Yeah I like the full rounded scrollbars better as well... I'll try out
your suggestion for the arrows :-)

Btw. How's the progress on your sketches? I blogged [1] yesterday about
the three styles, but one of the png images you posted on flickr is not
available today. Can you send me latest SVG(Z)? I'll generate and
publish the PNG myself ;-)

Thanks,
Martin

 Hi,

I've just finished my Widget Factory mock-up for the MODERN style in
Nodoka 0.8.x. I also updated The Widget Factory mock-up for the CLASSIC
style. I'll probably make the updates also within the 0.7.x branch so
that Fedora 10 will also have some refreshments. Now the only missing
one is the GLASSY one. Andy is working on it and I am looking forward to
the finished work. You can check all the designs at the usual place [1]
(SVGs are available at the bottom of the page), I also attach the MODERN
 Widget Factory mock-up here.

I did various improvements from the previous sketches, but I am still
not fully content with the scrollbar design and the arrows design. Any
 ideas?

 Comments, suggestions, ... welcome :-)

 Thanks,
 Martin

PS: Final version (the real one) will probably make use of brighter
colours, but as I played with the current sketches in inkscape, it
somehow ended with those present in the mock-up :-D

Re: [Nodoka GTK2 Engine] Gathering ideas for next release - wiki is up

2008-07-30 Thread Martin Sourada
Okay, back from vacation, I did some more work on the sketching and
other preparation work. I added Scale and Scrollbar designs and
started writing documentation [1], currently it contains only the
proposed engine options. Please note that I'll most likely enable three
different styles in Nodoka - CLASSIC (mostly how it looks now), MODERN
(more or less what is in the sketches) and GLOSSY (more or less what
Andy is sketching now).

I also updated the wiki page [2] and when Andy finishes his widget
factory mockup I'll add it there as well :)

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Martin

 Hi,

I am thinking about improving the nodoka gtk engine looks in the next
release and adding some configuration options. Therefore I am asking
here, if you have ideas, requests, ... what I might implement. Today I
started sketching new nodoka gradient (used in e.g. buttons), which is
basically an evolvement of the current one which will be available as a
configuration option. Next things on the schedule are:

  * improvement of the check/radio button design
  * improvement of various arrows used in nodoka (e.g. in scrollbars,
 menus or drop-down menus)
 * improvement of handles design (I am satisfied neither with the circles
 nor stripes)
  * improvement of design of combo of entries with buttons (combo box
 entries, spin buttons, ...)
  * improvement of progress bar design (I see there a possibility for
usage of various designs, with a configuration option to choose)
  * improvement of focus rings design (it's part of some of the above
 tasks as well)
  * possibly add some gradient to panel (I am still not sure, how to do
 it right)

As you can see it's rather a lot of work, and thus there is a
possibility it will not be in Fedora 10, though certainly I make it in
 time for Fedora 11 (I promise :-p).

And why I am writing this? Partly to write what I have in mind, but
mostly because I need your cooperation. So far I have in mind few ideas
how to achieve the above tasks, but I'd like to hear your ideas as well
 - after all, Fedora Artwork is not done by one, but by many people, and
this is one of the vital parts of the Fedora Artwork.

I attach the first button redesign sketch ;-)

Once I gather enough ideas I'll put them on wiki, so everyone could see
and comment on the official next version design ;-)

Comments welcome, tear me to pieces :-D

 Thanks,
 Martin

PS: I'll most likely be the one doing the coding, but feel free to
suggest whatever you have in mind, as long as there are no colour
jumps (the glass effects present e.g. in Murrine). I'd like Nodoka to
be built up mostly on using gradients and simple shadows and it would be
great if it was different from the other engines not only by it's
configurability but also by it's looks.

Looking good so far.
Any news on the input field bug? can you fix that in nodoka? or still
no investigation done? ^_^

Yup, it is a radical change, now they look really themed (worth talking
about it as a feature).

Probably yes. Considering that the Feature freeze for F10 is nearing and
I haven't finished yet with the sketching, I'll push it for Fedora 11,
while in Fedora 10 we'll have new notification theme [1], maybe the Echo
icons and some minor improvements to the gtk theme/engine.

Also, as the number of my sketches is increasing, I've prepared a wiki
page [2] to keep them together with other information regarding the
0.8.x branch of gtk-nodoka-engine.

Suggestions and comments welcome :-)

Thanks,
Martin
