it lets me choose the app to use, with indicated default, which is (possibly) taken from the system. Mine says "org.gnome.Evolution.desktop". That is, as far as I know, how Chrome handles Mailto: links. Does chrome give any error messages or do something else when you try a mailto: link? BTW, there's lots of things on the web about chrome being difficult about mailto: links if it is in an iframe or or it's an image or whatever. Try a different link, such as this w3schools one: https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3schools.com%2FHtml%2Ftryit.asp%3Ffilename%3Dtryhtml_mailto2data=05%7C01%7C%7C79a19df443364196486f08da848ca83b%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C637968036905868811%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7Csdata=qBd9amn3rYLmIdcKiJriH6nxcp8Atb8fzvXs7sHwDJU%3Dreserved=0 P. ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmail.gnome.org%2Fmailman%2Flistinfo%2Fevolution-listdata=05%7C01%7C%7C79a19df443364196486f08da848ca83b%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C637968036905868811%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7Csdata=A1GwdSyA5VZ%2FtDQAz4LDCNDtB%2BbPfAZpweatUamFJak%3Dreserved=0 ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

I removed it (in fact them, as there were several) and installed the system one as default. poc ___ evolution-list mailing list evolution-list@gnome.org To change your list options or unsubscribe, visit ... https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list

[Evolution] Potential Issue casued by Update
My Flatpak of Evolution updated today and now my Mailto is not working from Chrome Version 104.0.5112.101 (.deb). Chrome is set as my default in Pop OS 22.04.1 and it worked as recently as last night. I changed my default email handler to Geary in POP OS and Mailto works fine in Chrome and Firefox. When changing default email to back to Evolution Mailto does not work from Chrome but does work from Firefox and any other browser I have tried. I have completely removed Chrome and everything relating to chrome and readded but clicking on a MailTo link in Chrome with Evolution as the default handler does nothing. Any troubleshooting tips are welcome.
