In a sense it's already there. When the first Lilo screen comes up hit
the escape key and type linux 3 this will boot linux to runlevel 3
(text only) and then you can make the adjustments via good old vi. Not
sure exactly on Grub what to do... Don't use grub.

grub does the exact same thing as lilo...

Grub does things that LILO does not. :) Trust me I found out the other day.
For instance, on a SAN if you want, you can shift devices down so that it
will ignore the first unbootable/unmodifiable partiton.

Did so againso fresh install, saved the home partition all well
and how doi put entries back on the menus, I also lost mozilla1.4 after
using it.

put a icon on the toolbar OK , but how to put it back on the menu

Ans I still have input sound probs, apart from that no other complaints

Hi James
well in a way I'm glad it was'nt my imagination.

What screwed me up was he had autologin set, so once X started It had
gone past the point of no return..
OK , I should have used the 1st cd as a rescue disk, and got into his
home dir and deleted all .gnome* files.
To be honest this autologin feature is a pain and should be removed.
If you are forced to login there is a chance to get into a console
before all hell breaks loose, as once it starts you have no keyboard and
no mouse.. just the power switch.
Also just to make the matter worse, the sound card and NIC sat on the
same interrupt, so no network access..

But the good thing is Alsa drivers and module for the intel x810 works..

Maybe someone could create a RPM to download as an upgrade to disable
autologin, if it was done when the system is loaded, the user would
never know

Well thats my thoughts on the matter
