F10-F11 kernels versions
Hi All, Today I did an upgrade (F10-F11) on one of my Pentium IV machines. In F10 is was running a xxx.i686 kernel. After the upgrade it is running a xxx.i586 kernel. Why? I thought that it shold install the PAE-kernel by default As a side effect the kernel-devel package was not set to be updated (installed versions of x.f10.i686 seems to be prefered abovee x.fc11.i586) Mannually deinstalling the obsolete F10 pacakges and installing the F11 version solved the problem. Is there someone out with a working Eduroam connection on F10, who can help me configuring the machine? eduroam in my university is WPA2/AES, EAP-TTLS+PAP. With this and NetworkManager connect to eduroam is very simple (I translate GUI from spanish and may not be very accurate) . Right click in NetworkManager applet. . Click on Edit connections. . Click on Wireless tab. . Click on Add. . Fill in SSID with eduroam. . Click on Wireless Security tab. . Select WPA/WPA2 Enterprise from security list. . Select Tunneled TLS from Authentication list. . Fill in Anonymous identity with anonym...@tudelft.nl. . In CA Certificate select the file with the root certificate of the CA that sign the certificate of tudelft.nl radius server. . Select PAP from Inner Authentication. . Fill in Username and Password. . Accept. Ok, I can do this. If I remember correctly this was the configuration I created half a year back. I did exactly the above, but when trying to connect A window pops up title of window : wireless Network autentication required It looks similar to the menu under the Wireless Security tab. But I have proved that the problem is triggered when xmodmap is run. If I run it to remap just one key it appears my keyboard layout is corrupted and worst of all remapping the RH Windows key [#116] to the degree° symbol renders the down cursor key [#104] useless, it becomes a degree key in addition to 116? This is only a problem on the F-10 computer. These are changes I have made routinely in every version of Fedora! I will put off upgrading this F-9 computer for a while since that problem precludes such things as disabling the Caps Lock key and I am a lousy typist. Bob This morning I tried booting the computer from the F-9 Live Gnome CD and things appear to work normally after I enter /usr/bin/xmodmap -e 'keycode 116=degree' The Windows key to the right of the right hand ALT key now produces a ° [degree] symbol while the cursor down arrow key still functions normally. It would be informative if someone else running F-10 would try duplicating my problem by entering: /usr/bin/xmodmap -e 'keycode 116=degree' and see if they get the degree symbol and if the down arrow still works normally? The F-10 in question was installed from the live CD but I would not expect that to make any difference. Thanks. Bob I found many problems on F10 when using xmodmap. I'm not sure if xmodmap is to blame or changed keycodes. If I run xkeycaps and press keys I see for some keys the wrong keys highlighted. The right-Alt is one of the problem keys. However with xkeycaps you can find out the new keycode and addapt the .xmodmap file or xmodmap command to it. Saving a .xmodmap file from xkeycaps will give problems. key mapping problem
Hi all, I upgraded my Acer-Aspire-1700 Laptop from F9-F10 After that I got problems with the key-mapping I use xmodmap to redefine some keys. This worked perfectly in F9 but after the upgrade some keys (i.e. left_arrow) is not working, when typed on the laptop's own keyboard. On a attached USB-keyboard everything is fine. Removing the xmodmap-table make at least the arrow keys work again. If I check with the program xkeycaps which keycodes are generated I see that on the laptops-keyboard the left_arrow generates code 71 instead of 64, which explains why xmodmap fails because keycode 71 (right-ctrl) is redefined. Hi all, Not all of my favourite internet-radio stations play after an upgrade from F8-F9. I point fire fox to i.e. the following web-pages with varying results. In both cases the gecko-mplayer is suposed to be working http://www.dr.dk/netradio/metafiler/asx/DR_Klassisk_32.asx Result : perfect sound http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/ram/r3g2.ram Result : silence (I can see in the firefox window the knobs of mplayer) What could be the problem? If they are installed at the standard location. Actually this is an system which upgraded from F8-F9. When running F8 the web-page above just worked. I checked and all installed gstreamer-packages are now at F9-level. Or should I install additional packages to get the codecs?
