Welcome to the list. I hope your original cats test negative, but it sounds
like Ash is in good shape. If he's made it over a year his chances of getting
sick are much less!

year (I've had him since birth). He's blind in one eye and has developmental
problems in his back area, but other than the obvious (his illness), he's a
very happy, content, sweet and playful boy! Very talkative as well, especially
in the morning! He's all black with tiny white hairs throughout his coat that
you need to really look to see. He eats like a pig and right now, seems
healthy. He's getting fixed in a month (that's the soonest my vet could get
him in) and my other two cats are being tested for FeLV in two weeks and if
they test negative (which I really hope is the case), they're getting
vaccinated. My oldest, Morrison, was supposedly vaccinated two years ago, but
they have no record of it at my vet's office, though they told me
he was vaccinated when I took him for his shots two years ago.

I am looking forward to chatting with you all and I really wish all the best
for you and your kitties!

Hello everyone - Last Friday when Buzz sick I had to settle for one of the vets
who works in the practice to check him because the husband and wife team I

was no hope for him. She gave him a cortizone shot and sent him home saying to
give a call when it was time to euthanize. Thanks to the advise of some of the
people on this list I called back and demanded Dolycycline.
Yesterday Dr. Tom was back. I had Buzzy re-tested in the morning (his level had
gone from 8 to 11) and had a conference with Dr. Tom at 5:00 yesterday. He
spent an hour talking with me about all the possible options and explaining how
each one worked and what the benefits and drawbacks were of each plan. He was
very happy that Buzz was on Doxycycline. When I left the office he had promised
to look into some of the options and get back to me. Two hours later I received
a call from him. He had spent all that time researching some of the options we
had talked about, including prednisone, and Epogen, B vitamins and Niacinamide.
Now Buzz is still on the Doxycycline and has started with prednisone. Dr. Tom
is going to order the Epogen and find out about the availability of Niacinamide.
It is so great to have such a wonderful person and doctor available who cares
so much and takes the time to explain things. The only thing I can't figure out
is why he keeps that other vet in his practice.
This morning Buzz was still pretty tired but he ate a lot of the tuna I mixed
up for him with the multi-vitamin in it. My mother-in-law lives with us and she
will continue to offer him food every couple of hours until I get home from
work to spoil him. Every evening we have been going out on the deck where I
cuddle him and give him Reiki treatments. Even if things don't work out, now I
know that at least he is getting a fighting chance.

and by this time, the other two have been well exposed, and it''s sort of a
moot point--the odds are very high that they'll be negative, and if not,
will it make a huge difference, other than in the way you treat them
medically? will you love them differently? i doubt that you will--it'll just
give you information on what things to look for.

FeLV+ cats are just cats, until and if the virus is activated. good food,
good love, as stressfree an environment as possible--these are the things we
know of that can help keep that from happening. look into the supplements
that are well researched and documented, FeLVs get sick just as normal cats
do, and get treated and get well, without it always having to have to be
related to the FeLV--just breathe, and learn, and enjoy every minute you
have with all of them: no living thing comes with a guarantee, after all.

I hope everyone who can will post photos. It is great to put
a name with a face.
I posted photos of my Felv positive MeMe to encourage anyone
who is discouraged with a diagnosis.
MeMe was highly symptomatic (severe diarrhea, runny nose, constant
sneezing,
giardia, stomatitis, swollen glands, no appetite). With the help of
both an
allopathic and homeopathic vet , she is symptom free and living a
great life.

She must have been an outdoor kittie because as soon as she started
to feel
well, she began crying to go out. She was relentless. Someone on the
list recommended
a cat jacket and it has been a life saver. She spends much of the day
outside with her
jacket and retractable leash, just hangin'. She has also learned to
walk on it and often
goes for walks with the dogs.

When she has escaped, she has headed for the nearest tree and she can
climbs as fast
and as confidently as a squirrel.

I've posted a few photos of the 'flying Walinda' in tree tops and I
will post pictures
of the cat jacket, should anyone have a cat who 'must' be out.

Thanks again Belinda for creating this site. It is so much fun.

   Hi Jennifer,
I have created a photo album for anyone who would like to post their
kitties, positive or otherwise for all us to see.

Just send me your photos in an email/s or if you know how to zip them
you can do that. I will put them in your own album. Let me know what
you would like your album name to be, try to keep it 5 words or less.
 The album is here:

Belinda, Bailey is adorable.  Of course all your kitties are precious.  Thanks

[Felvtalk] Bring MM in the house

2008-07-31 Thread April and Jay
Hello! Tomorrow we are going to bring our FIV+ cat MM into our house. He is
staying in our camper right now. We are going to keep him in a bedroom for a
few weeks before we introduce him to our FIv- crew. Is there any tips, advice
etc. anyone can give me? Thanks!
April

Re: [Felvtalk] Bring MM in the house

2008-07-31 Thread Marylyn
I really believe in using Feliway spray and Rescue Remedy when
introducing/calming cats. Spray the area where they are and where
they will be and put the RR in the water of all cats involved (and
consider taking some yourself). Put washcloths, towels other such
stuff that the cats have been on (petted with, slept on etc) with the
other cat/cats so they can get used to the odors. I am introducing
two kittensthe new guy is spending a lot of time in a very large
carrier where the other one can play with him and they can smell each
other, talk to each other etc. Maybe you can figure out something
simularmaybe a screen door?? And have a safe place for the FIV+
to stay after brief visits with the regular crewmeeting and
greeting can be exhausting and can go sour quickly. None of them
(again, including you) need that kind of stress.

Good luck. It will work.

New thought: Are they going to be using the same litter box? If so,
try putting some of MM's leavings in the others' box and visa
versa. Not a lot but just enough over a period of time to let them
adjust.
