salyavin, separation of church and state is an idea that some countries aim for. imo I think that's because most religions have become corrupted. But then again, so have most governments! hmmm, how come two negatives don't make a positive in this case?! Re: [FairfieldLife] Creationists thwart mammoth bid!
Evidently some of the Anglicans aren't sure if England actually IS a Christian country: 27 April 2014 Last updated at 10:36 ET Britain is a 'post-Christian' country says former Archbishop Britain is now a post-Christian country, the former Archbishop of Canterbury has said. Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Rowan Williams said Britain was not a nation of believers and that the era of widespread worship was over. It comes after Prime Minister David Cameron said people in Britain should be confident of its status as a Christian country. Deputy PM Nick Clegg said the Church and state should be separated. Writing in the Church Times, Mr Cameron said Christians made a difference to people's lives and should be more evangelical about it. This prompted a group of 50 public figures to write a letter insisting that the UK was a non-religious and plural society and that to claim otherwise fostered alienation and division. 'Committed believers' Lord Williams, who retired from being the leader of the Church of England in 2012, said: If I say that this is a post-Christian nation, that doesn't mean necessarily non-Christian. It means the cultural memory is still quite strongly Christian. He added: But [Britain is] post-Christian in the sense that habitual practice for most of the population is not taken for granted. A Christian nation can sound like a nation of committed believers and we are not that. Equally, we are not a nation of dedicated secularists. It's a matter of defining terms. A Christian country as a nation of believers? No. A Christian country in the sense of still being very much saturated by this vision of the world and shaped by it? Yes. The current Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, has supported Mr Cameron. On his blog he wrote it was a historical fact (perhaps unwelcome to some, but true) that UK law, ethics and culture were based on its teachings and traditions. Come on down here and you'll see - some of those folk like the feller that was mentioned who was in the wedding with his pistol behind his back don't know nuthin' about the Anglican Church, but were you to mention it to folks like what there are around here, they would treat the idea of it with a good deal of suspicion. Hell, in these parts Protestants don't even consider Catholics real and proper Christians and I ain't kiddin. I also know some folk here in SC who are members of independent churches and they don't consider anyone outside their own church to be real Christians. Re: [FairfieldLife] Creationists thwart mammoth bid!
Actually, Episcopalianism (Anglicanism) is Protestant. But it looks too Catholic for some fundamentalists and other Protestants to be comfortable with it. My parents both came from long lines of Presbyterians. Although they weren't at all religious, they were scandalized when my father's brother converted to Episcopalianism. If I remember correctly, my uncle's second wife was Catholic. For him to convert to Catholicism would have been just too much given the family heritage, so they compromised on Episcopalianism. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, mjackson74@... wrote : Come on down here and you'll see - some of those folk like the feller that was mentioned who was in the wedding with his pistol behind his back don't know nuthin' about the Anglican Church, but were you to mention it to folks like what there are around here, they would treat the idea of it with a good deal of suspicion. Hell, in these parts Protestants don't even consider Catholics real and proper Christians and I ain't kiddin. I also know some folk here in SC who are members of independent churches and they don't consider anyone outside their own church to be real Christians.

Who could not like Joel Osteen. Really, a good practical message, especially when he stays outside the overtly religious context, and talks about the daily issues people face. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, punditster@... wrote : On 4/26/2014 12:23 PM, Michael Jackson wrote: in these parts Protestants don't even consider Catholics real and proper Christians Joel Scott Osteen is the Senior Pastor of the Lakewood Church, the largest Protestant church in the United States, in Houston, Texas. God Almighty, that is just the tip of the iceberg here in South Carolina - you ought to see what the politicians get up to around here!
