[expert] ipsec.o and GCC versions ?
Hi Folks, just tried to use freeswan - to connect the 2 computers through the Wifi Network I have over here. However - without forcing an Insmode - I can't get the ipsec module to load. Re: [expert] Make xconfig doesn't work in new kernel
This patch fixes it: (I posted them on qa at 2003-06-18) http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/attachment.cgi?id=516action=view - changes incorrect define_mbool = define_bool and while you are at it ... get theese two also: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/attachment.cgi?id=517action=view - removes menu duplicate (if ... fi) from drivers/char/drm/Config.in http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/attachment.cgi?id=518action=view - remove duplicate 'source sound/usb/Config.in' in file sound/Config.in Regards Thomas I solved the problem by installing the tk/tcl rpm packages and xconfig works. Maybe this should be a dependency for the kernel source? This is for the standard kernel that comes with 9.1 (2.4.21-0.13mdk I think...). I've got the splash screen up and running (I left out initrd support) but am pretty stumped by my power problem. Using the standard kernel, on the command halt the computer shuts down and powers down. ACPI is disabled in the bios and doesn't effect this behaviour (due to the fact acpi doesn't work for my via chipset appollo 133 and 686a southbridge) it still powers down. However in my beautfiul new optimised slimmed down kernel (its been on the atkins diet) everything works apart from the computer powering down. I even hear the HD spin down, but no power off. It is obviously a missing module in the kernel, but I haven't touched the standard advanced power management options (turned off acpi support, also tried with it on, and still no effect.). Under one kernel it works, under the other it doesn't. Any clues you can give me for other modules required to allow apm to turn off the computer? I can post the .config file as an email attachment if you so wish. Cheers Huw Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

[expert] Connection sharing and 2 Nics ?
Hiya, I have Internet connection sharing set up for my windows PC's and have recently brought Xbox live, now if i use a dediacated cat5 lead to the mandrake box it works fine (after editing shorewall rules to allow ports) however as I am cheap and have had the same network in place for years my home PC network is coax and therefore I cant use this with my Xbox. TTBOMK, you need for the partition to be unmounted when you do this. Since it's your root filesystem, perhaps the best way to accomplish this is to boot to the rescue system on MDK CD #1 (by hitting F1 at the first splash screen, then typing rescue at the prompt), then choosing Go to console at the ensuing menu, and running this command from there. Be aware that the true cause of the filesystem failing those periodic checks has not yet been determined, and could well be due to one or more of any number of factors, such as bad disks, bad or poorly connected cabling, memory that is failing, or something else entirely. While this may mask the symptoms of that problem, it doesn't really solve it. -- Bill Mullen [EMAIL PROTECTED] MA, USA RLU #270075 MDK 8.1 9.0 There are two kinds of people in the world, those who believe there are two kinds of people in the world and those who don't. - Robert Benchley Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? this is a situation that the GUI builders didn't have resources to account for, so the GUI doesn't help you do it. However, it's perfectly do-able from the command line. It sounds like you've already got the card working, so I'll skip that part. Then go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and setup scripts for eth2, copying eth1's for guidance. Then edit /etc/dhcpd.conf and add the interface and range. Then edit the files in /etc/shorewall/ and make sure the new subnet can route xbox's traffic out. RE: [expert] Connection sharing and 2 Nics ?
well there are two easy answers here.. One I think someone has already mentioned.. have a 10base2 (coax) card and a 10/100baseT (cat5) card in the linux box and use /etc/sysconfig/static-routes to route between them.. (or just set them to the same subnet.) or go and backup an old 10baseT hub.. most of them had a coax connector on the back for just this purpose.. (ebay would be a good place to start and you should be able to pick one up for only a couple of dollars.) a third answer is to just get a 10 dollar cat5 card and some cable and throw out the coax,, its slow, it was never friendly. (I used to spend alot of time looking for bad terminators and stuff on peoples networks). regards Franki http://htmlfixit.com -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Jim C Sent: Sunday, 20 July 2003 2:21 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] Connection sharing and 2 Nics ? HIya, Thanks for the detailed replys, I m just about to start on this and hopefully it wnt keep me up all night. As to replacing the network ect... I agree that would be the ideal option, however I am just about to start moving house so cash is tight at the moment, so originally i did plan to buy a load of new cards and a hub and eplace the whole thing, however with plans changing its really not a option at the moment, however it will happen in the (hopefully) not to distant future. my network configuration was mentioned, and as I hope to only be doing this once and I dont want to make a complete mess of it, Could I ask for anyones advice on what they would consider the best way to configure this ? I know Internet connections haring as default sets eth0 to IP = 192.168.1.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0 and s of yet i have been playing about with eth1 on 10.10.1.1 with the same subnet, hopeing in vein to be able to manually set up the xbox with a statiuc ip (10.10.1.2) and being able to route it using 10.10.1.1 as a gateway, but it didnt work. I am going to look at whats been sugested, and hopefully it will work, but if there is a optimal setting for this or a setting you would reccomend for the network cards it would be a great help. So i thought it would be easier and cheaper to just add another nic to the linux server and use hat to server for Xbox live. now my question is, when i set up internet connections sharing in mandrake it only allows me to select one nic for usevia (i presume) the dhcp server, and I need both (or a workaround as i can manually set ip's on the xbox) to get this to work, Any help would be apreciated, i changed from a 2k server to this a few months ago and have been happy so far, I would know how to do this in 2k server, but in linux I am stuck, so if anyone can tell me how to get the second nic to work with internet connection sharing (or even better the dhcp server to work also with it) I would be in debt to you. __ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [expert] well I'm back again
Well, had some installation headaches in 9.1 but I managed to get some good help from James Sparenburg (hi James!). I'm running off of 9.1 and urpmi'ing a whole bunch of stuff. Anyway my real question now is k3b. The older k3b in 9.0 wasn't too terribly functional. (I have tried gcombust with some success.) For now k3b in 9.1 seems better, but still I am missing a number of recommended programs - things like transcode, tccat, tcdecode, stuff like that. I tried urpmi on them, no lock, none of the packages show up (except for normalize, which is installed). I'm still attempting to make a music cd from a number of MP3s, but that's not working as well as I'd hoped. Singles seem fine; I burned a couple last night, using mpg123. I think my trouble is in getting mpg123 working inside a shell loop. I had converted a number of mp3s to what I thought were wav's but gcombust/cdrecord won't recognize them as such. That was with the stuff in 9.0, maybe things are better in 9.1. -- David E. Hi There, I would just make shure both network cards work, define a bridged interface that will bridge both NIC's together. The only thing you'll have to take care of is that instead of ethX you'll have brX. Use the bridge-utils for that purpose. Pretty easy to install - once you understood the logic behind it.
